i doubt that the gore from the original will be topped. for a pg-13 movie, this was pretty nasty. nothing like today's watered down pg-13 crap. but horror doesn't need to rely on gore. if they did it right, it can be a scary movie. we'll see.

I think this film is kinda like an equivalent to remasters of some videogames: More shiny lights, more defined screen textures, but most of the original spirit just not present.

I could be wrong, who knows, it might be a simple Sunday entertainment if not compared, or just ignoring it's a remake, so that wouldn't be horrible.

As for the score, it's nice. Nothing groundbreaking, nor classic like Goldsmith (like any score could reach that status ever) but it's nice, nothing more than I expected. So thanks.

As expected, there is nothing either dramatically stirring or musically noteworthy about this score which might compel me to revisit it again, unlike a certain 1982 version.

As much as I would like to sample this, nothing can replace Goldsmith's original score in my mind so I'm not setting myself up for disappointment by getting it in my head that this is even going to compare. I caught the full film and became captivated by its score in the early 2000s and to this day no score can touch its beauty and level of Gothic horror. Thanks for sharing though.

So Streitenfeld "remaking" another Goldsmith classic... and I for one really love Jerry's Poltergeist score. Well it can't be said Marc lacks balls... Thanks ostgems for the chance to do a comparison.

I love Goldsmith's as well. The first cue, "Poltergeist Opening" is a disappointment. I thought it was going to contain the original theme as it starts out kinda sounding like it. But it never does and it doesn't go anywhere :/

I'm actually enjoying this score. It goes in a direction that differs from Goldsmith's masterpiece, but it's still good, in my opinion. I hate the front cover, though... Sony should definitely hire a new designer right away!

Thank you very much ostgems for sharing this! This is not that bad. You can definitely identify Mr. Streitenfeld's style in the way he uses strings and brass (reminiscent of “Prometheus”). I even detect some similarities with the Elliot Goldenthal of “Alien 3”, especially in track 19 “Let Her Go”.

Thanks to ostgems... the following is posted unrelated to the poster's posted effort... post. Just my dumb op'ed, because I have a stick up my where you'd have to look.

The three note theme must be the most annoying part of the soundtrack. Like a door-bell. And most is strung around these three notes, like new-age music, nothing memorable.

Angry Spirits includes Inception horn hand-me-downs. The sharp (orchestra) hits in Clown Attack are unimpressive, not even the dissonance adds to the excitement. It's thrown in together with screeching violins and hyperactive flutes and some banging beat, at unpredictable times - there is a lot of anticipation, without much if any delivery from there on. Home Improvements has a howling ghost sound, for what I hope makes sense in context (I believe it's the only occurance). I am sure this goes well with the scares of the movie.
There's an intriguing moment in Into the Closet, builds up until 1:35 with a nice slow and heavy conclusion - just to be ruined at 1:53 with a loud hit. I Feel a Little Braver and Reunited are probably the cleanest, harmonic tracks. Let Her Go is the most symphonic and complex, features which this score otherwise lacks.

I'd describe it half a soundtrack, half trash-compactor and kitchen utensils.
The soundtrack is predictable after a while: If it gets quiet, prepare for unreasonable, loud noise in 3-2-1.
Similar to the Evil Dead (2013) soundtrack (the one with the yowling duck sirene).

Goldsmith's score had hectic moments, had brilliant moments, it's a mix that generally blends nicely from emotional scene to another.
This however seems phoned in. From trailer to soundtrack cover, and I expect less from the actual movie. Look, ouuh, scary clown in commercial smash-zoom, BAMMM!!, screech, pause for that one trailer line we want you to remember...

Now,now don't be so mean! Mr. Streitenfeld is not really a composer he was Ridley Scott's Audio Engineer on alot of his films, then scored them as well.
Give the young man a chance.
No I know nobody will every be able to re-score or top Goldsmith's Original.
It's like Goldsmith or Goldenthal trying to re-record their ALIEN scores. Can't be done, not even by them.
Hollywood needs new ideas, and stop making remakes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh sorry thanks for the post! LOL
