I tried posting this on an old thread but it told me to start a new thread, so I'm reviving it.

What's your best and worst non FF games made by Squaresoft or Square Enix. It can be on any console.

Best non FF game: Kingdom hearts, only because it had FF characters in it...
Worst non FF game: Unlimited saga. Has anyone played that game? I bought it on PS2 (I don't know if it was on a previous console, but I'm guessing so with the graphics of it). The manual that came with it made no sense at all, gameplay is impossible, etc.

Best non FF game: Vagrant Story. An excellent story and game design that was ahead of its time - i'm just thankful that it actually got released in Europe. Maybe they did because it was 'medieval stuff'.

Worst non FF game: Thankfully, I cancelled my preorder on Unlimited SAGA due to some very sound advice, so the honours would have to go to Mystic Quest. The most boring pile of tripe i've ever had to endure.

EDIT: In Australia / Europe, Mystic Quest wasn't called 'Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest', so thankfully, not part of the FF series.

Hooray!

best: Xenogears
worst: Threads of Fate, good up until a certain point where it became incredibly impossible. I can't believe I suck that bad at videogames for it to be that difficult unless it was the game itself.

Best: Chrono Trigger on the SNES. An absolute classic, and worth a fortune nowadays (the original SNES cartridge, not the PSX remake). Brilliant graphics, an intriguing and complex story and a unique battle system which allows the player to link up some pretty devestating combos with their party onto the enemy. And, even cooler, was the fact that you could actually attempt the final boss right at the start of the game (via the End of Time), if you felt cocky enough and foolish enough to try (or wanted to be cut to ribbons, as so often happened). An example of true genius.

Worst: Driving Emotion Type S for the PS2. Man, oh man, What the hell went wrong? This terribly inferior clone of Grand Turismo took it one step further by making it too realistic (such as all manner of exageratted faults could befall your car in mid-race; meaning an insignificant thing like a worn tyre would cost you the race), making the game completley unplayable. Square have never made good racing games dating right back to the days of Rad Racer, their poor copy of Out Run on the NES. And Driving Emotion Type S made sure they weren't going to change any time soon.

It usually wasn't being cocky the fact that you fought him early. usually its ur first time playing, your thinking * hmm, this place is coo, i'm gonna investigate, oh look a bucket, where the hell am i, i'll just run up here.......oh shit* and then you proceed to get destroyed

Best non FF-Parasite Eve, one of my favorite horror/sci-fi games ever. The story and music were flawless. I also like Parasite Eve 2.

Worst non Ff- Unlimited Saga, and I thought FFX was a linear-ass RPG, I don't need to explain this one.

Best Non-FF Game: Star Ocean: Til The End of Time/Vagrant Story - both brilliant games, very hard to choose out of the two.

Worst Non-FF Game: Unlimited SAGA - What a load of boring shite! Its so boring that I haven't gotten very far on it at all.......I can't see any storyline, or any game development......in any sense.

Best Non-FF Game: Star Ocean, while finding a few confusing parts it was still very fun.
Worst Non-FF Game: I will be honest, I really just don't like Drakengard, dragons ain't really my thing.

As far as best non-FF goes, and we are talking just Square here, not Square-Enix so enix's past doesn't count, ChronoTrigger, hands down. Memorable charachters, multiple endings, unique battle system, need I say more?

I'll have to agree with a lot of people here on worst, Unlimited SAGA. I rented it at $1.25 for seven nights. Try figuring that thing out WITHOUT an instruction booklet. I've played it just 10 minutes and found dozens of problems. Suffice to say I haven't tried playing it since.

Best: Chrono Trigger would have to take that prize.

Worst: Clearly all these people mentioning Drakengard never attempted to suffer through Unlimited SaGa. It's hard to think of a less fun game.

I don't really have a favourite non final fantasy game made by square enix but i gotta agree with crystal Drakengard was a horrible waste of time and money. It lead no where and the story was so poor it put me to sleep while playing.

Uh lets see.....

Best... I dunno, a huge tie between Brave Fencer Musashi and Chrono Trigger...

Worst... SaGa Frontier didn't catch me at all.

But I wubs Unlimited SaGa ;.; Maybe I'm weird but I'm atracted to the game somehow, whatever.

The best is Chrono Trigger, there is no competition there for me, as for the worst, I'd go with The Bouncer.

And Drakengard isn't even a bad game, I thought it was pretty great... but then again, exposing such a game to "RPG fans" makes them think it's the plague.

Ms. Pac Man added a story to Pac Man!

Tee-hee, Brave Fencer Musashi. I forgot about that one.

Merl's little brother really loved it because of the fact that they tell you exactly what to do all the time in the beginning.

And yeah, I thought Drakengard was pretty good too. Not the best game of the year or anything, but it was fun.

Yeah, go on, try and convince me it's good.

My favorite non-final fantasy Square game is Bushido Blade. Bushido Blade is still one of my very favorite games of all time.

I can't think of anything very bad I've played by Square.

Star Ocean was my favorite, some really unique ideas in it.

Bushido Blade was godawful. One of the most sluggish fighting games I have ever played, and dying from one lucky hit everytime really gets old quick.
