I had the idea that the songs were recorded in stereo as it is a Cinemascope movie released in the fifties.

It should have been, as CinemaScope movies were recorded in Stereo, but as told in the booklet, producer Randy Thornton only found the recording sessions in mono, and the only "stereo" is the actual back chorus or whatever in some songs.

Well, that's a pity. (Still great to have this, of course!) It does puzzle me that archives of source material can just get ... lost. Wouldn't it seem its maintenance would be a fairly high priority? And I somehow imagined that Disney would be more scrupulous at this than most others ...

I do understand that the advent of home multimedia has completely changed the game, and that before this a lot of studios saw a film's life as done once its cinema run was complete -- but Disney always seemed more inventive than that, and especially with its audio material.

Ah well. My blethering on isn't going to change any of that, now, is it? ;-)
