Walt Disney’s True-Life Adventures film series includes 6 full-length features and 7 shorts for a total of 13 nature films released from 1948 to 1960.

Paul J. Smith, who wrote scores for nearly 70 animated shorts and received an Oscar� with Leigh Harline and Ned Washington for the music in "Pinocchio," wrote background music for nearly every Disney True-Life Adventure, applying techniques he had learned while writing music for cartoons. Three LPs were issued of Smith’s music for these Disney wildlife documentaries (all sadly out of print, but one of them, the soundtrack for “Secrets of Life”, is available for download on Itunes). This download offers two of the albums, newly remastered from fairly clean LP sources.

1. TRUE LIFE ADVENTURES (Disneyland WDL-4011 {1957-mono}). This contains highlights from the Smith scored film documentary shorts: "Bear Country" (1952) : “Beaver Valley” (1950); “Nature's Half Acre” (1951); “Olympic Elk” (1953); and “Prowlers of the Everglades” (1954) A near mint copy of this rare LP is currently selling on Amazon & Ebay for as much as $180.

2. THE LIVING DESERT/THE VANISHING PRAIRIE (BV-3326 [1964-mono]) The Living Desert” is a full-length feature and premiered in theaters during November of 1953 & “The Vanishing Prairie” is a full-length feature and premiered in theaters during August of 1954. Both of these scores were previously available in the early 1950s on RCA [ERAS-1 in 1953] & Columbia [CL-6332 in 1954] in addition to a 1970 UK reissue of BV-3326, all currently out of print.
