I really don't think this new need a description. Been clamoring for it for months and now I finally got it.
There is definitely some surface noise, especially on the quieter tracks.
In the heavier tracks you don't notice it, becasue there's so much going on.
This is the US WaterTower pressing, I recommend my fellow vinyl collectors to purchase it.
Stay away from the European Music On Vinyl pressing, that's the bad copy.
Hope everyone enjoys this :)

Post in the thread if you want the link. PLEASE state if you want FLAC or ALAC.

Seriously? Is there any noticeable difference between ripping in FLAC and ripping in WAV? They're both lossless. Way to be grateful.

Maybe you should rename yourself HDWav, seeing as other lossless formats don't seem to be good enough for you.

DAKoftheOTA

I quote myself, awaiting response.. don't want to be rude, but maybe it'd be helpful, and change the topic

A lot of it has to do with what kind of music you grew up with, and for me that's vinyl. It's not just about the music, though. A record is something physical that you can hold and feel. Sure HD music is nice, but it's not a physical element. A vinyl record comes inside a jacket. Sometimes it's a gatefold, sometimes it's not. Some vinyl is colored. Some jackets are more than just a cover for the vinyl. Take The Rolling Stones' Sticky Fingers - it's a pair of jeans on the front cover with an actual metal zipper on them that you can unzip. Rod Stewart's Sing It Again Rod is a die-cut jacket that's actually a glass of whiskey (these albums are slightly before my time and were once my parents' before they were given to me. They're pretty cool). Then there's the artwork. A jacket is a full 12x12 inches, and that's huge. I can recall a lot of striking album covers from my childhood - Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon, Michael Jackson's Thriller, Electric Light Orchestra's Discovery, Judas Priest's Screaming for Vengeance, Bruce Springsteen's Born in the USA. The list goes on. And then there's also the aspect of taking this huge vinyl disc out of the jacket, laying it on the turntable, and dropping the needle. It's all just really, really cool. I don't know how else to explain it. That's what it is for me :)

This is true. We're all thieves, really. But I see both sides to it. I'm not Clinton Shorter and I didn't write the score for District 9, but when I see tapoktro download my LOSSLESS vinyl rip of the expanded score, downconvert to fucking mp3, and then post it as his own? That is low. I went to Jessie and he agreed. Clearly I was the one who spent hours ripping and extracting that vinyl, so something needed to be done about that.

But it's true that no one on here owns any of this music. Unless there are some actual composers on here :p

Exactly. That's exactly what I meant. We're not talking about owning the actual music at all. It's the work that many members here do (particularly the likes of DAK and his awesome vinyls) that gets 'stolen'. That's what's so annoying. If tapoktro just asked and was given permission to share (giving credit to the original uploader) then nobody here would have a problem with what he does (whether anyone would actually give him permission to share their work in the first place is another question for another time).

I'm sorry to be that guy again, folks, but there are TAGs like "ENCODEDBY" and "COMMENT" for audio files, you want to be acknowledged as the original ripper(s)? Try using those, most of the times those "repacking-users" don't even bother to change tags at all.
I'm not commenting on the "annoyance" caused by tapoktro's behaviour, I know and agree that he's disrespectful, but like it or not, according to the actual rules of this community, he isn't doing enough "wrong" to earn a ban/warning:

Rules state that users could open a new thread if either the file-format+quality/file-hosting providers used are different.

DAKoftheOTA

It's not that he "steals" other people's uploads. That's not the part that bothers me (ok it bothers me slightly, but not too much). It's that he makes money for using uploaded.net, and the people who do not know any better actually download these things. It kills me.

Leon Scott Kennedy
04-30-2015, 09:59 PM
Well, he wasn't the first to try making money off numbers of downloads, even Jessie is using (or used) stuff like that. True, speaking of the Admin he's doing it for a "right cause", but it doesn't really change shit. Tapoktro wasn't the one to start the trend and he won't be the last you see pulling off that crap around here.

Think about it. He claims to hear sounds in the music that we can't, just like a dog can hear things that humans can't. That's why he wants 192kHz files.

I also can't remember the last time he ever shared anything himself... is this because dogs don't know how to upload things to MEGA, etc.?

Don't worry - everyone's a noob once. :)

ALAC is short for Apple Lossless Audio Codec, and is basically Apple's version of FLAC. So whereas FLAC is not supported on Apple devices and in iTunes, ALAC is. So it's the same quality, but, as a bonus, it's also compatible with Apple.

Aaah gotcha, thanks for clearing it up. I use iTunes to play and organize, but besides that I'm totally outside the Apple ecosystem. Truthfully, once I've listened to FLAC I usually end up converting it to MP3 for my library because of space and organizational issues. Audiophiles would have me hanged at dawn. :-x

EDIT: I just got to the 192kHz post. AHAHAHHAAHAHAH!

Yeah well what he doesn't know is that I pulled a fast one on him. I ripped a track at 48kHz, brought it into Audition, and then exported it out at 96kHz. And he thinks it sounds amazing. I have the whole conversation saved. Seriously, the human cannot hear the difference between 48kHz and 96kHz. It's all in your head.

You should have the link now btw.

But the vinyl does? Why was the vinyl different to the OST? Is that often the way with vinyl soundtrack releases?

I guess you're a little out of the loop. NTFC was not on the OST and there was a fucking outcry over it. So WaterTower decided to add it to the digital deluxe edition as well as the Illuminated Star Projection edition, which is why it's listed as a bonus track on there and not included chronologically.

Vinyl releases are almost always identical to the OST. However, INTS is different. It does not include 6m24 Coward (which is one of my favorite pieces), yet it does include Murph and Tick-Tock, both of which were only previously released on the ISP edition. So it's a little different this time around. I guess they wanted to be creative. And while I am disappointed it doesn't include 6m24, it does include (as I mentioned) Murph and 7m27 Detach, two other favorites of mine.

Got both the US WaterTower and the EU MOV to compare and decide on best version.

The US is much better, it's also on 140g vinyl instead of the 180g of the EU pressing.

Don't know why they obsess about vinyl weight, very few presses can press heavyweight vinyl flat, centred and free of defects; plus the lightweight vinyl is more flexible and melds to the shape of the platter better so that any inherent warps are minimised.

In agreement with DAK; the US WaterTower is the definitive copy in regards to sound quality (of the master).
