Victor Young's score for the 1957 Samuel Fuller western adventure, RUN OF THE ARROW, has the distinction of being one of the composer's two final completed film scores (the other is 1956's The Brave One). Both films were released more than a year after Young's sudden death from a heart attack at age 59. RUN OF THE ARROW is one of Victor Young's finest scores with the beautiful song, "The Purple Hills", used prominently throughout. The film featured one of Rod Steiger's most dynamic and brilliant early performances and is also one of the earliest films to sympathetically portray Native Americans. The Sound Track album of RUN OF THE ARROW was released in monaural only by Decca Records and this remaster is from a very clean copy of one of the original LPs. The sound is quite good for a Decca LP. I have remixed and repositioned most of the cues on the album back to the order they appeared in the film. Victor Young's superb score for RUN OF THE ARROW has become one of my favourite film scores and is a highly recommended listen.

Not stereo, but my taking into account in my remastering process the fact that the majority of listeners today play music on a 2 or more speaker stereo system or through stereo headphones. Most film soundtracks are recorded with multiple mikes and have out of phase signals imbedded when mixed into monaural. If these out of phase signals are extracted from the recording and then reintroduced across 2 stereo channels and remixed with the original single monaural recording the resulting sound mix plays on two speakers or headphones appearing to come from the entire wall behind the speakers with depth, vitality and even some instrumental spotlighting characteristic of stereo. Other methods of adding ambience to monaural or creating unequal channels in the remastering process have also been used but the extraction process is the only one that preserves the fidelity and spatial characteristics of the original monaural recording. That is why I apply this extraction process to all of my remasterings of monaural recordings to assure proper playback on a stereo system typical of today.

had mostly offered up to that time and long time afterwards with stereotyping. Western score by Victor Young another
