I couldn't beleive Asuma actually died in the manga;____; He wasn't my favorite character or anything, but I was still shaking after reading that chapter-_____- it could really change the Anime/Manga with what will happen to Shikamaru, Ino, and Chouji, definatyl Kurenai, and as an effect of Kurenai's sadness it makes me wonder about Hinata, Shino, Kiba and Akamaru as well.

i'm surprised that there's only two mentions of Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien on here...there isn't anything that's directly addressed in the anime that's sad to me...but the fact that they all lived with this load of guilt at what they had done to each other afterwards was enough for me to see how small things can rip apart relationships between even the best of friends

Kimi Ga Nozomu is sad not for what happened in the beginning of the anime, but more for what happens afterwards. As you stated z.zetsumei, it's what they have to go through, and the events that conspire, and all this background emotion that make this series a tear jerker for me. Also, it can be so closely related to real life, as in there's nothing that's totally out of bounds, and I guess that reality factor also plays in if you're one that has gone through a bad relationship before. Of course a lot of people say that series is boring or it wasn't sad or whatnot, but IMO i think it was.

I mean, It's okay If an anime got some sad moments, but this one Is just way to sad.

I would have to say... definitely RahXephon. Not the ending, but everything leading up to the 19th episode, and a few eps beyond that. It fcken broke my heart, I cried like a little girl.
Next would have to be SaiKano, again not the ending but that bed scene with Shuji and Akemi. And then the cheeky bastards who subbed the Anime had the nerve to put the "OMG STOP WATCHING THIS ANIME RITE NOW IF YOU DON'T WANT TO CRY UR HEART OUT LOL" AFTER that episode. Anything after that episode wasn't as tragic for me.
Fruits Basket. When Momiji Sohma told that story about that man who was too helpfull for his own good. Damn... ='(
Oh, and the endong of DBGT. Yeah, I got sad, extremely sad and happy at the same time. o_o

KGNE wasn't that tragic for me, nor Kanon, nor Air, nor even that Kenshin four part OVA.

There are a few for myself.

NHK ni Youkoso after they get back from almost killing themselves and the leader who did it because his wife left him. His son is waiting for him and says that his wife wants to get back together. There were tears there.

xxxHOLiC when Watanuki meets that woman who he loves and she loves him. It's like he has his mother back and she has her son back. She is killing him because she's a spirit but he goes and sees her anyway and about dies like three times. When Domeki sends her to the other side, there were tears abundant.

Personally I didn't cry when Wolfwood died, I just viewed it as kinda sad.

As to Spike dying in Bebop, I don't believe he died but it never says either way. It just starts over again. The first ep. begins with the last ep.

the yungest android didn,t deserve to die, aspecaly by her older sister?

sailormoon season 1-5 . talk about drama?

dragonball z : goku died twice , piccalo died twice . same goes for vegeta.

yaumcha didn,t deserve to die , stupid android.

the famous goku vs cell, that made me cry BAD.

sorcer hunters: it ended well but still .

and last but not least , X movie: that didn,t make any sense at all.
everyone died except for the hero?

xenosaga:anime ver. prototype 99 series realian , she was so cute .

& of course EVANGELION &movies. , first kaji then rei, korwru ,then asuka
in the most brutal way , after that , the whole world turned to tang.
finaly it ends with asuka& shinji ALONE , you can only guess the sad ending.

When Areis. . .oops, wait, anime.

I know Avatar: Last Airbender isn't exactly 'anime', but the there is one episode called "Tales of Ba Sae Sing", where Uncle Ihoh is remembering his dead son at the end. After the story is over, a still screen is shown dedicating the episode to Mako who had died and was the voice for Ihoh.

Anime without any closure at its final ending always makes me cry.(and pisses me off at the same time)

*SPOILER* [Despite the fact that almost everyone here already spoiled this]

FMA: When Maes Hughes gets shot by Envy impersonating his own wife, when Greed dies, and when Scar dies.
All of the other things that I can think of (From FMA) are just straight-up depressing or even frustrating (The explanation of how problems in the real [our] world provide the energy for all the alchemy in the other world; The fact that in the movie, Maes Hughes' double is a nazi, Roy Mustang's alternate self is potentially freaking Hitler, and all of the cool homunculi die/get seriously maimed before Gluttony manages to die; that Ed manages to die roughly three times in a single episode (appropriately titled "Death"); and how Marda [Marta?] gets killed by Pride [not the fact that she manages to go nowhere with her plans of revenge, just the fact that she gets cut, in HALF, while hiding inside of Al])

Eureka 7: I found Ray's death to be a bit more sad (and only a little more sadistic) than Charles'. Also, the propaganda speech regarding the whole Coralian issue (the episode aired on Adult Swim about 4 days ago) was pretty f***ed up.

Figure 17

*SPOILER*

Sho dies, and Tsubasa grieves for him. At the end Hikaru dies falling apart into particles of light as she transforms from figure to human, and only Tsubasa is allowed to remember her. It made me depressed, and I still am depressed over the ending and that's life.

I think I cried in FMA episode 3, when the song "brothers" was played. I don't know why, I just cried.

*SPOILER*

My sister cried with Kaji's dead in Evangelion, also when she knew Misato dies. She also cried with Maes Hughes Dead in FMA and Nina being turned in a Chimera. She also cried with Candy Candy, when she was three(She is now 25, and we both hate that anime)
I think The Vision of Escaflowne had a sad ending.

*Spoilers for Wolf's Rain, Trigun, FMA and others*

There are several series that almost or did make me cry a little. In Full Metal Alchemist, when Hughes dies was sad, but when his daughter started asking where her dad was brought a few tears to my eyes. In Wolf's Rain, the end was sad as well when they started dying, especially when Cher dies and Toboe is killed. In Trigun, it was when Nicholas D. Wolfwood was in the church and dies and the music made it sadder. Also there were some touching nearly sad parts that happened in Android Kikaider: the Animation. And also in Naruto, when the third Hokage died giving his life to stop Orochimaru. There are others but I can't think of them at the moment.

I think kimi ga nozomu eien, air, naruto and elfen lied were really, really sad. ok, now spoilers for them
*SPOILERS*

Naruto, there are enough moments. Mostly the ones where they play that piano tune. Got to love that tune.
Kimi ga nozomu eien, the whole story was so sad. But the saddest parts were when she was hit by a car, when she woke up and didn't remember a thing, then got in a coma again.
Air, the ending. It was so sad that she died.
Elfen lied, just almost every episode

Prak
07-05-2007, 05:35 PM
Well, the rumors are at least partly true. There are people who want to do it. The problem is getting the money. After all, the content of the show past that point would go way beyond what could be shown on TV, so it makes getting a production budget tough.

Yea, I've heard about the whole budget thing. Also heard a lot of other stuff.
One was that all the people that worked on the original anime were all off doing different projects. The other one, this one being more believable, was that the creator of Berserk wanted to finish the Berserk manga before he decided to continue it. I somehow believe he will just start from scratch since some characters were omitted from the anime. BUT if the rumor about the budget is true then that doesn't seem like it's gonna happen.

*major spoiler for cowboy bebop series and movie*

cowboy bebop is the ultimate in sad. in the movie when the lady kills her love thinking he would shot her and they could be together but he remembers he loves her and tells her it almost made me bawl and as for the series. the saddest part was not the end it was how that whore julia broke up vicious and spike's friendship, and when the saxaphonist died. basically the only happy parts were when julia died and thethe part at the end where spike and vicious were taken to the hospital and resumed their friendship. (i know they didn't show it but it happened they just forgot to end the series)

Too many classic sad scenes in anaime and gaming... Final Fantasy tactics made me cry at the end, and I was pretty shocked and saddened throughout the entire game as you watched several very human characters get killed off or suffer a loss so suddenly at every turn. Delita, Ovelia, and Ramza's tragedy's being the foremost as the most saddening of it all.

Other notable one's are Tekkaman's Blade's story, and what happened to all his freinds and family. The fate of his sister was most haunting of them all.

Guyver had a number of sad tragedy's too, both in manga and in Anime. They were simple, but overly complex, any one who remembers the Tragedy of Enzyme II, Murikami's life are good examples.

Coyboy bebop, well you've people already spoiled that one, and Trigun (anime) as well.

Devilman, if you don't know how it ends, then try and locate the anime or manga ending... it was a horribly sad event, especialy with his girlfriend and bestfriend.

"X" though it's incomplete, and them both the movie and anime were too damn short, every character has a tragedy, and I've sure there is at least one scene you'd cry over.

Ninja Gaiden for the NES, had one of the sadder moments in early NES story telling. Ryu and his father's struggle's are sad, especialy with all the effort Ryu put into avenging his father's death, only to be forced o fight him later. Afterwords... you're going to have to play the game.

I agree, Kimi ga Nozomu Eien (Rumbling Hearts in the US) had a few extremely sad moments, even after watching it twice I still couldnt keep a few tears from sliding out when *SPOILER* Takayuki and Haruka finally part ways *END SPOILER*, that is one damn tear jerking moment.

But my choice for saddest anime series I've ever watched definetly has to be TWIN SPICA, a not-so-known 20 episode series about a girl, Asumi, who dreams of becoming an astronaut and manages to enter the space academy (actually my avatar comes from this show). Almost every episode where you have flashbacks of Asumi's childhood is sure to bring you to tears at some point or another, or if you just want to play it brave and not cry, you'll be choking on the knot that will build inside your throat. So if you haven't seen this show yet, I hope you manage to find it! (it was never released stateside)

So if you haven't seen this show yet, I hope you manage to find it! (it was never released stateside)

gonna watch this one(torrent and rapidshare premium ftw^^)

Elfen Lied is my favorite and one of the saddest ones I've seen. The first anime I ever cried about was Pokemon the First Movie near the end... :P

Before I saw Elfen Lied, the only other anime that jerked a tear or so from me was Yu Yu Hakusho when Kuwabara goes to Yusuke's funeral and still wants to fight him (well, I thought it was sad, anyway...).

I thought the OVA for Rurouni Kenshin was pretty sad, telling of his old life as a killer. Shows how people can do evil while thinking they have gd intentions.

My most recent memory of a fairly sad anime was Myself; Yourself. It didn't end sadly at the very end, but the people were pretty miserable. And many of them were pretty messed up psychologically.

I shamelessly admit that the anime I cried most while watching was Ai Yori Aoshi, somewhere around the last eight episodes of the first season. It wasn't even that sad-- it just moved me somehow.

I have seen Kimi ga Nozumu Eien, as mentioned recently, but it wasn't painful to me in a sad way. It was painful to me in a grating way.

I cried. I cried alot, that movie was really just so depressing. As well, I'm a big WWII buff, and that didn't help any.

Just watched all 26 sessions of Cowboy Beebop over like 3 days and must say that is the saddest for me (not hard give that I have only watched two others lol)

**SPOILERS** though nothing that hasn't already been said..

I was the saddedest when Ein died rather than every else, wait, that never happened.

But seriously, I think Spike dying made sense in the whole scheme of the series. I was sadder when Ed and Ein left. Basically, because at this point Faye had already left and it sort of felt like the team was breaking up (which of course they were).

I really felt like I had connected with them, ya know?

I could only watch that anime once Lol. It was too depressing. I watched it at my friend's house and I was like "I'm going home." Long-sad-walk back to my house Lol.

I never finished Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien but it was pretty sad after that over the top tragic accident. But after a while it just got annoying imo.

I can name these three:

Ginban Kaleidoscope:

I literally broke into tears with the ending (first time!). Well, Pete was a ghost that only possessed Sakurano for a hundred days.

School Days:

It was sad because of the killings of Makuto and Sekai. Why the heck does it have to be that way?!?! Now, Kotonoha is left alone.

GateKeepers 21:

Simply because it was too short and a lot of questions were still left unanswered while also putting and big period on the GateKeepers.

Yeah same goes here trigun was a sad anime yet funny at some point but cowboy bebop was sadder cause spike dies.....

Oh, I don't know about that. Sure, Spike gets sliced like 5 times, but is he really dead? Spike Spiegel...... I remember him collapsing. That dosn't mean he is dead.
Not only that i have heard rumors of a 2nd Season, or at least a couple more episodes that ties everything up.
See you Space Cowboy!

*Somewhat Insignificant Spoiler*

The original Pokemon episodes, the one where Butterfree leaves the crew. I freakin' cried over that scene, but in my defense I was just a kid. Although there were other times that made me feel sad. OKAY NOW GO AHEAD AND LAUGH AT ME!! HAVE A CHUCKLE AND BE DONE WITH IT YOU INSENSITIVE B****RDS!!!!
Then again considering the topic insensitive might not be the best word to use on you guys lol :)

Lol, not gonna laugh at you, just your defensive stance. Too be honest, that was a very touching scene and I still have the music from that scene in my computer and I listen to it every so often because of it's beauty. Now if you cried because because James stopped wearing those fake boobs and a bikini, then that would be worthy of redicule. (episode when Team Rocket member James entered a female bikini contest... weird)

Hokuto No Ken TV series was depressing for me. I watched the movie years before the TV series so I kinda knew what was going to happen to some of the characters........but it was still very depressing to watch those characters (and others) die.

Galaxy Expess 999 movie......the scene with Tetsuro and his mom.....

Giant Robo had a lot of sad scenes.

Grave of the Fireflies would probably take the title of Saddest anime of all time...........if I ever choose to watch it.

I watched the last episode of Serial Experiments Lain last night, and have to say I thought the ending was pretty depressing. I immediately found myself thinking "so basically after everything this character's been through and had to find out about herself throughout the story, that's how things end up for her?"

I personally found it pretty sad, as had been hoping things would take a more optimistic turn.
Still an interesting ending - and show - imo though!

For me, Grave of the fireflies.

One of the best anti-war anime or animation of the 20th century.

The character.
The environment.
The story.
The song.

All is tragedy.

(I will try byousoku 5 centimeters when I have time. I listened to the song and it was very sad.)

Man,I'm quite agree with this. The scene where Rosette cried in the end before he and Chrono....

Kinda agree too with Rurouni Kenshin Seisouhen. I never expect that the end would be that way.

Hmmm....mine would maybe be Elfen Lied for now. The murder scene in the train, and the scene in the final episode where this guy died with her daughter

Yeah! I'm a sucker for the cliche romantic movies and such, but Makoto Shinkai is a brilliant director imo, and his stuff just reels you in. I was really upset during this, as well as in Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo. Both good movies

5 centimeters per second... I found myself so inside the movie that I couldn't sleep, and until now I just can't take out of me that deep felling of loneliness...

The story is so... similar of mine.

Anyway! a constructive critic, the final scene is so wonderful except the song... I think it had nothing to do with the entire way of expression. It's even loud and the singer is... sad.... the good part is the lyrics, they are just fine
