John “Johnny” Green (1908-1989) was one of the greatest conductors, arrangers & composers of the 20th. Century. He was the Music Director at MGM from 1949 to 1959 and during that time, along with orchestrator Conrad Salinger, was most responsible for transforming the sound of the MGM Studio Orchestra into a world class virtuoso ensemble second to none. In 1957 MGM Records released this LP tribute to Johnny Green which included a combination of earlier sound track performances and some newly recorded themes from MGM & other 1950s films recorded by Green & the MGM Orchestra, including Green’s then new themes from MGM’s Academy Award nominated blockbuster of 1957, “Raintree County”. I have remastered and expanded the original album with additional themes from MGM films composed and/or conducted by Johnny Green during his tenure as Music Director at MGM Studios. I hope you enjoy this musical tribute to one the musical giants of Hollywood’s Golden Age and beyond.
