The 1973 Ross Hunter musical film of LOST HORIZON was released on BluRay recently, the fully remastered uncut version of the film. The soundtrack album has also been reissued on CD but features the original LP’s 30 minute songs only configuration. Here is Burt Bacharach’s excellent but never released underscore from “Lost Horizon”, which makes for a great listen away from the film. Since this recording was never commercially released in any form there is no artwork for it.

Terrific. I was young enough to think this movie great when I was a child; I have changed my opinion rather drastically. But Bacharach remains one of the great composers working in the pop and musical theatre field, one of the few in his era with an adventurous and recognizable style. This project doesn't represent Hal David's best work, and probably the inapt lyrics contributed to the falling-down of the movie far more than Bacharach's varied and interesting music... Thanks, Stevie, for this chance to hear the underscore!
