A soundtrack for Finnish thriller "Musta J" (Black Ice) composed by Apocalyptica cellist Eicca Toppinen. It contains both metal songs, similar to Apocalyptica's own material, and more calm film score pieces.

Two of the songs on this soundtrack evolved to be songs on Apocalyptica's "Worlds Collide" album. "Love Song" became "I Don't Care" and "Evil Ground" became "Burn".

How the fuck was he able to write better music for a movie soundtrack than for his band??? What was he thinking??? Well it doesn't really matter as long as we can please our ears with this beautiful classical/metal music...

It is actually one of the best soundtracks ever. I can't imagine how much time did he spend writing and arranging and playing this music... While most of the songs are pure classical cello music and just a few pure fucking cello metal we could say this album is like the one Apocalyptica should have made instead of Worlds Collide. Way better, way stronger, way more emotional, way more beautiful... Almost excellent.

To many classical cello pieces were written in this album, as I said before it doesn't matter but if he wrote songs like Alone in the Dark and Evil Ground we expected a lot more heavyness in this soundtrack. And even though the heavy pieces are longer than the classical pieces something is missing. And no, voices aren't missing. Though "Black Ice" might be the best song with vocals... No kidding this sounds amazing, they should keep on doing vocals with unknown singers for most of us sake!

The only problem is that some songs remind me to what he wrote for Worlds Collide, for example: Love Song sounds like I Don't Care and though it is not the same song at all it has this touch that makes you think you are listening to a second (and better) part of Worlds Collide. This impossible! But at the same time so perfect that you forgive everything that could be wrong with it.
