No, this isn't about that silly thing that happened on SNL. Get over that.

Okay, for those who don't know already, I work in a Blockbuster Video, and at Blockbuster we have these TVs around the store that play movie previews, trivia questions, actor/actress profiles, and music videos. It's called "Blockbuster TV" but it's really just a DVD that we stick in the store DVD player and it loops through the same few bits all day. So whatever music videos are on, we get really really sick of by the time a new disc arrives and there are new ones on.

Right now, one of the videos being played is that new Ashlee Simpson one. I can't remember the title of it at the moment, but the chorus line is, "Living in the shadow of someone else's dream." Right. So I'm all indifferent to the song, really. It's not particularly hard to tune out.

Then the other day I'm helping this couple who comes in sometimes and are always bitching at each other, and at one point, the lady is like, "Oh, I love this song." 'Cause that Ashlee Simpson song is on. And the dude says something to the effect of, "Shut up you dumb bitch that song is crap" and she starts going on this rant about how the song is great and it's all about how Ashlee has to live in the shadow of her sister Jessica. And then the lady starts going on about how Jessica isn't talented at all and Ashlee is. Then I finally got them out of the store and sighed in relief.

Anyway, the point is: What the fuck? I really hope that's not what the song is actually about. Oh, poor little Ashlee, having to be overshadowed by her big sister! Nevermind that she catapulted off her sister's success to become rich and famous and adored by millions of stupid kids! There's a line in the song that says, "It's so hard being me." Yeah, it must suck to have a million dollar recording contract and get to sing for a living. It must be so, so hard having a big sister who's famous. Really.

The only thing that could make it worse is if she actually wrote that song. I hope not.

Her sister has a lot more talent than her, IMO.

I mean, have you ever seen her sing? She looks like she can swallow the microphone!

I don't think you have much to worry about.

I read in a newpaper today that there is a organization called HOPE (it's an accronym for something) in New York that will let you trade in your Ashlee Simpson CDs for a CDs of Higher Quallity.

It listed several of the bands they would give you new Cd's of like The Ramones and Elvis Costelo(sp?) and Jimmy Page amoung otheres.

That has to be a major blow to her self-Essteem.

I think it's rather funny that artists have songs that seem to be "personal" and yet they weren't even written by them. Jennifer Lopez does that a lot.

ashlee simpson's voice seems to crack a lot...she doesn't have as much talent.

Even talented people have crappy voices a lot of the time. Look at punk. She doesn't have talent in any area of the spectrum. I'm convinced that she wouldn't even be in the spotlight if her sister wasn't famous.

her songs are good but her voice is not all that great... and as for the "so hard being me" part that is like wtf oh yeah being rich is hard alright... i hate it when celbrities say that about their current lifes.. i mean if they had a truly bad childhood then i wouldn't mind them saying so but if they're f-ing rich and they say that it's just crap...

She definitely wouldn't be, and that's essentially why I think that song is so ridiculous.

I think both of them are talented, though, if "talented" means "able to sing well." Doesn't mean they deserve to be touted as superstars, though.

It does!

And superstar is just a measure of fame. I have no idea how big they are though.

Singers like that are just tools. Get the right people behind them and they'll have awesome music, but that rarely happens. And even when they do get someone good behind them, it may just be for one album and the next one is entirely different and sucky and everyone wonders "what happened?" So they can't really be trusted. That's why having an active role in the creation of your own music is important. If someone makes their own songs and they're good, you can at least expect whatever they make in the future to be solid, and you'll be able to notice the changes the make as they develop over time and such so that when they're suddenly making music you don't care about anymore, you'll be able to see why...

Jessica and "Ashlee" (who the fuck spells it that way?) should both be shot, no questions, investigations, etc. Same with Hillar Duff, except she should receive slow and brutal torture first.

I don't really know much about Ashless Simpson, so I'm not going to comment on that.

Really, I just wanted to say that I think it must be pretty horrible to be famous. I can't fathom why anyone would want to live their lives under that much scrutiny. It makes no sense to me.

Because they make millions of dollars for doing close to nothing but partying and singing or whatever.

Plus, some of them just love the attention.

I guess giving up my privacy isn't worth any sum of money to me.

Good thing I've no desire to become famous. ^^

This thread was like a year old, this is the longest time before a thread has been revived that have ever seen. Your comment was of essentially no value either! What the fuck were you thinking?
