It sounds a lot like he's ripping off Dario Marianelli's theme from V For Vendetta.

You can hear parts of "Evey Reborn" every so often.
It builds up with the soft strings and then changes into something else.

Every now and then it sounds like another soundtrack.
And some parts sound like yet another composer.

Some Eldemen, some Newman.

I agree with you all, this doesn't sound like Elfman's music, not even close, and I'm a huge fan of Danny's stuff. The movie is a good adaptation of the novel, and the main actors seem to have great chemistry, unlike what one critic had said, but the music is really not memorable at all. very disappointed.

This is a beautiful score, and it's pure Elfman. Don't expect Batman or Nightmare at Christmas here, but more something like Dolores Clairborne. A fine addition to my Elfman collection, thanks for sharing!

He is - and that's precisely the whole problem. I mean, he gave us the unforgettable Batman and Batman Returns, Men in Black, A Civil Action, Sleepy Hollow, The Wolfman and dozens of other great scores...and now this. Really, Mr. Elfman? Really?

Well, I guess the man has some bills to pay or children to feed (or a bank account that needs some lovin')... In these 'creative' careers, when paid work comes very far off in between, any opportunity that comes by is appreciated. I doubt Elfman saw any artistic merit in this film (there's arguably nothing artistic in the movie's concept at all), but he could've taken this one in to blow off some steam. Maybe a couple of years from now, he'll admit that a relative emotionally blackmailed him to accept the offer too xD

I wonder... if the Danny Elfman who had just finished the likes of Batman, Dick Tracy, Edward Scissorhands, Nightbreed, etc... was transported into our future and heard the typical scores that his future self is now pumping out, what would he think?

To me, Danny Elfman died back in the 90's. The Elfman working today just writes dull wallpaper music.

tracks 7 & 12 not working?

Rather underwhelming score I must say. But that applies pretty much to the film as well.

I love Elfman all the way back to his Oingo Boingo years . I attempted to listen to this soundtrack and felt like it's so mainstream and commercial. I can't get into this book or the film, apparently not even the score.
