In that case the answer is pretty obvious, the damage done by Shinra was enough to nearly kill us, and only the planets will to live alowed lifestream to counter the Metor/Holy hybrid

so Holy did work it just didn't have he expected effect

Well, Holy was "summoned", but it wasn't strong enough to stop Meteor. Only with the help of the Lifestream could meteor be stopped. The Lifestrem merged with Holy and their combined power stopped Meteor.

Thus humanity continues yo live on...But there is now a disease affecting peeps.

Well, Holy was "summoned", but it wasn't strong enough to stop Meteor. Only with the help of the Lifestream could meteor be stopped. The Lifestrem merged with Holy and their combined power stopped Meteor.
