The Vally Forge model was used in the Original Battlestar Galactica as the aggro ships. Even the dome interior or a mock up of it was used in the two parter War of the Gods.

As far as i know, the producers of "Battlestar Galactica" used original footage of "Silent Running" but not the model! ;)

According to the site IMDB.com 'Joel Hodgson, creator of Mystery Science Theater 3000, credits Silent Running as a major inspiration for his show.'

Another bit of trivia: The haunting music for the film was written by Peter Schickele, who is known primarily for his classical music parodies under the name of P.D.Q. Bach.

Saw it for the first time on NBC in the mid-70's. It had the same sort of impact on me that it sounds like it did on you.

The movie was directed by some guy named Douglas Trumbull. That name seems vaguely familiar, though I can't quite place him...

That's an interesting tid bit of info. Will have to seek out some P.D.Q. Back stuff.

Thanks for the heads-up.

Yes, I would also like the link! I had the CD back in 1999 or 2000. It was produced by "Supertrack records" with a 1000 limited run, but it got lost somewhere over the years, so looking forward to getting this music again.

The scene where Lowell pushes his shovel against the neck of Cliff Potts, he injured the actors neck quite badly.

I agree with everyone here, fantastic and inspiring.
saw this film (in Lansing MI) first time in 71, Could not get any friends to go with me so went by myself in afternoon.
Sat there in awe at the music and effects (and especially Dern) and believe it or not, sat there for three more showings
back in the day when you could do that.
Still have the orig. on lp - and green lp.
Was very diss-heartened when they finally released on DVD only to find sound track MONO!
Anyway, thanks for post - sorry to have missed file.
Thanks for the memories guys!

I saw this only today. (When it was more than gracefully made a flac and shared, I was having my standard and long vacations in hospitals.)

Here's what we can record at YouTube! "Silent Running" is here! Just go to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jqHY_DpZIoM. I love Schickele even more than I like his PDQ. This film and its music are more than good company -- these have all of life and some peoples' living in it.

I'm grateful he posted it. I would have loved to be here (for many things) then - but if he didn't would I have found this on YouTube? Not likely! As always, let's go enjoy.
