The Last Samurai

Ultimate Edition

38 Tracks, TRT: 2h11, FLAC

PM Only!

Bitrate: flac / File size: 537Mb

v2.0 Notes!
-----------
- These cues are still not the 'film version':
1. Source music that is found between tracks 9 and 10 (chanting monks). Isolating didn't work.
2. A small insert of 20s at the beginning of track 13 (looks similar to an insert of TTRL but with a variation at the end, tried it, but didn't work so left it out)
3. Track 16 (Draw) from the sessions has a ticking sound (like a metronome). I don't know why, it's also the only track that has it. No other source for this track exists, so I kept this one for completeness.
- Lowered the soundlevel of most of the tracks because the sessions were slightly overpowered.
- A lot of tracks were (cross)mixed from different cues, to match the film version as closely as possible. Also, sometimes Sound FX had to be added, from the lossy source, or from an alternate sound library.

Note1: This is a custom edit of the original score as heard in the movie. All tracks are presented chronologically. This Ultimate Edition is the result of a combination of various source material (the original bluray dts/dolby track, recording sessions, bootlegs, source music and the original OST), carefully edited together, resulting in one of the best score mixes for this movie, possible. All tracks are rendered in the best quality, however, depending on the source, not all tracks have lossless quality. This edition recreates the original mix with previously unreleased music and edits, completely SFX free. It's made for true fans. Not only is this a close recreation of the original mix, it also features original voiceovers, that were carefully edited in the process. I really hope you enjoy this release, it's been very carefully and precisely mixed, true to the theatrical cut by Edward Zwick.

Note2: Please use playlists for optimal listening experience. The Ultimate movie experience playlist features all tracks with source music/voiceovers, The Ultimate OST experience has only instrumental tracks.

Note3: Unused tracks, alternates, trailer cues, etc... are not available on the Ultimate Edition. They are not part of this series, for a simple reason, they are not part of the movie, and are already available on other releases. So if you want them, search the forum. My edition is the exact representation of cues as heard in the movie, nothing more and nothing less.

Note4: Some cues may sound cut off, or harshly edited, but it is based on the original mix, and oftenly in the movie, tracks are faded in/out or cues are mixed with Sound FX to make the transition work.

Note5: Also, most tracks are the exact same version as heard in the movie aka 'the film version', either taken straight from the original recordings (or other releases), or mixed by me to make it a 'fan created' film version.

Note6: For the record, this Ultimate edition is not a Complete edition. However, I try to come as close as possible to feature everything 'as heard in the movie' with custom edits and mixes.

Late Christmas present from me. :)

Some people on the Shrine were asking me this (couple of months actually) but I never bothered to release it. v1 was compiled a year ago, after the sessions were released. After making a rough mix for my UE series, I never felt it added the extra 'punch' my series are known for. But a year later, I decided to rehash everything and found out that it did make a difference. So here it is. The Last Samurai Ultimate Edition (v2) for your enjoyment. Hope you like it!

Watch the movie, relisten the score (this one ofcourse) and come back and thank me again ;)

Seriously, If you haven't bought it yet... Please do, it's a friggin awesome movie. Even if you don't like Cruise, it's one of his best.

Yes, a lot of time was spent on this. Like my other editions, I don't like to release something I'm not satisfied with. I hesitated a long time for this release, and only after Anakinbetrayel and Amh kept asking me for it I decided to revisit my work an start all over again. After couple of weeks of work on v2 (and couple of weeks on v1 last year) I felt it was 'good enough' to be released. But the process doesn't stop here, if I manage to make it even better, tweaking/fixing stuff I will not hesitate to release a v3.

What bluray version was used for this?

North America: USA/Canada have only AC3 lossy (plus 50 other languages).
I did find a lot of countries that had Dolby TrueHD for the English audio.

But, I have not seen any DTS versions.

Please don't just say "my own bluray".
What country you from?
What country is the disc from?

Your version is the RS (or complete), see my post, it's also shared. But some of the tracks are not the final film version. I combined and mixed it so it reflects what's heard in the movie.

Yep, it was the TrueHD track.
It was mostly used as reference for my mix, only one track was actually ripped and used in the compilation.

But, I have not seen any DTS versions.

Yes you're right, my bad.

v2.0 is the first public release. v1 was a (rough) mix I created a year ago, only for myself.

My favorite score. I have 6 different versions of this score, inc the 2 disc bigger balls 23 tracks, the 2 disc expanded 25 tracks, the 2 disc 14 trakcs, the "complete" 33 tracks, the recording sessions, 37 tracks. I also have the original on CD. I really do believe that StRuPiE's is the best I've listened to.
