It's available for me. Just need to check some things first before committing to purchase.

Hi Sparktank. Is it worth testing a single track to see if there are wasted bits or is it one of those albums that require the whole shebang to be bought in one hit?

tehƧP@ƦKlyANK -Ⅲ
12-27-2014, 01:38 AM
More than one test would be more accurate.

But on from my view, it's "Album only" so I wouldn't be able to buy a single track and test. I'd have to buy the whole thing.

---------- Post added at 04:38 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:37 PM ----------

If it helps, the TMNT and Luch OST's from HDT weren't wasted_bits when i tested several tracks from each album.

I believe the only thing HDT has against them is the ridiculuous sampling rate.

How do I check for wasted bits? Is there a foobar plugin?

I can't remember if there was something to display wasted_bits.
There is for HDCD content, but that's not relative here.

Start here (link below) for the .cmd file (text file with access to Windows command promt).
It's tricky to learn/modify.

Scroll backwards at that point to read through the thread and learn what's going on and how it's used.
Detecting whether a 24-bit file has been upconverted from 16-bit? - Hydrogenaudio Forums (http://www.hydrogenaud.io/forums/index.php?s=&showtopic=97746&view=findpost&p=831011)

eac3to also has its own variation to check for wasted_bits.

eac3to source.flac -analyzeBitdepth -log="source_bitdepth.txt"

That's not how it works.

Different concept altogether.

You're looking at wasted frequency responses (sampling rate).

You can't "view" bit depth.
You can view a difference in volume between something mastered with 24bit "in mind" (as it allows greater dB dynamic range over 16bit limitations).
But those are very few and far between. No digital store really produces a louder 24bit version when they are fully capable (blame the studio that sends the masters; blame the mixer/engineers that conform to lossy standards since most people will be playing on their iDerp).

I've not tested wasted_bits with flac.exe yet.
But I did with eac3to and it shows 24bits.

eac3to does scan and show what bit depths there are (we've seen average bit depth and most common bit depth results for various sources; Oblivion isolated score shows to be an average 18 bit depth over entire movie track for e.g..).

I also read up on older posts of the official eac3to thread/forum about eac3to's version of checking bit depth (not limited to only flac).

It works differently than what flac.exe can do for FLAC files, but the principle is still there.

I have to try look through my archives for any version that worked best for what I do to scan whole folders and print out results.

24 bit depth
44.1 kHz

22 - No Time for Caution

The sample rate looks good. There's also noise in the background where there isn't much musical data.
not completely black and void of noise.

Doesn't say anything about bit depth.
But, eac3to likes it.

Still trying to figure out how to get fbits to work the way I like it.

Not available to me in my country.

I should have expressed I don't have an interest in the soundtrack.

That site seems to be limited compared to HDT.
They only have a few selections for soundtracks.

Since the request has been fulfilled (largely because I was interested in obtaining a legit copy), I think it's safe to avoid any further arguing in this thread.

Everyone can banter back and forth to no end.

Behold, I ended it with the fulfillment of the initial request (the secondary request wasn't official as it was thought up only after the thread title creation).
