Hi, i applogise if this has been done before, i did try searching, but if it has, if you could just stick a link and close this itd be great.

Anyway, recently ive been having FF cravings, however i leant my ps2 to a friend while hes at university for the first semester and im bored.

I was wondering if anyone knew of any rpgs in a similar style to the final fantasys that i might enjoy. I have neverwinter nights, and have played mmorpgs before, and this wasnt really what i wanted, tis a lil hard to describe what im after, but i figured if any forum would understand the difference between the FF rpgs and the hardcore pc ones, itd be here

anyway, any comments appriciated, cheers

p.s. the games do not have to be new, im lookin for plot+gameplay, graphics comes a weak 3rd :)

FF titles are available on pc.
I used to have a copy of FFVIII on pc; I would try FFXI.

i was under the impression ff xi was a mmorpg along the lines of daoc etc, which while fun for the first few days, i found really boring because the plots are limited and it seems the only point in leveling up is to be a higher level, as opposed to progress (aint played ff xi so im speculating)

im tempted to get an older FF on the pc, but i have em all on ps1/2 so seems like a bit of a waste

and im not a huge lotr fan, but ill look into that other one thanks :)

keep them comin gentlemen :)

Omnislash has a valid point - if plot and gameplay is all that you're after, there are heaps of quality RPGs that you could get for the SNES that you can download.

Some of my personal favourites are Star Ocean, Chrono Trigger and Secret of Mana.

aye possibly

post was kinda askin for non-ff stuff that was along same vein (altho i didnt specify well), have pld the older ff's a bit, but i may get my teeth into one again (should b 6, but my save corrupted after getting really far, and i didnt wanna redo same stuff at the time)

ive heard good things about grandia2, so mebbe grab that for 5 on amazon as well

was looking for chrono cross, although as far as i know its not available on pal

anyways ta

Download an Emulator for SNES, and a Chrono Trigger rom. Thats about 15 hours of goodness.

Try Diablo II - its good, but not Final Fantasy like.

I think he can't take the 2D heat. Shame :(

Dorf, unfortunately Chrono Cross isn't available on PAL - along with Xenogears and FF Tactics, another quality Square RPG we've been screwed out of :(

heh its not so much "cant take the heat" :-\ , ill not avoid playing a 2d game like FF6 when i fancy it (gotta say my only problem is the sound quality, not the graphics), but im also not ashamed of liking games to look and sound nice either

and yer, diablo2 was a good game, played it to death unfortunatly (im not one for replaying things unfortunatly, well except FF7)

anyway looks like ive got a decent list of things to start on now, so cheers lads :)

note: reason i said very little about emulation is because as u can tell by my post count im new here and i didnt wanna risk getting anyones back up :)

--edit--

figured id add this cos replying again woulda been pointless

i mentioned grandia2, its pretty cheap on pc, what do people think of it?

With games in FF style, do you soully aim at the fact that it's turn based? I'd hihgly recommend (either way) Septerra Core. It is the best RPG ever made for the PC. And it's turnbased aswell.

I've heard good things about Grandia 2, and the graphics on the back look similar to FF7.

Never played it though.

Oh, and don't worry about emu - we're a Final Fantasy message board. The only way a lot of us got to play the first six FF games was an emu - the PSX rereleases weren't out. It's still the only way to play Final Fantasy 3(jap). Until it comes out for the Nintendo DS, that is.

Screwed is an understatment just because of Xenogears. I feel much pain for you.

If you can find it, get a rom of either Lufia 2 or Earthbound.

Neither of those games get the props that they deserve.

Earthbound is fantastic.

Lufia 2, I lost my save halfway through and never could be bothered finishing it. =\
