Let's have a shot at this thread... why not!?

My first ever superhero movie ever was Iron Man. I'd never read any of the superhero comics (Marvel, DC, etc) and had no idea that Tony Stark was part of a universe that included Spider-Man. I also didn't know about Thor, or even really Captain America. I just knew about the concept behind the Iron Man movie and knew that I wanted to see it (the idea of a genius who could build a body suit that could fly to escape from terrorists was rather attractive)! I absolutely loved the film, and fell in love with the character of Tony Stark, as portrayed by RDJ.

As a movie fan in general, I've always (always!) watched the end credits until the end. In my opinion, the credits are part of the movie and are interesting to read. Also, it's a great chance to listen to the score (as long as there aren't too many songs at the start of the credits). A few times, I've been rewarded for staying until the end of the credits (usually by Pixar) with some funny little bonus scene.

So it was to my very pleasant surprise that I discovered the "Avengers Initiative" at the end of Iron Man. That was my first indication that Tony Stark was part of a bigger universe. Nick Fury could have easily been speaking to me when he said to Tony: "You think you're the only superhero in the world? Mr. Stark, you've become part of a bigger universe. You just don't know it yet."

I subsequently got online and checked out the Phase 1 list of films. As I've never been particularly attracted to the idea of Hulk, I really wasn't that keen to watch The Incredible Hulk, particularly after finding out that Mark Ruffalo replaced Edward Norton as the Hulk in The Avengers. As a perfectionist, I have OCD about that sort of thing. Just like I cannot fathom the idea of recasting Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man. But that's another topic altogether.

So after introducing my sister to Iron Man, we watched Iron Man 2 together. I have to say, it was a little disappointing. It's certainly not as good as the original, but after subsequent repeat viewings of many scenes from the film, I've come to enjoy it a lot more. There are some priceless scenes (the senate meeting, the Mk. V in Monaco, Tony and Pepper in the office, etc) that really make the movie. Particularly RDJ and Gwyneth Paltrow together.

As my sister is at music college at the moment, we've made an agreement that each time we see a Marvel film together we are to wait until we're together again before watching the next one. That means waiting until the holidays before watching the next film. So we watched Thor together when she was home for a couple of days a month or so ago. We both really enjoyed it, as it's just a lot of fun! Chris Hemsworth is fantastic as the title role, and very funny. Looking forward to seeing The Dark World, which a lot of people say is better than the first.

My sister is coming home for the Christmas hols this evening, so in the next three weeks we hope to watch Captain America: The First Avenger, The Avengers, and Iron Man 3. I personally can't wait to see Tony Stark on screen again in The Avengers and particularly Iron Man 3.

So fingers crossed, I'll be posting on here tomorrow sometime with my opinion of The First Avenger...!!

I'm also hoping to introduce my sister to the Amazing Spider-Man universe at some point. :)

So there you have it.

Great Post!!

Glad You Like IM RDJr "Is" Tony Stark No Q Nver to Be Recast Same As Chris Hem & Chris Evans In Their Characters ;)

I Have To Agree With You IM1 Is The Best (I Feel Of All 3) But Each Thier Own. And Thor 2 Is Better Than 1 But I Like Them All
The Only Film I Have Ever Felt Let Down By Is Hulk Its Just 2 Slow For Me (But I Have Never Been A Hulk Fan)

TASM Are Good But No 2 Left Me Feeling The Characters (Villains Side) Where Never Really Given Much Air Time

But Interesting How You See The Octopus Arms & Black Vile (Venom?? Maybe)In The Oscorp Lab)

Enjoying Agents of SHIELD But Feel S2 Not As Strong As S1

GOTG Was A Lot Better Than I Thought It Would Be Bring On Age of Ultron!!

That's because Sony was pushing and shoving Marc Webb into doing what they wanted him to do with his movie. If they'd left him alone, I think he could have directed ASM2 into a film just as successful as TASM.

Hopefully those teasers are an indication that TASM franchise will continue. Although who knows what could happen?! Whatever happens, Garfield is Peter Parker/Spider-Man. End of story. Nobody could replace him. :)

I Agree Altho I Like The Original Siper-man (With Dafoe As Goblin) I Did Not Like Toby McGuire As Spidey

From the many clips I've seen, he really doesn't look or sound how Peter Parker should be, let alone Spider-Man. And Andrew Garfield is such a brilliant actor (as is Emma Stone!).

I thought each Phase ended with an Avengers team-up... but Ant Man is still part of Phase 2, after Age of Ultron? Why isn't Ant Man considered the first film of Phase 3?

James (The Disney Guy)

I thought the same but i donno why thry changed it.
Maybe there is a huge plot involved in avangers that leads to antman??
Otherwise i draw a blank.

Yeah, same. No idea. Even if Ant Man was majorly connected to Ultron, that's no reason to include it in Phase 2. Iron Man 3 was, by all accounts, fairly connected to The Avengers in some aspects, yet it was the first film in Phase 2, not the last in Phase 1. But whatever. I'm sure Marvel have their reasons! :P

I have not read the offical setting for antman so donno the plot other than he get the suit and someone wants it to be bad...

Actually, I know absolutely nothing about Ant Man! The first I heard of him was this upcoming film a few months ago. So I have no idea what the story line is! :P

The official Ant-Man synopsis: More cast members revealed in new synopsis for Ant-Man including Jordi Molla - Movie News | JoBlo.com (http://www.joblo.com/movie-news/more-cast-members-revealed-in-new-synopsis-for-ant-man-including-jordi-molla-191)

My SWAG on Ant-Man being part of Phase 2 is AM is an origin story and Marvel has stated that starting with Dr. Strange no more origin stories.

As for more Garfield as Spidey, Marvel, if the rumors are true, wants a new actor. No third origin story, Spidey will be an established hero and any romance will be the "B" story not the "A" story. Much as I like Garfield as Spidey it makes sense not to bring the baggage of the previous movies into the new one. (Killing Gwen was an incredibly bone headed move just to give Pete a "sad.")

Guess that makes sense... Although starting Phase 3 with the final origins story wouldn't be a bad idea, IMO.

Yeah, I know about what Marvel have said. I've been keeping up with the Spidey news on a daily basis recently!

Tbh, if anything, I'd rather Sony just carried on with the ASM franchise but stopped interfering so much with the creative process and let good directors do what they want.

Tbh, if anything, I'd rather Sony just carried on with the ASM franchise but stopped interfering so much with the creative process and let good directors do what they want.

I'd like that as well but when it comes to Spidey they just can't adopt a hands off policy. (Perhaps it's because Spidey is their only superhero and they're seeing what a money making machine Marvel superheroes have become.) They want their piece of the pie. Problem is, Sony doesn't know the first thing about pie making. (MMMM-pie.)

Sony hasn't learned what Fox and Warner have learned, if you want superhero franchise to work you need a director with a passion for the project and who has a clear vision for the franchise. Warner replaced Burton with Schumacher and turned Batman into a joke. They then got a clue and brought in Nolan. Fox replaced Singer with Ratner and Hood and we know how that worked out. It took Singer two movies to get the X-Men universe back on track. And Marvel has Feige and Whedon and when Whedon leaves the MCU after Ultron the Russo brothers will take over.

Sony needs to do the same: find that person, hire that person, then swallow their pride and stay the hell out of the director's way.

The plot to the pilot for Constantine was OK, but just that. To be fair the writers had to cram a lot of back story into the pilot and certain elements suffered. Wisely the writers recognized the character of Liv wasn't a good one and wrote her out. (Goyer acknowledged the fault, as show runner, was his and apologized saying he wanted to bring Liv back in the second season and do right by her.)

On balance the series has been good with some episodes being very good and the last episode before the Christmas hiatus "Saint of Last Resorts" the best so far. The writers don't really know what to do with Chaz but I like what the actor, Charles Halford, brings to the character. Angelica Ceyala as Zed Martin real name Mary, a character harkening way back to the first issues of Hellblazer, has been a good addition and Perrineau as Manny, John's "guardian angel" also brings a lot to the table.

The best aspect, however, of the show is Matt Ryan. He is John Constantine, from the clothes, to the attitude, to the accent, he's nailed it. And surprisingly, they've worked John's smoking into the show. Every episode since the pilot he's done a little more with this beloved coffin nails and until he's actually smoking. (Its a dangerous and stupid habit, but Constantine without his cigs is like Batman without his cape.)

So if you want the show to survive, watch it live, on line or DVR it because NBC is paying attention.
