Hi,

I've been merrily ripping CDs with the latest version of EAC under Windows 8.1 with the occasional Cygwin error message, but it still worked.

Today, from one CD to another, it stopped. The option to read images won't even open in EAC any more, logs can also no longer be created when using the file-by-file extraction. EAC has become useless.

I tried various solutions I found under the web, namely replacing the cygwin1.dll version in the CDRDAO folder of EAC, and updating the same file in the Windows folder with a fresh installation from the Cygwin homepage.

None of this worked. Reinstalling EAC also leads nowehere.

What the hell could this be?

Suggestions welcome. Thanks in advance.

Cheers, wimpel69

I even re-installed EAC without the CDRDAO component, so there is no longer a Cygin1.dll under EAC.

Still doesn't work. The rip image window won't even open.

A google leads to HydrogenAudio forums with something of relevance.

EAC won't open on Win8 x64: Access Violation error - Hydrogenaudio Forums (http://www.hydrogenaud.io/forums/index.php?showtopic=99886&view=findpost&p=827380)

If that's not the issue, then join that thread, anyway, and maybe someone will jump in.

not compatible with WIN7 64bit
I think the project is the thing of the past, I liked it but is obsolete for good [or bad]

But there is no alternative on Windows as far as secure rips WITH log files is concerned.

I ran EAC on two other Windows systems, Vista 32b and Win7 32 - On the first one, it had worked in the past - stopped working now, too - same issues - on the latter a fresh EAC first install, also does not work. How is this possible????

On my 8.1 64bit it worked for months, then stopped within (!!!) a session!????

EAC works on Win7 x64. I've had zero issues with it.

You guys make sure to download from this mirror and not official website?
EAC official website is known to get hacked and taken over by malicious ads about drugs.

Exact Audio Copy 1.0 beta 3 (http://www.videohelp.com/tools/Exact-Audio-Copy)

Make sure to run everything as "administrator" or disable UAC?

I found the solution. It was the CD!!!

After I tested the EAC on three different PCs, and it didn't work on any of them any more, I only realized a while later that I had done it with the same CD. Never before had EAC not worked with a certain CD. It must have blocked something in EAC.

Even more bizarrely(!), it was a CD of a 2-CD set (Carlisle Floyd's opera Of Mice and Men), and the first CD of HAD WORKED! Unbelievable.

Now everything's back to normal ...

I have moved to dBpoweramp entirely now - EAC development is dead, EAC is at the very least finnicky on 64-bit systems and gets mighty-confused if you have more than one CD drive on one SATA controller. Additionally, dBp is now the superior ripper. It even does LOG files - granted, the LOG files will fail the automated (and deeply patronising) auto log-checkers so beloved of private trackers, but it still does them...

Glad you got it working, though! :)

FYI, a fourth beta of EAC was finally released on December 18. Download Exact Audio Copy (http://www.exactaudiocopy.de/en/index.php/resources/download/)

If you're willing to shovel out some money for dbpoweramp, I recommend it over everything else.
