My friend evok introduced me to these folks, a lil finnish band called Nightwish. their songs are english, sort of hard rock/symphony. very epic, i recommend you look em up if they sound like they might strike your fancy. now i sleep.

i do occasionally note a bit of evanesence-i-ness to them, but after researching the band a bit, they've been around too long to be playing copycat. Their tunes are much more classically influenced, from what i've heard. Alas, i've only heard about 5 songs though. anyhow, to each his own, i personally find them excellent inspiration when i'm in the mood to imagine some of my characters kicking ass >:)

Actually back when I played FFXI it was my favorite music to listen to while doing so. I give them the thumbs up all around.

I don't mean they're copying evanescence....just they're starting to become as popular as them, which means they appear regularly in kerrang and all the 'smash hits' rock/metal fans love them dearly!

Well, they got very famous over here. But I haven't heard anything of them yet. But I want to, because people told me, they make good music. :rolleyes:

Think opera lady who always goes off on one, metally guitar sounds and the odd keyboard (which is always nice =) )...they're an extremely averange band which have been adopted by kerrang and HMV and are what all the little 'goths' now love and think they're cool for liking! Grrrrr!!!!

I went and saw 'em live like 3 weeks ago... phenomenal show. Going to see them again in May next year.

the musical styles are totally different, plus nightwish are not a christian "metal" band that changed their style to get popular. and also, nightwish have been around faaaarrrrr longer than evanescence, so how can they be the new evanescence?

yes...i like nightwish a lot, actually seeing the again in march...if i am in the UK at least. I remember the good old angels fall first days :-P
i think the annette years will be good ones though, Tarjas personal agent poisoned her with delusions of Grandia, but annette started in a smaller band and so i can't see her falling into the same trap :)

Ah, Nightwish is one of my favorite Bands! I especially love 'She Is My Sin'
It's the first song I heard from them, and I fell in love with it.
Too bad Tarja left Nightwish:( , I hate the new singer...

The new singer does alright. Shes nothing like Tarja though. anyway, yeah Nightwish have some decent riffs/solos. I think Nightwish is a little over-rated but a decent group none the less.

Anette just has a different style from Tarja, that's all. Funny how most of Tarja's fans seem to think that Annette is terrible and vice versa. I haven't really seen anyone who appreciates both. Not sure if its blind fanboyism at its best lol. IMO I think that both of them are good, give Anette some time to get herself into the rhythm that Nightwish has always had and she'll be equally good, or better than Tarja at least.

I've gotten tired of the whole Anette vs. Tarja business. Tarja has an amazing voice and all - but sometimes I feel its a bit over done. Anette too has a nice voice, not as strong as Tarja's on stage, but her presence is fresh and fits well with the band.

I got tired of Nightwish though. A friend of mine got so obsessed and started following the band around and they just became very overrated since then. They aren't the most spectacular band to ever play, they aren't bad either. There is better, thats all.

..Moondance is nonetheless still a great song to dance to. :*

Ghost Love Score is the one song I absolutely love.

I seen them live a few years back even bought their cd Once as an import before the US release.

Tarja's vocal style was too opera-like for me to handle.

Thou I hear there's been some trouble with Anette lately.
Like she ran off stage crying during a gig, sometimes seeming distant from the rest of the band during performances and getting her own personal manager (jus like Tarja had).
Makes you wonder how long she'll stay.
