There's a big surprise...

I really saw that comming, since he wanted to stop making music after FFVIII. That however still has me surprised he stopped completly. I knew he'd stop music for the FF series and such but I always thought he'd be a part of Square Enix.

I'm not all that shocked though.

FFX-2 says otherwise, he didn't make music for it if I recall correctly.

Bad example, but your point is proven by other Final Fantasies, and Square Games - Kingdom Hearts, love it or hate it, had excellent music and wasn't created by Uematsu. Final Fantasy X also had four composers, so Uematsu wasn't the only one contributing to that.

Final Fantasy Tactics Advance had excellent FF music, and Uematsu didn't work on that project either.

Nobuo Uematsu's official fan club has confirmed this report, saying that Uematsu will leave Square Enix this month and join a company named "Smile Please" in November. Uetmasu said that he would not want to call this "quitting," as that term is too extreme. Rather, it is akin to graduating from the company. His reason for leaving is to pursue work at his own pace. He plans to continue his work in writing game music, performing in concerts, and producing the upcoming second Black Mages album. He is also planning other activities outside of Japan as well.

Meh.... I say good bye and good luck. There are better music artists out there.

Sad that he's leaving, yes indeed, but there are some other lovely composers out there. Gaming composers are some of the most underrated musicians today, and there's no shortage of them. I can totally understand why one wouldn't want to be identified solely with video games. Look at yasunori mitsuda, he jacked out the best tunes Square ever published with Chrono Cross, i'm sure they'll still give us something to jam to :)

One person on a forum says nobuo uematsu has left and you belive it?

I shall wait until another person in the population of 6 billion confirms this, and then I will consider being sad at this news.

*Edit* Damn you google news! Fine...I belive he is leaving now..I shall sit in a corner and weep :-(

I've heard that Nobuo wasn't doing the music to FF-X2, or maybe only a little part in it.... That could be the reason why it sounds differently. :(

The music of FFX-2 was done by Noriko Matsueda, who also did the music for The Bouncer, Bahamut Lagoon (never released in the US but great game) and worked partly with Nobuo and Yasunori Mitsuda in Chrono Trigger.

It's sad for me :( This will forever change final fantasy, in my opinion, for the worst. I didn't think he did the music for X-2.

Oh man. Bad, bad. I just purchased the Final Fantasy X International Soundtrack, now I think I'm going to have to purchase at least one more. Maybe that new one with the Yuffie's Theme vocal piece and such.

And, yes, that's correct. He didn't do the music for FFX-2 - but, hey, I rather liked most of FFX-2's music.

Thanks for the informations. I kinda knew, Nobuo didn't make the music to FF-X2, but I didn't know who else had made it. :)

I definitely agree with this. Uematsu's a superb composer and will always be loved by many, and we cant blame him if he wanted to try other companies, maybe he just wants to try something different. And Senji, you're soo right when u said that yasunori mitsuda did the best square tunes ever. I also think Chrono Cross' music was the most beautiful.

I don't know about you, but I feel the need to scream out "Nooooo! Boooooo!" ...Okay, that was the lamest pun ever. But now who's gonna compose the music for all the FFVII sequels coming out? Actually, I think the guy who did all the FFT music was pretty good, but still... who's gonna give us our next "One Winged Angel"?

What we need is someone who is equally as good, if not better, than Nobuo. I could swear, nobody could compose such classic FF music like he could. It almost shatters me completely.

I admit there were some times when I didn't like his music, to tell the truth I disliked pretty much every song in FFVIII except for Liberi Fatali and Mods de Chocobo.

Last I Heard on this was. Uematsu has left Squre-enix to form his own company (smile i think) but he would continue to assisst in the creation of FF music ( just in a diminished role, so he could work to his own time frame) . Problem is i cant remember where i read it ( I think it was the Nobuo Uematsu Tribute site or something) Still, artists come artists go, it will be interesting to see (or should that be hear) what the next main composer can create

First made me sad. Then made me: "I understand that guy." I support his idea.
As long as hell be there next year at the CG-concert so I can worship him Im satisfied.
And to me this whole: "I will miss him dearly!" sounds like hes dead!! U_U
And there is no prove that FF-music is going to be bad now. The FF:U soundtrack was wonderful. I am sure they will go on doing there Victory fanfare till Doomsday. And the Chocobo theme and the Moogle theme and... *blh* I=3

I am reeeally excited whos going to make the ney FF-music. Whooo~ Composer of Final Fantasy... thats a title to live up to. Really!
Theyll make it good. Those Japanese composers are far better than any other! *coughs-yes-there-are-also-great-ones-from-other-countries-cough*

It isn't that bad. Just think about it the people that have worked on FF games in the past won't have all made all of the FF games. And there's a good point been made before, Uematsu hasn't worked on all of the FF games anyway. So it isn't that bad, i mean they are hardly going to employ a new guy that makes radically different music to what you usually find in an FF game, it would hit sales.

It is a pity indeed, but we must respect his decision. Perhaps Nobuo is destined for far greater things (Though I don't know what could be better than doing what you love for one of the greatest video game franchises ever), and when it comes, we will look back and say "Yeah, I remember that guy! He's a brilliant composer!" So let us hope that Nobuo's departure from Square leads him down a path of even more fame and success.
