The first project is a two-classroom expansion of its school in Bois Negresse. The second is a church to replace the one lost in

the 2010 earthquake in Hesse. The final project is relocating the Faith Children’s Home in Carrefour.

These three projects are under way, but create a challenge for the Star of Hope Haiti staff.

The Bois Negresse School is adding two new classrooms for grades one and two. This is the first phase of what will eventually

become three structures, each housing two 400-square-foot classrooms. The cost of each addition is $38,000.

The first two rooms have been funded by a town in Sweden. A group of young people there have taken on the project to raise funds

and send teams to share in the work and the joy.

Bois Negresse is nestled high in the mountains, southeast of Port-au-Prince. With few income-generating opportunities, the people

live a simple life; however, they want more for their children. Sponsors help make this school successful by providing access to

education.

Hesse, high in the mountains southwest of Port-au-Prince, was the epi-center of the 2010 earthquake. The church that anchored the

town was destroyed and since then people have met to worship in the school grounds under a tarp. A single donor family in Great

Bend, Kan., has provided funds for a new church. The work is under way and is expected to be completed by end of May. Additional

funding is being sought to supply new benches and furniture for the congregation.

Construction is set to begin on the first of four family-style housing units for the new Faith Children’s Home, located in

Carrefour and home to about 125 children. Each unit will be house up to 20 children cared for by house parents. Additional

buildings for dining and administration are planned.

The facility is on property not owned by Faith Children’s Home and the landowners have asked the home to move. Land obtained from

the Haitian government has been procured and electric service is now available. Excavation work preparing the site has been

completed.

This project is being funded by a group of organizations including Brent Scarbrough Inc., New Hope Church and Tunnel to Towers

Foundation. This project will need $750,000 to finish the building complex.

Additional funding is needed to assure a timely completion of the project and to provide beds and furniture for the children.
