Hiya !

Today I had what may have been my luckiest day playing FFXI, but I may have also have gotten my reputation greatly tarnished.

So, I'm going to tell the whole story. Feel free to comment on it, if you will.

For your references, this happened on Cerberus, so all the people named there are from this server.

This afternoon, I told my High-Level LS, LightofVanadiel, that I was going coffer key hunting in Beadeaux, to get my Gallant Breeches, along my friend Rockfist (58 BST), from Lacasteoubliee, my Quebec LS. So, Ayko (65 THF), the LS leader, told me she'd come with Zanji (66 PLD, but came as 57 RNG) and Kinsen (58 RDM) to also help my old buddy Cayo (59WHM) who also needed the key.

So at 7 PM EST, we left for Beadeaux.

While we were fighting, a scroll of Flood, a level 58 Black Magic, dropped from a Sapphire Quadav.

Everybody on the party said "Bah, this is worth only 5k", so nobody dropped nor passed, and I ended up with it. I did send a tell to Typo, asking him, and he confirmed this wasn't worth much.Still, it was a free 5k , or so we all had believed then. Things weren't starting too bad.

So a bit later, still no key drop, but a Darksteel Quadav dropped the Paladin's Testimony, the key item I need to do Genkai V. Since I was the only Paladin, they let me have it. In short, I ended up with an item I'm not even supposed to have for a while...

In the meantime, I warned Rockfist to tell me when Mihmendra, the leader of Lacasteoubliee and a 54BLM, would be online, as I would tell her I'd send her the scroll. At that time, everybody said "Hey, nice of you"

After 3 hours of fighting and still no drop, one key finally dropped...Since Rockfist, Cayo and I all needed it , we end up lotting, and I get a 900...One key for me, only one to go on the way of getting all my AF pieces. My luck's going quite good so far.

A few minutes later, a second key drops, Cayo wins the lot. This would be all that we would get, Rockfist didn't get his key.

But then it happened, Mihmendra finally came online. So when I tell her I'd give her the Flood scroll , she told me :

"Evad, that scroll is actually worth 140k"

... !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Out of shock, I tell the whole story to my party, and to Typo, they hardly could believe it. When I came back to Jeuno to check, it INDEED was worth 140k, but everyone confirmed to me it was worth 5k a mere month ago.

A few minutes later, when we're over, Cayo teleports Ayko, Kinsen and Brujeria (60MNK, who came to replace Zanji, since he DCed) to Altep. I remain behind to look for the coffer.

...And there it was, right next to where we camped. So I open it, but in doing so, I aggro a Sapphire Quadav. Therefore, I hit Invincible, equip my Trick Staff II, and 30 seconds later, I warped. It was bye-bye, Beadeaux.

So, in short, I got a coffer key, my Paladin Testimony, my AF legs, and 140k...

That pissed Ayko a bit. She told me she'd think about it twice before helping me again. Then I asked her why and she said that normally, when you are being helped for such a thing, you're not supposed to get the drops.

While I perfectly understood her point, I told her that nobody wanted it, heck, I didn't even lot for it, we ALL believe it was worth only 5k, that I ended up with it JUST BECAUSE NOBODY WANTED IT. I reminded her I was even going to GIVE the darn scroll.

So then I said that of course, if I had known how much it was worth, I would have NEVER let myself have it, I would have passed.

So then I offered to split the profits, since it was a common mistake and all from everyone, I said that I may have been very lucky, but that I am not to blame, either.

In the end, she said it wasn't really worth it, that I should enjoy my superb stroke of luck, but that she'll be wiser next time ; ;

...

What would you have done ? I truly believe I am not to blame in this story, but still I feel kind of bad.

Sounds to me like they just got jealous - honestly, you offered to share the profits, so they can't complain.

Was it only Ayko who was upset, or were other members p'oed as well? If it's only her, maybe you can buy her something with the money you would have given her as a peace offering.

I agree that it's not your fault, though.

Most of my afternoon was unlucky trying to find a party in the Dunes that was good. Til I struck gold and got a full party and a 55WHM who decided to power lvl the party. 120-214 exp per battle and ended up going up 3 lvls. o.o

Anyway...

I do agree with Lee. You were very lucky and they got jealous. Not much else to say about that.

The solution?

Go as the party again, and camp Sapphire Quadavs.

split the profits, that's 23,333g for each person per flood that drops.
pretty good income, depending on the drop rate.

Just make sure not to flood the market!

You sure Ayko wasn't joking ?:3 Typo jokingly hates on lucky people, as you might know. ;3

Also, Mihmendra ish a sexycat that tastes like banana. ^^

Well, honestly, no, I'm not sure, it's hard to tell if she jokes or not, I haven't been a member of this LS for so long, merely a month, unlike you who I've know for years with FFShrine. But from what I've seen of her, it's hardly believable she'd really take offense, but still...

O_o

Don't compare Mihm to a banana :p

EDIT : That reminds me... Beadeaux is probably the motherlode for me. Last time I went there, it was to help someone from Cayo's other LS , who wanted to do Mission 3-2 for Bastok, the one where you have to kill 20 Copper Quadavs, I can't remember the guy's name, but he was a Male Hume Ranger, level 32 or so.

Anyway, while we were waiting on Copper Quadavs to respawn ( a 50 PLD and 52 WHM truly make short work of those ), I provoked an Ooze out of boredom...and it dropped a Dodge Earring. We lot...you know what happened :p That was another 50k in my pockets.

Interesting. One of my friends has taken down Valkrum Emp, like 8 times and got almost a drop EVERY time. Beware the lvl 70 SAM/RNG. People think he's a gil-seller because it was out there every day for almost 3 months now when not in a pt.

Beadeaux is loaded, but the gil-sellers camp ooze and its hard for me to solo quadavs that drop good stuff without links. There is a better place. If you know where Orcs drop Asborb-DEX you are in the money, but I hate getting a tele and hiking it. Some of them drop around 1/30th of the time. Its amazing how lucky I have been some times, I am just waiting for my 3 Kor-i-noors to arrive, I picked up 3 sparkling stones in dynamis and I just know that taru crafter friend of mine will HQ3 one of them.

OMG, that is pure envy, I say.

I think people should not be like that, and a person non-noob would not do that. They instead had to congratulate you for the good luck, and that is all. ^^
You got the drop, it is not your fault. You was even too generous offering to share the profits. Others would not do that, trust me. I would have been you I'd be very angry with that person and may even not forgive for such behavior.

That is not a behavior a mature person wouldtake. It is a kid's way to act. Sorry if I come to offend someone, that is not the point :/

Bah, as I said, she apologized later, and it's all behind us now. I guess she probably was blaming her own ignorance back then. It did kind of come as a surprise to us all, after all.
