"Poltergeist III" had a very creepy score written by composer Joe Renzetti ("Child's Play"). In it, he did a good job of giving the highrise setting a cold, disturbing atmosphere. He also gave new themes to both Carol Anne and the Rev. Kane. However, many people have faulted the movie for the fact that Jerry Goldsmith was not hired to write the score. Jerry wrote very memorable scores for the first two "Poltergeist" movies (he got an Oscar nomination for the original, which he lost to John Williams' "E.T." score in 1982).
Although there was an Internet rumor that Jerry was originally contracted to score this film but quit due to budget cuts (and then supposedly used his "unused" P3 score later in 1999's "The Haunting"), this rumor is untrue. Goldsmith was unhappy with the results of "Poltergeist II," and thus did not have an interest in doing the third film. Also, it's clear that MGM did not want to spend the extra money they knew it would cost to hire Mr. Goldsmith, considering that "Poltergeist III" was being made on a lower budget than the last film.

You have GOT to be kidding me!!!! I've seen some interesting posts on this site over the last few years but this one definitely takes the cake. I remember watching Poltergeist III in theaters when it was released and even a score by Goldsmith would do very little to help this terrible film.

I can't even imagine how awesome a Goldsmith Titanic score would have been.

Lovely quote.

Dont want to be a grammar / spelling Nazi... but its all wrong. I didnt know that wrotte was a word... so let me correct that (should I do an error, feel free to correct me):

"These three tracks, previously written for Poltergeist III, have been recorded and used by Mr. Goldsmith for the motion picture The Haunting, as demanded by its director Jan DeBont. Initially, they were composed in 1988 for Poltergeist III. However, they werent used until 1999 when they were included in DeBont's movie. These tracks were taken from the scoring sessions for The Haunting (they arent available on the Varese release)."

Its still all bullshit. Goldsmith never worked on Poltergeist III and Jan DeBont never asked for them (Hello? Which director would do that even if they would exist?). The three tracks come from 'The Haunting' and 'Poltergeist 2'. Besides, they are of course available on all official releases.

But I assume that this happens when someone posts something for the sake of creating an archive without any real interest in the compositions themselves.

No he's really not. He is a re-poster of great poster, and a large reason many of the folks who USED to be great posters have stopped sharing. He is a cancer that needs to be killed with fire.

Well, I feel a bit of a t*t thinking this was the unused score for P3.... but I am rather glad I found these tracks anyway as they are still quintessential Goldsmith... are they really from 'The haunting'? And if so, can I get that OST here?

That's nothing. Just look at some of the forum sub-headings which have been on the pages for a few years at least :

So, rape is an A-OK joking topic here at the forum and junior high school level homophobia humor is encouraged. See?

As it always has been, and always will be. In mt case, kill it with fire is hyperbole. Gweggy should be a wee bit familiar. He of the I am gone forever, I am back, banned, back leaving back going tirades.....

Those threads you mention are older? But regardless are posted in General Discussion where things are a tad loser as far as content.

But yes, both sir wee one and tap need to be removed and the wound cauterized. Absolutely. :)

See lil willy, my wee brain can post things just as rediculous and inflammatory as you.

How can it be fake?
The man explained it in his later post.
The three music sheets were previously written for 'Poltergeist III' but were recorded and reused by Jerry Goldsmith for Jan De Bont's motion picture 'The Haunting'.
The sheets were written in 1989 for 'Poltergeist' and only recorded in 2002 for the De Bont film. The music is from 'The Haunting' scoring session and were not on the Varese release.
If the producers of 'Poltergeist III' did not have such a low budget for the film perhaps they could have hired Goldsmith to use the music for it instead of 'The Haunting'.

Petros already explained it. Goldsmith was never attached to Poltergeist III. Period. This rumor just needs to die. Think about it logically - how would they have the budget to have Goldsmith record the score, which is, you know, the part that actually costs money, but then have it rescored to save money? It's a stupid internet rumor that the score for The Haunting started off as music written for Poltergeist III, and there's absolutely no basis for that idea.
