I use Squall, Rinoa and Irvine because I find their limit breaks to be the most powerful/useful.

My team squall,rinoa,irvine

mine was squall, rinoa, and zell i changed it around alot but this team was most used

mine was:
squall - with his almighty renzokuken
rinoa - with her little less mighty wishing star, invincible moon
quistis - allways as a healing member

I tried to mix mine up a lot, to keep everyone at the same level (obviously, see other thread), but preferably id have to say

Squall; You have to have him
Qusitis; Diva-magica, healing and offensive
Zell; Items, and general bludgening of enemies to death

Sometimes I switched Selphie with Quistis

Squall - my strongest character. his limit breaks are the best. plus, you really can't choose other wise

Rinoa - second strongest chracter. plus i like to have the hero&heroine together. her limit breaks rule

Squall - You had to have him and he could do Lionheart and other cool stuff.

Selphie - Her Strange Vision has 255 accuracy. And I just really liked her.

Sometimes I would switch in Zell, and occasiionally Quistis. I hardly ever used Rinoa.

Squall- Well you can't change him, but he still has an awesome Limit Break!

Zell- My old one, he just was like a kamaz for me, and extra :P

But now I changed from Zell to Quistis since now that I have Shockwave Pulsar, Omega Weapon didn't last quite long ^_^

Well you cann't change Squall but the other two have got super powered limit breaks, though i never use Rinoas "Angelo", anybody heard of the meteor trick? :angel:

I used everybody to level them up equally. But my team that I used the most was:

Squall: leader and his Rezouken limit

Rinoa: Wishing Star and Invinceable Moon helped out alot .

Zell: I'm pretty skilled at button combos so he was easy to use, plus I used the Meteor Barret alot, and did My Final Heaven a few times too.

Squall: his renzokuken kicks arse
Rinoa: she is cool and has a dog that does stuff
Zell/Irvine: Zell mainly for his strength and his Duel is fun and Irvine shot is great plus i like Irvine he has such a baby face!

mine was really Squall, selphie and zell their just great as a team but the problem was other members hardly got levels up so my main three were like level 95-98 while others where 20 so beating ultimecia's gonna be pretty difficult!

Squall - Lionheart limit very useful
Rinoa - Yes i use the Meteor trick :-D
Zell - fast hands and his limt does more than lionheart :-D

Squall - Can't do much 'bout that one

Zell - His limit breaks really helped me out, and his compatability with GF's with important commands

Rinoa - What can I say, Magic, Physical Attacks, GF's She does it all. Plus Angelo helped me out randomly when I looked doomed.

Squall - simply the coolest guy in FFVIII

Selphie - a member for healing and her limits allow me to use any magic in the game - I like this party

My most common team was: Squall, Quistis, and Selphie. I'd probably have switched Squall out for someone else, maybe Zell, if I could've gotten rid of the guy. I had Selphie have Refresh or whatever it was that healed people and Revive.

I switched Quistis and Selphie for someone else every now and again for levelling, but I really didn't like using Rinoa or Irvine much.

I always used Squall Rhinoa and Quistis. I couldn't stand Zell--Irvine had the weakest weapon of all time.. I loved Squall! He kicked butt! And Quistis always healed my peeps.

I used Squall, Irvine, and Zell, I ain't sexist, but this was the best team for me. I used Irvine's Pulse Shot ammo on the final boss and she was gone real fast, did about 100 shots in all, before she went down, at least it seems like that many shots...

Rinoa- her angelo cannon alone had a 9999 attack at level 79! plus he weapon looked awesome, and her angel wing limit break was pretty good.

Selphie- with 'The End' magic, 'Full Cure' and 'Wall' she was the best limit break user, she was more of my sage and did a lot of magic work. Selphie came in handy when it came to speed, she ended up being my fastest and most reliable character to draw from enemies.

Squall- His lionheart limit break was great! but I was able to get Blasting Zone often and it did a pretty good amount of damage. Not to mention you get pretty powerful hits from squall as soon as you get the cutting trigger..

I sometimes switched Quistis in for Rinoa, Especially in Disk 3. Her Shockwave Pulsar was the most amazing limit break ive seen, also the strongest from my characters.
I couldnt use Irvine, I hate the use of guns, Zell used to be my strongest character, but I was never able to get all the magazines for his limit breaks so I never had the 'My Final Heaven' limit break.

Squall - meh
Selphie - I like trains?
Irvine or Riona- Irvine for his limit or Riona for her high mag. and str. (highest in game unaltered at lv. 99)

the third character was never for certain.... either Rinoa, Zell or Quistis. Don't think I used Irvine much.

squall -- err, obviously.

selphie -- because she has full cure and the end. i didn't use the end in my second game, though. ultimecia was a piece of cake. also, because she's my favourite character, aside from edea and squall.

irvine -- the first time i used zell, but the second time i used irvine, simply because zell's limit break is lame. pulse ammo did about 5000-6000 damage on ultimecia. each bullet.

Rinoa - She's a good magic user, she can draw higher amounts of magic then the others.

Quistis - Blue Magic.

i give all the curing abilites (recover, treatment, and revive) to Zell cuz he's the weakest, then i give the strength to Rinoa cuz she is the strongest and then squall gets the left-overs

My team consisted of
Squall: Personally he's the best character in all of Final Fantasy and his LionHeart did 9999 damage (well at least for me since he was lvl 99)
Rinoa: She was really good with the magic and she did really good with the GF's(she was also lvl 99)
Irvine:His limit breaks did some massive damage 9999 to be exact especially with the pulse ammo (bet you can't guess yep he too was lvl 99)

Well once in a while I'd switch Irvine for Quistis or Selphie but i never used Zell (maybe thats why he was only lvl 10 hehehe)

Squall Zell and Quistis. This was the first game where i actually maxed out a players stats. But only Squall and Zell were maxed out. I used Quistis for her Blue Magic.

Got my main party to all LV. 100 today, *(clap clap)*, and all I need is 4 god dang dragons fangs for all ultimate weapons for em! Is the only way to get them from the blue dragons in hell, cuz I was tryin for a looong time and all I ever got was fury fragments. I have rare item equipped too. Help!

Hmm, try taking Rare Item off instead. You might also need to mess around with their levels using Tonberry. Have you tried mugging them also?

Okay, the guide I'm looking at says that you need to defeat a medium-level Ruby or Blue Dragon. So try lowering the level.

Yea I just looked at GameFAQs and it said use LV down on em, so probably get em down to 50 or so. Yea Ive tried mugging them too. Thanks. Oh the woes of this system....what ever happened to just buying weapons...oh wait that doesnt start until later games huh?

Squall : Limit Break can do 250 000+ (Lion Heart)
Rinoa : how abou Angelo Reverse Power ? it gets a KO's character back for free... Allow me to mention Invincible Moon, which is equal to a Holy War, the most powerful item in the game. And PLEASE think of Wishing Star which does 40 000+. Any reasons NOT to use her ??? Didn't think so
Selphie : Full-cure, The End .. what do you need more ?

I have to add that is my party for the big boss fights like Ultima (easy one) and Omega Weapon (the little harder one)
If I go to fight some monsters I use Quistis with Degenerator ...


-Dragons Fangs : Rare Item OFF, lower your Luck and go for a Blue Dragon ..
I got my party waaaaay long into LV 100 and I got lots of dragon fangs from 'em .. keep trying ..

Quistis Initiative and Limit Break Degenerator works quite well...
otherwise Junction to St-Def 100 Berserks, 100 Silence, 100 Confuse, 100 Sleep .. it'll work out ..
(actually I did 100 Esuna, 100 Pain, 100 Holy and 100 Reflect .. Which gives you auto 100 % to Silence and others .. Berserk on Squall doesn't matter to me .. 15 hits of 9999 damage kills it and since I had Auto-Haste i could do it before my timer ran out ..

I didn't try but I do know that Rinoa with Wishing Star gives punches of 7 000+, that a few times netting 50 000+ dmge, yeah I know not every time is a Wishing Star, but during Omega Weapon Battle, a lot ..

Squall,Irvine,zell with manditory 255 str.triple aura,refined bahamut card(100 megalixers),beat the boss to death!and lionheart=finish of a limit break with 17 concecutive hits at 9999 each you do the math!

if you use selphie and "the end" you are lame it takes the fun out of it why not just cheat if you dont care about playing and just want to win(morons!)

Sorry if I shouldnt say this, but thanks to the people who helped me with the dragon fangs, I got em and Lion Heart, but the limit hasnt happened yet. So now my starting party is all 100, ultimate weapons, and all GFs except Siren cuz I didnt know to draw it! And Squall gets about 4 hits in before one other member gets a turn due to auto-haste, spd+40 and 100 hastes equiped on speed!

BTW Rikkuslover16 you can get Siren if you draw it from Tri Point in ultimercia castle. my party was squall, rinoa and selphie

Squall, Zell, and Selphie. Squall and Zell beat down the enemy, whilst Selphie casts support spells. If Squall and Zell have Aura, I just have her use Holy and Flare, maybe Meteor.

Irvine - For me his normal attacks were strogn and his limits are cool especially when u have pulse ammo.

Squall - Well, for obvious reasons.
Zell - Strong, strong lad he is.
Selphie - Her limit breaks proved to be useful a lot of the time, so I kept her in my team.
Quistis - I like her final weapon and her limit breaks were pretty cool.

Through the game it's usually Squall, Irvine and Quistis, but once I get to Ulti's Castle, I replace Squall with either Selphie or Zell. It's not that I don't like Squall, I just try to use my favourite characters as much as I can.

Squall (Lion Heart kicks ass, but not as much as Omnislash, mind you! ;)), Quistis (for her blue magic limit breaks; White Wind, Mighty Guard, Shockwave Pulsar), and Zell (for the devastating combos in his limit breaks... When I manage to pull them off, anyway!).

Squall (lionheart does the trick)
Rinoa (Sorceress powers and she is compatible with most GF's and, the way i made her atleast, a magical powerhouse)
Irvine (good basic gun strength, i have a large selection of bullets, and who doesn't love a southern gentleman... i mean besides ulyses s grant ;))

Zell-dual small moves can go pretty much infinately
Irvine-Shots were taking off around 8000 per hit

Squall- i would have him even if u didnt have to.
Irvine- His shots r very powerfull.
Quistis- Simple, her limit move Degenerator, kills almost every bad guy in 1 hit.
Training is never easyier or quicker thx 2 her:)

Selphie - her limit break, Rapture, and if possibly, The End...
Quistis - her cool move called Degenerator
with this party, i was able to level up very quick...

my first party was squall quistis zell my second was squall selphie rinoa and my third party was squall not the best but full hit rate irvine cos i could use 100 fast ammo pretty much every limit and selphie cos she had a full hit rate which meant i could use triple and pain for others i only swapped my players one at a time for gf leveling up and to learn gf abilities

rinoa-so she could use magic
1stgame-quistis-for her limits
2ndgame-zell-cause hes the man

I had my teams broken down into 2 teams with 3 categories within each team.


1- Pure Physical fighter
2- Pure Magical Character
3- Hybrid Character/Support


I had Squall and Zell as my fighters, Rinoa and Quistis as my magic casters, and Irvine and Selphie as my hybrid characters.

The team I took to to Ultimecia the very first time was Irvine, Rinoa and Squall

squall-strong ass lmits(main attacker)
rinoa-great limits(healer)
zell-really good lmits(attacker,item user)

Squall-No real choice
Selphie-Best magic user and most of the GFs were compatible with her
Irvine-My second favorite character :)

Squall : my Fave character + insane limits

Zell: cool limits and I loved his personality.

Rinoa: Good magic user, very compatible with most GF's and of course kind and Beautiful.

Sometimes I switch in Irvine in place of Zell

I always build up my three fav characters

Squall, Rinoa and Zell.

and i choose Zell because i like his limit breaks.

Irvine - No alot of people like Irvine, but i think he's cool! i think he has some very handy limit breaks!

Mine was and still is: Squall: Fighting Ass kicking Guy, Rinoa: Recovery, Limit break, and fighting, and Selphie: Limit Break, and fighting almost as good as squall with some commands and with Ifrit junctioned

I havn't played in a while so it's hard to remember. I don't use anyone imperticular when training or anything. But i know my sister loves using Quistis for training on the island closest to hell becuase she knows degenerater or what ever it's called so she beats everything in like one shot and gets heaps of exp. For example she has so much trouble beating Malbaro but now they are so easy for her.

i've already forgot about it, but of course squall is in the team, he has a awsome attack!!!!!!!!! oh yeah, and the gunblade, it's cooll!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I tend to keep all my charactor at the same level, all the way up to level 100. But when it comes to the final bos, ultimate wepion and omaga wepion ill use:

Mostly because of thier limit breaks. Squall i dont have to say anything about. Quistis can be handy with white wind, mighty gard, and shockwave pulsar. With zell all you have to do is up his stats a little with some items and be quick with the buttons and he can do a lot of damage.

my team would be squall becasue his limit and attack is very strong, and he can't be cancel, rinoa because of her limit and attack, and Zell because of his limit and the attack so most of the chracter that I choose to be in the team is because of the attack and the limit

Squall-on the battlefield also known as death incarnate, insanely powerful.

Zell-Good limit break, but I mainly used him because he had full compatibility w/my lvl 100 cactaur gf. He rarely did anything else but summon cactaur and do his limit break.

Hah,I think Selphie still got 500 hp or so.I havent used her much except for the beginning of the game.

I played through the game with everyone trying to level them up, but in the last battle, Squall, Irvine, and Zell were my highest level characters, and luckily Ultimecia picked all three of them for that last battle. :)

quistis-what can I say?-in my opinion,she has the 2nd best limit break in the
whole game.Her Blue magic spell "bad breath" causes tremendous stats
change to the enemy giving your team a great advantage.Her "degenerator
skill imediately removes an enemy which is fantastic when gaining levels on
islands closest to heaven and hell.Her "mighty guard" is ultra kewl!!!!-giving
your team positive stats change (exceptionally berserk in some cases),this will help when fighting bosses.Your team will gain a range of stats change from Aura,protect,shell,reflect,float,hp regain(lol-cant remember that spell) etc etc.And her Blue magic skill "shockwave pulsar" is one of 3 only attacks that cause over 9999 damage.Obviously,she would have to be one of the best characters to impliment into use.YAY!

Squall=lvl99 with Lionheart, casting Aura and laying the smackdown on Ultimecia, which by the way can reach 9999
Irvine= lvl99 Pulse and AP ammo=9999 damage
Zell= lvl99 his limit breaks take me back to multi-hit combos of the Tekken era

I've laid the samckdown on Ultimecia easily. Now I just try to see what Eden does at lvl99, all other GFs are lvl99 or close

All the time when I play FFVIII I always use the same party. I'm not sure why, but they just slip into place without me noticing. I use:
Squall - Obvious reasons
Rinoa - Magic caster person thingy (I trained her up loads to get stuff and ANGEL WIG!!!)
Irvine - He is powerful with the right Shot ammo.

To me, these characters kinda fall into place with each other, as you have to use them in the important bits in the game, like in the clock tower before the end of disc one, and at Galbadia garden in the end of disc 2 (actually I'm not sure if you have to use them there; don't hate me!), and loadsa other places.

i don't use Zell either, he is too weak...and he's limit's are nothing special i prefer using Rinoa, she has better GF compatibility and has better limit's like invincible moon

Yeah but Zell has much better strength and not all of Rinoas Limit breaks are good, and i really cant be stuffed walking like 20k just to get a new ability for her lol.

squall - not really an option, but i do really like his limit break. probably one of my all time favourites

rinoa - also has a great limit break and always seems to get stronger than a motherfucker on my games. also kind of fits in with the storyline to have squall and rinoa together

irvine - easiest limit break ever that can do a good amount of damage

guess this is mostly based on limit breaks since none of the characters really have any distinguishable jobs/classes or anything.

also i'll throw in why i didnt use the others often:

zell - im shit at duel

quistis - dunno just never really clicked with her in battling. only reason i collected her blue magics was just to have them

selphie - weird i never use her since shes my favourite female character and i dont mind slots. dont really have a reason here, maybe i'll try her out if i ever play through again

Rinoa, Squall and Irvine. Of course I took Squall away while I was leveling up later in the game.

Selphie would replace Rinoa when she was being a crybaby. I'd use Selphie more but her Limit is too random.

Zell is cool and all but i'd rather him be eating hot dogs. I don't want to take that away from him, cuz that's where his heart really lies.

Quistis was always the last person I wanted to use. Her Limits made no sense and I would actually have to use items to get it. Sorry I didn't feel like bothering. She was bland anyway. Go instruct someone else. Man, now that I think about it...she was kinda Emo.

Only KIND of emo? If the woman was anymore emo, she should've started an emo rockband! Squall was the exact opposite, he kept everything inside.

Do not compliment Quistis by calling her emo. She wanted to be the FF equivalent of Mary Kay Letourneau. Squall was the emo one, and rightly so. We have several threads for this discussion (Cloud Unveiled in the VII section and A Manifesto to Emos in GD), so don't continue it here.

Squall - I only use his limit for fun, never really use it for damage, except early on. ^^

Zell - His XO - updown combo make him do so much damge, that why anyone want a weakling like Irvine I can never understand.

Selphie - All others ( I seem the only one that thinks this ) have pathetic and unneeded damage ( I actually stop midway through zells limit when fighting ultima and omega weapons to check if they're dead yet ^^ ) so I like selphie mostly for her fullcure limit, also it passes the time to fiddle with her limit when other things are going on. :)

Why is it noone else loves this combo, why?
Also it helps to have ifrits strength plus ability on zell and siren's magic plus ability on selphie throughout the game. I ALWAYS do that do both of them, probably helps out a lil bit. ^^

Squall - Always had to have him, but would've have had it any other way, being the strongest character in the game.
Rinoa - Always used her when possible, mostly for the fact she is one of the more major characters, but also she can cause decent damage with a little effort.

For the last I would use whoever, almost never would use Quistis unless impossible to use someone else, just couldn't stand her for some reason. -shrug-

My team is:

Quistis- I had most of my good GFs junctioned to her.
Squall- His Renzokuken Limit Break just pwns.
Selphie- Her Slot Limit Break is pretty useful.

easy to answer.

squall- lionheart, and heft damage from having constant critical with r1.
Zell- good limit, good damage for support character
Rinoa- Caster. easily the highest magic stat, angel wing with meteor is the most deadly non limit attack in the game.

Mines were/are Zell, Squall, and Irvine.
With Zell powered up, just spamming the same 2-3 moves for his limit break does enough damage, and you can do them fast when you learn just two moves.
Squall, because other than being the main character, he's the one with the most spells and stuff for me, he usually has the highest attack power because I can't make the others stop failing at drawing magic.
Irvine because his Limit break is very useful, you usually can an ample amount of damage with just fast ammo if he is junctioned correctly plus I like the coat for some strange reason.

Squall, Rinoa, Zell. Mainly because of their characters rather than how good they are in battle. I just used them when possible from the start and didn't really bother using anyone else unless I had to.
