Dont you think the ESRB ratings are stupid. Everything is so stupid. Most of the games are overated, they aren't usually as bod as their rationg might make them see. I think people should make their own choice about a game, base their decision the on thoughts of dudes they don't even know. I'm not saying we should'nt have rationgs, but come on. They could be a lirrle more helpful. What do you think.

I give this thread a rationg of bod. =/

ESRB ratings are pretty irrelevant, though, right? I mean, you can still get pretty much any game desptie age restrictions.

... right?

I think the fact that I can't grow facial hair might have something to do with it.

Just be Bjorn Meph, and everything will work out great. :)

I think the ESRB ratings are pretty much irrelevant as well. Of course there are some games that deserve the ratings given to them, but there are others who don't. Of course I don't have actual game titles yet, but I still know I don't care much for the ratings.

These days in America you will have a hard time buying M-rated games without proving yourself to be old enough.

Look at it this way. In the event that games were completely unrated, anyone could buy any game. It'd be okay to sell a ten year old vice city. It'd be okay to let someone young see something that would probably severely freak them out. Yeah, it's a blurred line, and no doubt you'll say "OH BUT IM MATURE," but you need to have some sort of certification so that stupid idiots don't end up buying little children horribly violent games.

...also, in the event they were without certification, the media would eat the games industry alive for every manhunt incident - Rockstar would have no leg to stand on and probably get masacred in the process. Thus, no certification would lead to an ironic decrease in violent games, because nobody would want to piss off the media because some crazy guy bought their game and acted it out. Though the responsibility either way is in the hands of the person who gave the kid the game, without certification, they can plea that they had no real way of knowing that the game was appropriate for the child they were buying for.

I hope that makes it clearer for you.

You are apparently looking at the ratings the wrong way. They are mostly more for parents than they are for the person selling the game. If you were a parent, and you were getting a video game for your child, would you want to actually have to look up information about the games before you bought it, or would it be much easier to look on the back of the game case to see what the rating is. Conker's Bad Fur Day is a good example of this. There is nearly nothing on the box to show that it is a mature game. A parent could buy the game thinking it is for children (due to the cute little squirrel on it) and give it to their child.

In summary: Saying ratings are stupid is just wrong.

Haha - ratings are only a big deal until you're 18.

After that, nobody gives a crap :p

Mind you, ratings are a bit annoying in Aus at the moment - because we don't have an 18+ rating in video games yet (our highest is MA15+), Leisure Suit Larry: Magna Cum Laude has been denied release in Australia :(

I was looking forward to that game, too.

That's too bad... the earlier Leisure Suit Larry games were quite witty :(
