Dear users of the forum.

today, i'm going to give you an inside look at how to make a complete score(whether it be a dvd rip, a bd rip, or a complete set). Some of you may ask "Why would you repost something exactly similar to another user?" or "How do i remove the dvd/bd protection to move on with this". If you're wanting to rip dvd/bd for the very first time, continue reading these instructions. if anybody else wants to do something other than that in this thread, please do the same. I'll try to answer as much as i can if anyone has any questions.

Segments:
01. DVD/BD remux
a. Software and Tools You Need
b. Hardware You Need (for people who have computers with "non-blu ray compatibility")
02. A Complete Set

Now.... lets begin.

To Make A DVD / Blu Ray remux:
NOTE: Depending on the dvd/bd, it may come with a protection, but not to worry.

01. DVD's
Okay, so, if you're a beginner, then this should be easy. Some of this may take some of your space, but depending on how many gbs you have, it shouldn't be hard. To make a dvd rip, all you have to do is download some software(located in the "Software and Tools You Need" section of this area. Once you have the software, basically run these simple steps:
01. run the program.
02. select your dvd
03. choose your chapters you'd like to rip
04. pick your file type, frequencies, etc
05. start the process.
06. after step 5, head to the "software and tools" section

Another note:
01. Some dvds(depending on which ones) may have centered dialogue in all 2.0, 5.1 and/or 7.1 channels. if they do it "might be best to dodge those.
02. if your dvd/bd has low very little sfx, either from bl,fl,ce,fr,br, then making a complete or unreleased score WITHOUT sfx should be possible. if they're panned in all sections, then you'll have to choose the right tools and have great listening ears.
03. the users who have made dvd/bd rips before(me as a beginner[depending on the user]) has made a complete or unreleased score without sfx and it takes a GREAT amount of skill to do so. Users like EmpireSB or Phaota, but don't jump the bullet to quickly here folks.

02. Blu Rays
for blu rays, you MAYBE need a blu ray hard drive to rip the true hd sound and quality. if you'd like one, find your nearest tech store and get one(seriously, they're not that much). once you do, they'll probably have protection like the dvds do... but don't worry.

once you have a blu ray drive and a blu ray ripper, follow these steps:
01. load your dvd into your software
02. follow the same steps for ripping a dvd

02-a. The Software and Tools You Need:
for dvd rips:
01. ea3to or dvd audio extractor - to start your dvd rip process
02. an audio editor: i.e. - audacity or any other editor out there
03. to remove those slight sound effects: a pro audio editor - Audition or Sound Forge and iZotope RX2 or RX3(the quality of the sound after removal will effect your audio)

for blu ray remux:
01. same programs for steps 1,2 and 3.

02-b. The Hardware You Need (To Remove The Protection)
for both:
01. AnyDVD or AnyDVD HD (for blu ray)

02. A Complete Set
for you to make a complete set of whatever it is you'd like to release, research on how many releases of the soundtracks(original soundtracks, original scores, expanded, deluxe editions or special editions) may have been released(which basically completes 99% of your process). if you come across these albums that do not have a certain cue, then this is probably where your dvd/bd ripping tools come in.

if the soundtrack does have every single cue you're looking for, then making and posting it will save you and everyone the trouble of going for every single item.

To Make A Complete Set:
01. get those soundtracks
02. use information you know from the film on where everything goes
03. use your audio editor to make album versions and film versions, depending on the certain cue
04. make sure you put those cues in order the film goes in by using the dvd audio to fit everything in
05. once everything is done, compress everything in a zip or rar file
06. upload it to a file hosting site
07. post it where you'd like(here preferably).
08. sit back, relax and enjoy the comments go by as you witness your masterpiece go through the internet

Stuff Needed:
01. A BD Drive for Blu-rays.
02. DVD Audio Extractor or eac3to
03. Audacity
04. Pro Audio Software
05. AnyDVD to remove protection
06. MKVToolnix (when AnyDVD HD is finished with your bd, your file will come out as a "m2ts", so just convert it to mkv)
07. The soundtracks you need.
08. you're finished.
09. For converted mkvs, Bigasoft Audio Converter to extract the ac3, DTS, or DTS-HD true quality audio.
Happy ripping, creating and posting to you all. I hope this all helps

In addition, I will be making bd rips of the Disney Classic Collection. Including regular editions, special editions and Diamond Editions. If everyone can leave those to me, that's be great and fantastic!!!

Also, when I get DVDs and Blu-Rays like Aladdin, Pocahontas, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, The Great Mouse Detective, and many others, I'll try my best to create an isolated score depending on the film.... Deciding to finish what I started.

And remember kids, label albums according to the lowest quality source used.
That is, if it uses a rip, say that it's a rip.
If it's from an ISO score, say that it's from an ISO score.
And if it has dialogue or SFX, mention so up front.
Proper labeling cuts down on angry notes from downloaders later.

That's ridiculous. If I have in in lossless, and one or two MP3 files too, I shouldn't label the whole thing "MP3".

Do you know what will happen when the hard core loseless fans find out it's been contaminated with a compressed file format?
Oh, yes, you better give them a heads up.

That doesn't mean you can't say that most of it's loseless. But source quality is an important point and you will be eviscerated if they think you're trying to pull one over on them.

---------- Post added at 06:18 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:08 PM ----------

For loseless fans, there is no such thing as only mostly loseless.
For those who do not accept SFX, there is no such thing as a rip that's mostly SFX free.
And they do not take kindly to being led on.
The internet is strewn with the burned and rotting profiles of their victims.
It doesn't matter if this seems harsh or unfair.
You want to aspire to their leagues, you play to their standards.

I don't want it closed either.
I'm just giving you fair warning. If it scares you, it should.
I get a score that's not as advertised I'll send a very polite note, sometimes privately.
Others are not so...respectful.

iZotope RX 4 just arrived!!!!! I'm using it and multiple other DAWs to complete Walt Disney's "Aladdin".

Here's the difference between what's happening with my version and the album versions....

One Jump Ahead: in the segment in the album version where it goes "Stop, Thief! Vandals! Outraged! Scandall!", I've decided to replace the dialogue, use a segment of the front 2 channels of the BDRip(which I've boughten through amazon.uk) and use Aladdin's "Abu!" quote.

Prince Ali (Reprise): three things actually happened in this. First is Jafar's dialogue "The venue chosen is the ends of the earth!" That's been restored to its original film version. The second is Iago's dialogue. Snipped from the English center channel and has no effects for his quotes happened. The third and final process of this song was the removal of Jafar's sinister laugh and the thunder strike in the ending. What I did was use iZotope to make a "non-sound" end where the first thunder strike in the rear back right was. Then, of course, the second one came in. So, I just used the "Paulstretch" effect to stretch one section of the end, then replace that stretch where the instruments stopped, with the rest of the ending.....

You'll see what I mean. Lol..... Process is going good though.

Edit.

Thats the perfect complete score looks perfect. :D

I might and might not....... Was planning on doing hunchback, but THIS is what I'm finishing first... Besides, i have most of all the tracks with no echoes between the walls. The only part I need to do is get a language where the cave of wonders aren't so huge on echoes through the front left and right channels(French started to go completely blank when Aladdin wakes up from being unconscious, but when he rises, the echo comes back).

And I may be missing a couple cues like "Genie and Carpet" and "Genie's Third Rule.", but I'll cross that bridge later.

I just have to get that license renewed.... When I do, I'll finish the album version instrumentals of "A Whole New World" and "Friend Like Me"... I'm guaranteeing you that the rips of these instrumentals will either be mixed with either a front left and right, less echoed, dialogue or rear left and right with effects hopefully removed...

We'll see what happens

BAD NEWS:
The bad news is that Aladdin will be on a "slight" delay because of another project i have yet to finish and i'll be on less for this upcoming project.

GOOD NEWS:
If any of you find this good news at all is because i'm working on this after someone said i was too chicken shit to do it.

Hope i'll be back as soon as i can.

La Bamba: The Twilight Time Edition just came in the mail last night. :)

The next album I post, otherwise entitled: La Bamba: The 2-Disc Collectors Edition should or will be posted by tonight..... Just have to find a better version of the album songs, and finish mixing... This is just the 2.0 stereo version. The people wanting the 5.1 surround version can wait a bit longer... :)

making bd rips

Just to clarify, if you're just copying the video+audio without converting, it's called "remux".
BD remux.

Ripping is the process, but the naming convention of a "bd rip" is something tacky pirates use for converted movies.
Usually really low quality for dial-up people.

It's more appropriate to say the source is from a remux.

---------- Post added at 08:22 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:19 PM ----------

BDRip

Yeah, especially when you use the same capitalization case as torrent sites with inferior quality (usually just the DTS core or transcoded to either AC3 or AAC).

"BDremux" or just "remux".

It'll give relief for us other editors out there who use remuxes as a source.
Plus everyone else can learn this word, too.
