I�ve always thought that the sound of Unbreakable was good. Until I heard the complete score. You all know that this score in unaltered form contains a marvellous dynamic range (difference between the loudest and the softest sound). However, that isn�t very convenient, it�s also unsuited for casual listening. The OST just made it louder... which didn�t solve the original problem: on everything but the best system the score won�t sound any good because one would need to adjust gain constantly. Or you could either listen to a barely audible whisper or scare the neighbours. Or you could just download my set because I did it all for you.

Though I have to warn you: the result isn�t superior in any way to the OST or the complete version. You see, both don�t sound that well. Low level signals contain errors like noise, some clicks, etc. Especially the noise was very loud and disturbing. In some cases, I had to raise levels by roughly 15 dB - and on these I actually encountered what I think was quantization noise (caused by the 16 bit typical for CD). The staging of the bootleg tracks suffered from instruments moving around slightly. The only thing sounding a bit better were the loud parts.

Why am I telling you all this? Because when I made it louder I also amplified these errors. Before, they were barely noticeable. Now that they�re louder, they�re easily audible. And I also changed the frequency response into something that has more crispness and colour... but that increased the noisefloor as well which led me to de-noise some tracks. And de-noising always leaves traces, even if it�s done perfectly (concentrating on frequencies most audible to us humans while leaving stage noise untouched). What�s worse is that I introduced errors myself. To make everything easily audible, I used a combination of automated and manual dynamic compression. Apparently I fucked it up considerably because now you have pumping artifacts on two or three tracks (just listen to the last half of 'Visions'). Today, I wanted to re-do it... but then I realized that I couldn�t get rid of the errors I mentioned above. Unless someone provides better preserved / sounding session files, I won�t do it agian. Anyway, I don�t think that my set is better so use it at your own risk. Now that I think of it... I don�t feel that this release deserves the title 'Deluxe Edition'. 'Broken Edition' (pun intended) would be better suited.

At least the cover looks nice... oh, well...

To all my... erm... fans: this might be the first time really this 'famous' person SonicAdventure has seriously fucked up a score. I often direct hateful words towards other engineers and I'm not afraid to point them towards me too. IMO, this release is a disgrace. Whenenver I listen to it, several expressions pop up: unprofessional, lazy, sloppy, bad effort.

I'd love this to come out as an officially expanded release. Properly mastered from newly made sources. It would be infinitely superior to this piece of shite :)

Why did I share it then? Because I still like people to have a choice. They can listen to it and they might decide to use it. Or they can do the opposite and throw it into the garbage can (easy thing to do). It's their right and who am I to deny them this right? It's always good to have a choice.

Well, no matter how you feel, I thank you for your efforts anyway.

The last score i remember with that (imho) problem is "Blade II" by Marco Beltrami (the complete score).

Thanks a lot Sonic! I've always loved that score but couldn't take these crazy volume variations. I even primitively boosted myself some tracks (basically by just increasing the gain) some years ago, just so I could sort of enjoy this score.

Now I can have a proper "broken" edition, which as you said is going to be the best thing around until one day it comes out officially.

i am a huge fan of this score. i bought the cd short after the movie was released and i played it quite often over the years.
but since sonicadventure posted his remastered deluxe version, i can't even listen to the cd anymore...

Hey all, so I wanted to share something I just worked on quickly: a slight alternate to Sonic's cover for this. First off, I want to say that on top of Sonic's absolutely fantastic work with the music that he shares, he also happens to do magnificent work with his covers, for which I'm very grateful. Nevertheless, I'm a cover nut myself as well, and periodically wish for some tweaks for my own personal collection. In this case, I never quite liked the strong green color correction on this cover, and wanted something a bit more vibrant to reflect the color tones as I remembered from the film (the blue overall, but the green vs. purple of the main characters' battle). That said, I simply took the existing cover and changed it to reflect this, and give a less monochrome effect. Some might find it garish, perhaps I went a bit overboard, but I kinda like it.
No offense, to Sonic's excellent work, just wanted to share this.
Sonic, if for some reason you have a problem with me linking this to your page, please let me know and I can take it down. Enjoy!
