Hmm...

Well, I haven't gotten half the games I want for this year. So some of my favs might not exactly be recent. But here goes. My top ten (BESIDES FFVI, FFVII, and FFVIII. DUH.)

Armored Core 2: I've played ACNEXUS and AC3 and AC Silent Line, but none capture the futuristic feel of Armored Core 2, and the Disorder Units are my favorite badguys. Alien war machines rock.

Neverwinter Nights: One of the coolest RPGs I've ever played. I love the customizability of it.

Half-Life: I don't play many FPS games (sadly), but Half-Life was awesome. It had everything I could want in an FPS.

Metal Gear Solid: The one on the Playstation, not the remake, not MGS2. Metal Gear Solid 2 had too many cutscenes, and you couldn't even play as Snake in the latter half. MGS had no first person, no tranq gun, and the story was woven into the gameplay. Plus, there was no funky "Patriots" plot like in MGS2. Don't get me wrong, MGS2 was a great game, but it paled in comparison to the first on the PS.

Resident Evil 3: I like RE Outbreak, the remakes, and ya'betcha' I'm gettin' RE4. But Resident Evil 3 is the RE that I remember the most. Is it because Jill Valentine's a babe? Is it because the Nemesis rocked? I don't know, but me likey.

Brave Fencer Musashiden: One of the first games I played when I got my first Playstation. I loved the platforming and fighting action, and this is one game that had a great sense of humor. Musashi is one of my favorite videogame characters of all-time. Though I'm less than enthusiastic about the upcoming sequel (Musashi doesn't look anything LIKE Musashi, same goes for Lumina), I hope that it at least equals it's predesessor.

Mechcommander: One of my first Strategy Games. I'm a big fan of Mecha in all their forms. And though the mechs of the battletech universe are often less than pleasing to the eye, they can still kick arz like no other can. I recently picked up Mechcommander2 in the bargain bin. So far, it's everything I expected. Plus a mission editor.

Parasite Eve: Another one of my first PS games. I loved the feel of it. A horror Action RPG with a cinematic flair. Aya is another one of my favorite videogame heroes. A tough New York chick. I saw the japanese movie based off the original book some time ago. I highly reccomend other Parasite Eve fans do the same.

Frontmission: Giant mechs with big guns, what else is there? I downloaded frontmission to try it out once, and was stunned by it. Wow, that game was addictive, though I sadly deleted it after 24 hrs. Frontmission 4 is a great follow up in the series. For other Mecha Gearheads out there who haven't bought it by now, GO OUT AND GET IT!

Kingdom Hearts: Pre Kingdom Hearts, I hated disney, period. Disney was evil, disney wanted my soul. Disney was the same old crap over and over again. I prefered stories told by anime even when I was knee-high to a grasshopper (though my mother was notably less than enthused by my favorite "Cartoons". ROBOTECH FOREVER!). When I heard that Square was making a disney-themed RPG with FF characters, I was 25% excited, and 75% certain it would suck. Man oh man, was I wrong. Kingdom Hearts had great platforming, a great combat system, a great story, and Goofy kicking the $#!+ out of everyone AND ANYONE who got in his way. If I had my arz kicked by GOOFY, I would throw in the towel. LIFE DOESN'T GET WORSE THAN THAT, PEOPLE!!!

I've got it. What I can say is that it's really good, more of the same, but tweaked and improved. It makes a lot better use of bossfights, effects (fire etc,) and the cell shaded graphics work well.

Don't expect anything revolutionary, though, in terms of gameplay.

The 3d was a nice idea, but a bit impractical.

Dynasty Warriors 5 Empires is pretty good. A lot of improvements over Dynasty Warriors 4 Empires. One of the improvements I like, is the ability to issue direct orders to specific units (Attack Unit, Aid Unit, Attack Base and Aid Base), so you have more control over what your officers do in the battlefield.

In essence, Dynasty Warriors 5 Empires, is the same of Dynasty Warriors 4 Empires, but with some xtra goodies.

Right. In no particular order...

1) Halo.
I didn't like the sequel that much, but the first one was for the most part absolutely excellent. It really gave you a feeling of being involved in a desperate war on an alien world. Great sci-fi horror and good direction.

2) Final Fantasy VII.
The most complete game of the series in my opinion. Final Fantasy 8's first two discs get a honorary mention.

3) Super Mario World (the SNES one).
I was a huge 2D platform game fan, and this was the best I ever played. I can't take to these 3D versions of Mario and Sonic though...

4) Street Fighter 2.
The greatest arcade game ever became the greatest two player console game ever. Before I die, I want to play SF2 on a cinema screen.

5) Flashback.
A different kind of platform game to Mario, but another of my all time favourite games, even in a list of favourites.

6) Resident Evil, Code: Veronica.
Warped and twisted in all the right ways. This took the horror of RE1 and mixed in magical fantasy to make a wonderfully mad experience.

7) Zelda: Ocarina of time.
One of the only truly sucessful 3D adventure platformers. A big game and a big time experience.

8) Metroid Prime.
A game that never stopped giving. From the great rolling ball mode to the sense of scale and exploration, the sight of your eyes in the glare on the visor... it was one of the great experiences of recent times.

9) Goldeneye 007.
The best licensed game ever? Certainly one of the true greats both in terms of single player game and multiplayer. Words can't describe how much entertainment this game gave me and my mates.

10) Total Annihilation.
Quite simply *the* greatest RTS game of all time. Millions of units on the screen at once, huge battles, little need to worry about resources... great stuff.


There's always things that don't quite make the cut. KOTOR 2 (I know it was rushed, but until the end the story and characters were connecting with me far more than KOTOR 1), TIE Fighter, Forbidden Siren 1+2, Sim City, Silent Hill 2, the list goes on.

*About FF Tactics, I would of been very pleased for a direct sequel to that game...I wanted to see how they would follow up with Ramza and Alma being the only ones to survive and make it back from Murmond Death City. Tactics Advance to me was a real downer. They go from a major war that was controlled by humans making pacts with legendary demons...to a world within a book about guilds, judges and rules. (when did Final Fantasy see the need to create an advanced rulebook on a right way to defeat enemies?)

I made my point, although none of you probably care...I just feel better venting out some anger on Final Fantasy.

Mostly these are games I enjoyed in my younger childhood. A lot of them are just brilliant in their simplistic yet totally addictive gameplay, such as CTR, which I played absolutely incessantly. Others are there for quite the opposite; games like Football Manager 2008 for example, which is so complex you can play it for months and barely scratch the surface. However they are all there because of one common trait: they have taken over my life for weeks at a time in their own way, and as such deserve to be on the list.

On the Game Boy it had 12 levels, I'm sure. And I replayed it incessantly to try and beat my father's best scores. So I probably did spend weeks on it, especially considering I was about 7 at the time and it was the first game I played, if I remember correctly.

He's not into FF or anything like that, but most platformers and some sports games are shared interests for us.

No joke? My dad actually bought me my first PS1 and NCAA '97 (or was it '96?) just so he could play it. Ironically he played it once. :rolleyes: He's not a fan of consoles. I believe he's currently gaming Medieval Total War 2.
