I have Ys: Ark of Napishtim for PS2, but haven't played it yet. If I like it, maybe I'll check out the new one too.

Two little tips about the PS2 Version: 1) The CGI cutscenes are crap and 2) the voice acting is terrible but the gameplay itself is great albeit frustrating at times

Yeah I noticed both of those lol... I enjoyed the game though. It was a bit short, only took me a day. But it was a lot of fun, and I loved the music.

Ys Seven is my personal favorite Ys title :) I wasn't keen on Ys 6's OST for some reason but it was still a good game even though at times it was a pain in the arse XD I played the PSP version which runs a bit slower and I was struggling so I used CWCheat to help me finish it XD

The parts I had the most trouble with were the Ernst boss fight and that stupid third trial of Alma (don't know if those were on other versions). Ernst was just plain hard, but the third trial was kinda my fault. For one, just getting to its boss was a huge pain in the ass, and once I finally got there, I accidentally left my last remaining honey equipped for healing, and it wouldn't let me change it, so I had to beat that jellyfish without getting hit- one touch from the purple slime especially was pretty much an instant game over lol...

I am definitely going to play Seven- that one is next on my list. Just need to get my hands on a PSP...

I saw a rumor that the developers may be making the new one for the PS4. Whether it's a Ys 5 remaster or a new entry in the series (the two most suspected possibilities), it would be reeeeeeally awesome to see this series in HD.

It was the boss in the underwater ruins that got me every time as he was so far away, reaching him was impossible and waiting for my lightning sword to re-charge is a pain in the ass XD The Alma Trials are a PS2 exclusive as is the cheat menu option but both those are absent from the PSP version. You should be able to find a PSP quite cheap seeing as the PSVITA is the newest incarnation of it. The new game is being developed for both the PS4 and the PSVITA. Ys 5 and Memories of Celceta are the only two Ys games I have yet to play as I have played Ys I&II (the Chronicles versions), Ys III (as The Oath in Felghana), Ys VI, Ys Origin and Ys Seven

If you're talking about the wall/boss with the two long stone arms, you can hit his projectiles back at him with your sword. Makes that fight very short.

Yeah, I might have to pick up a PSP the next time I'm at my local game store because there's several games for it that I want (which won't be until Hyrule Warriors comes out lol). I'm still not entirely sold on the VITA though. Although, it's getting a decent enough amount of support from Japanese developers, so I might get one some time down the road. I hope the PS4 gets the same support in time too. If Disgaea 5 or Drakengard 4 is announced for PS4 instead of PS3, I'd get it in a heartbeat :P

That's the boss I'm talking about and I didn't know you could that so thanks for the useful tip :) Will have to try that :) I already had two reasons to get a PSVITA because of Ys: Memories of Celceta and Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment but now I have a third reason and that reason is next year's Ys :D

Although I am always up for more Ys, I would love it if they would just do a direct port of the TG-16 Ys: Book I and II on the modern consoles and portable systems like the Virtual Console release on the original Wii. For me, so much of the first two Ys games are tied directly to the look and sound of the technology of the time that it's hard to play the remakes, especially the DS one that seemed to do a very half-assed job trying to expand and modernize the game.

I have a, perhaps weird, question to Ys fans: What is so special about Adol? There's nothing about him that stands out as a character, so why does he have to be the protagonist of every game? I've only played Ark, so when I first found this out, I found it pretty weird, especially since he's silent.

I recently played Ys III on a Genesis emu on my PSP, and during the ending it states how Adol is an adventure junkie and the idea of a sedentary life would be pure agony for him. Well, it didn't say that verbatim, but it was implied. So I guess the Ys series of games are kind of a journal of Adol's adventures. I'm fine with that because Adol rocks. I'm so looking forward to the next installment.

The game footage reminded me instantly of Xenoblade Chronicles, which is definitely not a bad thing.
