ABOUT THE DC REMASTERED SERIES
The DC Remastered Series is a series of scores that have been personally remastered by me. This is the culmination of many months of research to find an audio restoration process to help decrease the dynamic range of the music by making the quiet parts louder without making the louder parts even louder.

Some people will disagree with my technique but I find the listening experience to be better since I can now hear the nuances of the orchestra to a greater degree. I've also EQed everything to add clarity to the music.

I can go on and on about process, but in the end, it is the final product that counts.

This is my first public release of my work and I hope many will find this version of one of my favorite Horner scores to be a great addition to their collection. If people are interested, I will continue to post more remastered scores from my collection. I only remaster scores from original CD or true lossless files. For now, I plan on only delivering the Remastered Series in MP3 V0, which is the highest quality mp3 you can output.

In no way is this series trying to compete with other members that do great work remastering scores (ex. SonicAdventure and others...). I simply want to share my love of film scores with others that enjoy not only the music, but the experience of listening to the music.

Hope you all enjoy and any feedback is appreciated.

But, but that's not how remastering works. No offense to what you've done, I'm sure it sounds great... But unless you have access to the multi-track source tapes, you're merely adjusting volume levels. Just saying. Mastering and remastering are terms thrown around very recklessly nowadays.

You may be right. I'm guessing that when someone nowadays hears the word "Remastered", they're expecting a better sounding experience. But technically, you need to go back to source tapes or reels to truly be remastering something. For me, the best I can do is using my 25 year old CD (which I cherish very much). Sorry if the word caught you the wrong way but I hope the work will make up for it.

Exactly :)

That said, I look forward to checking it out soon... Can't download at the moment (laptop took a crap), but will do so when possible. It is a truly fantastic score, one of my absolute favorites!

Wow, I can really hear the difference! It is like someone has lifted a veil on this wonderful music. The voices are much less muffled and many details are suddenly perceptible (sorry for the audiophile jargon ;-)). For someone who already knows this score very well it will definitely renew the listening experience. Your hard work wont be lost on me. Thank you so very much, dconline!

@ponsngo: Thanks very much for the comment. When I was working with this score, that's exactly how I felt when I was able to bring up everything and clean things up by adding some EQs and restoration tools. My goal is to do this on many James Horner scores since, as a listening experience, it is not the greatest. Hopefully more people will be on board with this and motivate me to do more "remastered" editions of hard-to-hear scores! Merci beaucoup...

It is one of the few scores I have in all 3 formats: LP, cassette and CD! I know… I was young back then. I always hoped that the sound would be better with the next format. The CD edition certainly improved upon the “crackles and pops” of the LP or the hissing sound of the cassette but made even more prominent the dynamic range issues. Today, thanks to you, I feel that this lingering dissatisfaction is gone. I am looking forward to hearing your next endeavor.

Thanks. My next endeavor will either be "Amistad" by John Williams or "Edward Scissorhands" by Danny Elfman. I might even try to tackle "Titanic" by James Horner since I did some preliminary tests and found some real interesting stuff while restoring a track with the Japanese flute Horner loves to use. Stay on the lookout for either of them.

StuffIt Expander not accepting the password. Has anyone else had this problem?

Are you using the Mac or Windows version of StuffIt Expander. I'm on a Mac so I use The Unarchiver and everything works well. I might download StuffIt Expander for Mac and see if I get the same problem...

Yep, that worked perfectly! Thanks for the tip!

Ok... so I tried with StuffIt Expander and I too got nowhere, but I know with other software it "unrars" no problem. I'm gonna do more tests and see if it is the length of the password or what... Stay tuned!

EDIT: Yup... As I thought. It was the length of the password. Somehow good ol' StuffIt doesn't like long passwords for some reason. Anyhow... I will remember that for my next endeavor. Thanks for pointing the problem out imagineer1138!

I do what I can for someone who is completely clueless about that sort of thing!

And thanks for all the hard work on the soundtrack - one of my favorites now sounds even better!

Would members of the forum be more interested in my "remasters" in FLAC 24-bit/48kHz (ripped from 16-bit/44kHz source) or MP3 V0 format? Working on some new scores and wanted to know what would really please the masses. Hope to hear as many opinions as possible!

I certainly will. However, the last complete score for Glory I heard was such lousy quality I got rid of it. Hopefully JHFan's version is way cleaner and acceptable. Thanks for the recommendation Amanda!

Why?

I'm guessing he/she means that they would rather a FLAC output of my work on this score rather than a MP3 version. I see where they are coming from but I wanted to test the waters here and see which output people preferred. I guess FLAC is the winner (obviously for lossless quality).
