THE PLAY
The Fantasticks, by Tom Jones & Harvey Schmidt, is a funny and romantic musical about a boy, a girl, two fathers and a wall.
The narrator, El Gallo, originally played by Jerry Orbach in 1960, asks the audience to use their imagination and follow him into a world of moonlight and magic.
The boy and the girl fall in love, grow apart, and finally find their way back to each other after realizing the truth in El Gallo's words that "without a hurt, the heart is hollow".
The 2006 revival was directed by lyricist Jones, who also appeared in the role of Henry.

Tom Jones left the cast in 2010, after the musical had celebrated its 50th anniversary.
Pop star Aaron Carter joined the cast as Matt, November 2011 thru February 17, 2013.
In memory of the original El Gallo, the theatre in which the revival is performed has been renamed the Jerry Orbach Theater.

THE SOUNDTRACK
The famous score, which includes the classics "Try To Remember," "They Were You" and "Soon It's Gonna Rain," is as timeless as the story itself. This recording preserves the 2006 revival production, which plays Off-Broadway at the Snapple Theatre Center's Jerry Orbach Theater.
This is the 2006 cast recording of the production that was released by Ghostlight Records.
In June of 2012, I attended the play in New York and really enjoyed the cast consisting of Aaron Carter (as Matt), Juliette Trafton (as Luisa) and Jeremiah James (as El Gallo pronunced guy-o).
Aaron gave his usual splendid acrobatic performance acting as well as singing;
Juliette sang her songs in her little falsetto voice;
But the real star was singer Jeremiah James whose ad-lib jokes combined with his
powerful singing voice made the show!
So as a bonus, I've included 2 Bonus Tracks from the 2012 cast.
