If I remember correctly,M-G-M recorded this score in stereo but released the film in mono,a common practice back in the 1950's,and even the 1960's. Unfortunately the original stereo recording masters were mixed to mono and saved on tape,resulting in the original stereo soundtrack being lost forever.

This is called the "MGM Holocaust". Four decades of wonderful musical history were destroyed in the sixties, the original audio recordings, the composer's hand-written manuscripts.
