It was confirmed it was suicide... Robin was suffering from severe depression and it finally got to be too much. I remember watching him in repeats of Mork & Mindy in the 80's... a great actor.

This is pretty tragic.

I had no idea about his divorce and drug abuse problems.
I know he didn't have many tours recently (don't miscontsrue that as had_zero_tours).
His TV show got cancelled. His biggest movies, recently, were the Night At The Museum series (I know he did other movies, but none were box office hits to pay for his divorce).

It's just really, really tragic to find out one of your favorite comedian actors dies from a suicide.
That's like dressing up a puppy as a clown for your birthday and it getting run over by a car.

I was hoping that Netflix or Yahoo would pick up The Crazy Ones for another running.

Sad, and shocking. The "everybody is Robin Williams" episode of Family Guy was on literally two hours ago. A cruel irony.

Hopefully this will highlight the danger of depression; people will say they're fine and they may even believe they're fine... and then they are discovered with their head in the noose. A little kindness, respect, and understanding can go a long way.

Farewell Robin, you're going to be all right... bye-bye. :(

I found out minutes after it was reported. Friend spammed my inbox with barely intelligble words, she like the actor a lot.

When I've learnt the fact just few minutes ago, I've been staring at the screen incredulous of what I was reading. This is a tragedy, not only for the death of one of my few favourite actors, but for the way it happened. I have no words, I didn't know about his situation... Just very sad. Now I'm only thinking to make some prayers :( :( :(.

Funeral Blues (W.H. Auden) (edited)

Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone,
Prevent the dog from barking with a juicy bone,
Silence the pianos and with muffled drum
Bring out the coffin, let the mourners come.

Let aeroplanes circle moaning overhead
Scribbling on the sky the message 'He is Dead'.
Put crepe bows round the white necks of the public doves,
Let the traffic policemen wear black cotton gloves.

The stars are not wanted now; put out every one,
Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun,
Pour away the ocean and sweep up the wood;
For nothing now can ever come to any good.

I think that in the company of Robin Williams, Death will laugh and laugh hard.
God, that man was funny. We won't see his like again.

So sad.. i remember my first childhood memories of Robin. Probably one of few people on earth who still enjoy the movie Hook. And i remember watching Jumanji a lot too. He was such a joy and full of life in his movies. That joy will live on for a long time.
Steven Spielberg got so depressed making schindlers list, that he called up Robin Williams to cheer him up. I belive he was a warm person and a great friend. Really sad to learn he was so depressed himself :(

RIP Robin Williams, Thank you for all the memories and laughs you gave us.

one of his quotes is in my sig: You are only given one little spark of madness. You mustn't lose it... (Robin Williams)

so sad and so classic, the "clown" being so sad inside.

Poor Robin Williams (like our sympathy should go out for every person suffering from depression)

May he be better now.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed many of his movies.

Damn, I practically grew up with him, I mean watching him on the screen ("Mrs. Doubtfire" is still one of my favorite comedies). And that suicide...why is it that those who make us laugh are often crying themselves?

One of the greatest comedians of all time. What a talented guy such a shame. The vice grip of depression is difficult to escape once it sinks its way in.

Because to truly understand joy, you must truly understand pain. Another painful irony of our species...

I was rewatching Good Will Hunting when the report came out... It seems often, the funniest people are the saddest... It's metaphysical, feeling so sad losing someone I've never met, but who's given so much.

Comedians of all entertainers typically are the most tortured inside.

Very sad new really. One that caught us all unwarned. This reminds once again that depression is a serious illness that can happen to anyone, even affecting those closer to you. So serious that if not treated well it can result in tragic consequences.

Anyway he will always be remembered as one of the best comedians of our generation, but also a very fine actor on dramatic roles. I loved him on Dead Poets Society and the Good Will Hunting.
As has been said, heaven is now a happier place with Robin Williams.

He will be sorely missed.

I must admit guys, I cried when I heard the news... and I don't cry often (especially for a celebrity). Such an amazing talented guy that was great as a stand-up comic, and a comedic & dramatic actor! HUGE part of my childhood. Now when he says "Bye-Bye" at the end of Mrs. Doubtfire, it will have a whole different effect on me.

A true tragedy indeed. I still remember the first time I ever saw The Best of Times (probably my first Williams film, though I can't be sure). A shame this world poses enough malice to drive a man to do the unthinkable. My heart goes out to the guy all the way. Glad he's not suffering anymore.
