This is for those who wish to play a Final Fantasy game but cannot find it for some reason (being it too old and rare to find nowadays). This thread will outline and provide you the things you need to start playing these games on your computer. Because people would rather download and play right away instead of hearing me chat all day about what you need to do, those who do know what they're doing can just skip all of this crap and run down to the links and get what they need. The rest of you: listen up.

Emulation can be a great thing but it can also be an annoying thing if you don't know what is going on. Remember that your computer is mimicing the said console (in this case, the Nintendo or Super Nintendo). Because of this, you have to realize that this isn't a "Final Fantasy Program", don't expect some sort of config that will tell that Ctrl is to talk or Alt is to run or whatever. You will need to know how a Nintendo or a Super Nintendo controller works. Once you know how a Final Fantasy game plays on those controllers, then you can figure out how to setup everything.

Now I gotta have to warn you.... these games are OLD.... especially the first three Final Fantasy games. They will be slow, old, and somewhat boring. However, with emulation nowadays, there is always a helpful fast foward button that will increase the speed of the game. With that out of the way, next warning is that the Final Fantasy 2, 3, and 5 roms presented in this post are not officially translated by Square Enix. If you read my other thread "Everything You Need To Know About Final Fantasy (Thread 17361)", you will learn why. And finally, the reason why there are 2 Final Fantasy 2s.... read my other post to find that out as well.

OF COURSE UNTIL I GET THE ROMS... this post will be a placeholder until I get them. Just come back in a bit.

Playing it on the computer, isn't as good though, as if you were playing it on the NES or SNES.
I bought FFVI 6 years ago, and I haven't seen one on it's own since.

Thus; well done MK, I Like your thinkin'.

snesorama.net is the best site for roms and emulators seeing as there is no spyware and you can get anything you want from it, its quick and simple but if you want to get the n64 roms you need to join up to their forums and post 10 posts (not spam)

True but their disclaimer says that you certify when you download that you own the OST, or the game, in real life, and they are not responsible, like BlueLaguna.net

Other sites don't have this though

Actually disclaimers don't really mean anything. Most likely if you're downloading it, you don't have an actual copy of it.

And I'll get those roms someday.

the only one i have is the american FFIII (FFVI) and that was from going through tons of sites when i searched it up on "ask Jeeves". i have the origins game, so i've played 1 and 2, for anyone that hasn't played 1...it was TERRIBLE...horribly planned out with a cheap storyline...but thats my opinion. 2 was ok. and i haven't finished playing the american 3.

i figured that i couldn't speak japanese, so no use downloading the others.

i think it is illegal to download the ROMs if you don't own the cartrgidge...so i personaly believe this topic should be closed, considering the meaning of the topic is to help people illegaly download the games...@_@

PM me if you want one, I have them uploaded to my own webspace. And downloading ROM's is not illegal, it is only illegal if you distribute ROM's that can somehow cause a loss of finance towards that project, and seen as the original FF's are that rare and inexpensive nowadays, software companies usually don't care. Also, I've got the offical ruling on the distribution and illegality of games, the ruling is:

If you own the game, you have the right to make/acquire as many copies of that game for your own personal use, in whatever format you want. This includes roms and emulation. What is illegal is the distribution of games on consoles that still sell millions of products

some games you can download because they are not IDSA protected...but...what the hell do i know! =)

if its not actualy illegal, then this web site gives you all of them!

Check this out! I bought a emulation cd rom entitled "Super Nintendo from A-Z!" All recent ff games from SuperNes was there, from ff 1 to 6! Plus Chrono Trigger and other Breath of Fire games was also included! Is that cool or what?! The best part is it only cost 2$! Believe it or not! Hail Philippines!

i too am lucky to own all the ost's except FF3 (japanese chronological)
Zsnes is the most compatible/tweakable emulater i have found
i have been doing this for years its funny finding people who have never herd of emulation...

Cool roms is great for 8-24bit roms google search it
you can also emulate PSX iso's from your hard drive check out isohunt, but you will need a bittorrent client to obtain the files

P.S DO NOT SELL THE ROMS THEN YOU ARE RIPPPING OFF THE COMPANY's AND BREACHING COPYRIGHT! REMEMBER YOU NEED TO OWN AN ORIGINAL TO POSSESS ANY FORM OF BACKUP (ROMS)

you will cause the end of FF if they cant recoup any costs

Mogknight everyone knew what emulator, and it's capability. But it's good to be reminded of emulation from time to time. I know pretty good place to download pretty good rpg's roms and such.

:Warning:

Emulator games may crash your hard drive in which you must buy a new one. The only way you can prevent the crashing from happening is not to use game cheats on any game you play on the emulation system. If you must use cheat to want to make your game more enjoyable. I suggest you remember that it may crash your computer. I'm still checking what else may cause the computer to crash, so furthermore there might be other things that may crash your computer. So don't be foolish experiment with things you may not be able to comprehend.

Hey, I've got a question about the roms. I just downloaded FFI, and I like it. I do. But there is one thing that bugs me: the 'A'-key is 'alt' for my comp, and when I press 'alt' I open the 'file'-menu. This means that I can't play the game without constantly klicking my self out of the 'file'-menu, which is, excuse my language, a freaking pain in the ass. Is it possible to change the keys?

Uh.. Where's FF1 ROM?

Btw, I'll also contribute for the ROM..

The first site sites are kinds 'nsfw' as in.. When you want to download a ROM, you have to vote on two sites, both of them are ROM related sites, but one of them have a "anime" pic.

NO harm done really.. but just to inform.
The second two are fine.

Ye, ye, ye we all have ROMs and stuff, but what about ISOs? I know how to burn them to a disc, but I can't find a place to download them. Trust me, it's very frustrating looking for them, but if anybody finds a place where they are available for download, please post/PM me. In particular, I'm lookin for FFX cos my copy got destroyed.

Seems everyone has things covered MK :P

Only the new gamers tend to download the roms, as us oldies were old enough to buy the originals when they came out.

However never fear, remember that they're re-releasing FF4, 5 and 6 on GBA soon. (so you can emulate the GBA versions, or even *gasp* buy them)
