I'm surprised Cloud and Squall still hold so much pull after all these years. I'd probably lean pretty heavily on characters from VI--although Rydia, who I saw at the top of feral's list, would have to be up there.

Shad: you and I have nearly identical top SNES lists. Have you ever played Terranigma or Front Mission: Gun Hazard? You might love them.

Hah, I was thinking "but I had Rydia as #1 too..." and then I realized I posted the wrong link. Terranigma has been high on my list of games to play forever, but I haven't played a non-Blizzard game since Skyrim, and Suikoden V before that. I'm pacing about one every 5 years right now, so.....

Front Mission? I know the name gets tossed around a lot because it's classic Square, but isn't it a shooter?

Gun Hazard is a side-scrolling shooter with RPG elements, a great storyline, stupendous soundtrack, wonderful character art, and some stunning lighting effects for an SNES game. The first time I picked it up, I did so because it was a joint Uematsu/Mitsuda soundtrack. I gave up on it after the first level because I really didn't want to play a shooter. A couple years later, I gave it a second chance and was blown away. It's amazing. I think it's one of the top 10 games made for the SNES.

The only other Front Mission I've played is the first one, which is also for the SNES and also very good--but completely different.

I wanted to see if there was a thread for this, where we talked about our favourite FF characters, and then saw this thread! So I'm hoping for more discussion.I was a bit sad that they didn't have more bosses (though they didn't factor into my list)
