He does use themes prominently and properly. My only problem is that the themes are a bit too simplistic for my tastes. It suffers from the modern dramatic score cliches of an abundance of long notes, mastering heavy on bass for what shouldn't need it, and string ostinatos driving the background. It is a step in the right direction from Beltrami but still fails to really hit all the points I think it should for something like this.

many thanks. Just saw the film last night, and really enjoyed the score. Although the main theme is quite simple, it works very directly and there a real beauty and tenderness to this music, which is a big change from his recent direction of scores.
