The last things I bought were:

The first Belle & Sebastian album, Tigermilk. I love it, and someone here who listens to them a lot should tell me which album to get next. I'm looking at you, Charlemagne.

"Weevilville," a live album by a band called The Bollweevils who I had only heard one song from on a compilation CD. It's good and I found it used for like five bucks. :D

Metallica has no depth whatsoever. Sure, their songs mean something, but it's not something that I connect to on any real level.

Don't get me wrong - Metallica is a great band. It's weird though that my favourite song of theirs is their 'out-of-character' acoustic song, Nothing Else Matters.

Evanescence has a message behind their songs that I can relate to - Fallen is an entire album about crisis of faith. Everyone at some point has lost faith in something - you don't even have to be a Christian to appreciate the raw emotions of fear and betrayal.

It's a gripping, emotional experience, which is what music should be about.

Also, the vast majority of the music I listen to I wouldn't be able to buy (or even obtain illegally), unless it's with absurd import costs that make it twice as expensive than if I was getting a normal cd. Everything else I listen to, I own all of their music.

Okay.

Let's see, I can think up a few good examples of metallica songs that have similar "depth" to anything evanescence have done.

Fade to black, it's about the walk towards suicide.
Loverman's about a rapist.
Sweet Amber's about the lead singer's drink problem.
The Unforgiven is about a gunslinger.
The Outlaw Torn's about, well, love.

See?

We can draw lame meaning from every goddamn song if we want to. Not that Metallica are anymore deep than evanescence, but evanescene are not, and will never be "deep."

A person's definition of 'deep' depends on how it affects them personally - Evanescence affects me on a deeper emotional level than Metallica, probably because i've experienced a lot of what they talk about.

Because i've never struggled with drugs or violence, I can't connect with Metallica on the same level.

I probably could have phrased my argument better, but that's what i'm trying to say - the music of Evanescence seems deeper to me.

I was going to post.

Something... longer. But I am tired. I'd recommend either 'If You're Feeling Sinister' or 'Dear Catastrophe Waitress'. If You're Feeling Sinister is in much the same vein as Tigermilk, though it is generally thought of as slightly inferior. DCW features much more expansive instrumentation and generally has a completely different tone to their earlier stuff. It's sort of happy an up-beat, but I found it to be just as enjoyable as previous efforts.

Of the remaining albums, I'd recommend 'The Boy With The Arab Strap' above 'Fold Your Hands Child, You Walk Like A Peasant'.

Also, you might want to avoid Storytelling. I like it, and all, but it's an OST and mostly consists of instrumentals. The few proper songs on it are pretty good, but it's probably not worth getting unless you're really after some background music, or are just a huge fan, or I don't know what.

So, Dear Catastrophe Waitress or If You're Feeling Sinister, then.

Yes.

They were: "A Day Late and a Dollar Short" and "Later Days and Better Lays," both collections of unreleased/EP/demo Queers songs. They are awesome. I also found "Suck & Bloat" by The Pink Lincolns. All in all, not a bad catch for a trip to a shitty music store.

I wish we had used CD stores here. I know a great one, but it's the other side of the country. Of course, we're not a big country, but it's still not exactly easy access, so I tend to buy 5 - 10 CD's from it whenever I am there. =)

Just bought "Slates by the Fall" 15 minutes ago. 13 euro, brand new, so it's pretty reasonable. I think Sanctuary are going on some Fall re-release binge, because there's a new Sancturay-era Fall CD out here each week, and they're all cheap. Which rocks.

Also, looking forward to getting either Frank Black Francis, the new CD from Pixies frontman, whatever he is calling himself. Features 2 discs, one of his old solo Pixies demo tapes, and another of reinterpretations of Pixies songs. Am also considering purchasing Elliot Smiths new, and sadly terminal album, if I can find it anywhere.

Last purchase was a "mainstream" CD that someone recommended who I will now never forgive, that shall remain nameless. The CD was that new one by Sarah McLachlan or whatever her name is.

It's grown on the me the past couple of days, and I'm enjoying it a lot right now. Most of the places that I read about Les Savy Fav call them post punk, if anyone's wandering what the sound like. They remind me some of the Pixies, and some of Trail of Dead.

I hadn't been buying many CDs for a while, but I found three great independent music stores since moving down here for college (Athens, GA is a great music town), and so now I'm getting back into the swing of things. They didn't have any cool music stores back home.

Blur - Best Of

This is a really good CD, they haven't just put all the songs that went to number 1, but just generally really good songs.

I should like to point tidus~lulu to the title of this thread, specifically the part that says "please do not bother posting "I d/l my music", reading it does the body good.

Today I bought Jethro Tull's War Child and The Who Sell Out. Both very good and I highly recommend them.

I just picked up the first album from former Norma Jean members, Everything is alive, Everything is breathing, Nothing is dead and nothing is bleeding by The Chariot.

And boy its fucking awsome. Originaly I thought it was gonna be nothing but a huge butt rock album with alot of double bass and screaming. And it was but I love it and for some weird reason can't stop listening.

As much as I love Pearl Jam and I've been a fan for about 6 years, I'm not going to buy this, mainly as it'd be a waste of money, I have all the studio albums including 'Lost Dogs.' So sorry Pearl Jam, but I don't think they'd want too many people to buy it anyway, as most 'greatest hits' are excuses for 'cash-ins' and there not the type of band that wants to do that........well I hope not.
