I'm willing to give someone the converted .wavs if they're willing to make a gamerip of it.

I don't know the game well enough to do it myself.

Okay. I'll give you wav copies.

Don't forget some of the songs have dual-layers. Those can be isolated in Audacity.

Not sure what "Sur" stands for.

Let me know when you're done downloading it, please, so I can delete it to save bandwith! :D

And link me to the rip when you're done!

Is there any chance you could release a FLAC version too? :) Just found this topic via Google, registered to post. The rip is looking really good, the quality is amazing and the tags look fine (although I think the "prologue" tracks maybe could use more specific names, they're played during specific times). I've personally done quite a few soundtrack rips myself and this one is looking great. Thanks for your efforts :)

edit: some more thoughts, the composers for ACNL (http://www.ymm.co.jp/p/detail.php?code=GTP01089680) are 片岡 真央(Manaka Kataoka), 朝日 温子(Atsuko Asahi) and 戸高 一生(Kazumi Totaka). Here's another source. (http://www.metacritic.com/game/3ds/animal-crossing-new-leaf/details)
It might be good to add a year tag (2012) and maybe some genre (I usually use "Video game music" as tag but "OST" or "VG music" could work).

also some questions, is "185_Island Last 30 sec.m4a" supposed to be only one second long? Also, the "game2" tagged songs right before it, are those played when you're almost out of time? There are some other very minor tagging things I'd personally change, if you want I can elaborate. It might also be good to include a text file in the rip that links back to this topic in case people have questions.

Yeah I'd still be really interested in a lossless version too. (No need for wav files but flac would be great.) I love the quality of the rip, although I'd like it if the "hours of the day" songs were looped once or twice extra. And a small half-second pause embedded in the song would be cool too, the next one starts a little suddenly.

And I believe the m4a album, track 166 and 167 are corrupted and won't play in any of my media players. (However though converting the m4a to say, mp3 or flac, renders the song playable again. So I don't know whats up).

It might be due to having more than 2 tracks. I'm currently working on cleaning up the WAV files, when I wanted to convert them to FLAC I got a few errors too. After looking at the files I found they had three tracks that had to be normalized to 2.

The K.K. Songs (Fake songs 1-3) sure. link (http://www.mediafire.com/?g7v5kxhv29i0ng1) as mentioned already, line-in recording is bad. However since if the k.k. songs already exist (from city folk) no reason to re-rip those. They are the same in new leaf. Its only the new songs you have to worry about. Saves time I guess.

Also dangnabbit, sequenced music. I guess I can understand that. What is it, all of K.k songs (around 90ish) remixed, then REMIXED again for the 8-bit version. That would be alot of streamed music files. And I'm pretty sure it changes songs randomly when playing. 8-Bit (http://www.mediafire.com/download/8rdll9qvwo5d5zl/Club_LOL_8-Bit.zip). Thats like only 22 songs. And since they change, makes it really hard to record which ones you didn't get, getting dupes etc..

robotortoise1
08-22-2014, 01:13 AM
Well doesn't New Leaf use a different K.K. soundfont?

swigswag
08-22-2014, 02:05 AM
Well now you brought up an interesting point. I just assumed being the same songs in all games, it would sound the same. I gave new leaf and city folks a few songs a listenin' to. They do seem to sound a little different.

If this is the case, then.. 91 K.K. Songs, 91 aircheck songs, 91 Club 101 Remixes, 91 8-Bit remixes. The 3 fake songs and finally (I think) the 4 hidden songs. That's alot of music to rip, convert, tag. A fully complete new leaf ost would be like 2gb assuming they are flac's.

dada_
08-23-2014, 12:09 PM
Still, I think it would be good if this soundtrack could be complete someday. :) The internet has a way with these things and is generally very eager to slave away in order to bring everything to 100% completion. So someday I'm sure someone will take up the task. Either that or they'll be included in an official soundtrack someday.

I'll finish tagging the FLAC soundtrack today, since the wav version was untagged.

By the way swigswag, those fake songs you linked, are those from City Folk or from New Leaf?

swigswag
08-23-2014, 06:03 PM
From New Leaf. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8TfGmsyo9EU

And awesome looking forward to the flac version.

Ugh, I'm sorry to have to ask this, but is there any chance you could reupload the WAV versions of the 24 hours? (I only need those.) I'm not sure how but I somehow deleted a bunch of them without realizing it while cleaning up temporary files. So now I only have 1AM-12AM and 12PM, but not 1PM-11PM...
Really sorry about this, don't know how I did it.

Aside from that, the songs I don't have a good tag for (the other OGG rip doesn't have these tagged either) are here (http://wedemandhtml.com/tmp/acnl_unknown_tracks/). Temporarily hosted on my own fileserver, I'll take it down in a while. Hopefully someone can help with those last few tracks, and once that's done and I have the other hourly tracks I'm done with the release. :)

edit: uploading version 1 now... still a few things that need to be checked. It'll take a while, it's going at only 100kbps at mega.co.nz.
---
edit: here's the first version: https://mega.co.nz/#!D9NEgRjK!9VkW_icZc01kFhWNGfCz0uX9xdJj9Ea2Bfwev4f xCl0

There are still some tracks that are not correctly tagged, they have a comment field that says "CHECK". I would appreciate any help in filling up those gaps.

I've organized it like this:

Main theme and prologue (player coming to town)
24 hour tracks (well, except for the ones I seem to have accidentally deleted), plus the rain/snow versions
Downtown (commercial area) tracks, with intros and main parts merged together
Tracks for each shop/location downtown
Tracks for each shop/location in the main area (I accidentally put the post office here too, will fix it)
All special events (christmas, thanksgiving, etc)
Island tracks
All short tracks used during a special activity (fortune telling, chased by a bee, etc)
SFX and unknown tracks (please help me figure these out!)

swigswag

Oh man...that file size. It's been about 3 mins right now. 2% done.

Anyways those tracks you had up, I tried to tag them. They are about 5 I don't remember or recognize. Maybe some one else can help as well. ac unknown (http://www.mediafire.com/download/qsbrd5339c9ig5s/ac+unknown.zip) is the link for the ones I did.

Most seemed to be the furniture special items (like the mario invincible star or link's master sword) and some clothing sounds when you wear them.

I very much appreciate the work your doing right now.

Here is the original hourly wav's https://mega.co.nz/#!qkFTGaST!XDel-qZ-Kc8rxiLCCw82dxlO97pcvwHfgUUuHyk9BuA

I don't know how the other wav's were, some of the songs in the version 1 pack are dual songs on the same song. For example, Easter, had a main bgm, but if you got close to the town center, an additional song will start player (either over it or as a new separate song, I'm not sure).
I'd imagine it might be better to separate the dual songs. Either as two separate songs, or play the first song then fade it into the second song. Like the paper mario toad town variations.

It's just my opinion on song variations. Personally I don't like the second song of Easter, just the first part. T.I.Y mart is another one (song for plant side, song for furniture side).

mmmmmmm
08-26-2014, 06:09 AM
Why exactly is line-in recording bad? I do it with chiptunes all the time, and after an EQ to get rid of native gameboy muddiness, it sounds great.

swigswag
08-27-2014, 03:59 AM
I thought that too...I did nearly the whole new leaf soundtrack by line-in (this was back when the game came out).

Then I listened to dada_'s version. What an improvement over line-in recording. And I didn't just 'plug into the mic line'. I had an actually decent recording device.
The problem of course, analog to digital conversions. Like taking a picture of your monitor with a 90's camera then expecting pixel-perfect when you upload the photo to your pc.

Then there's always the means of recording in the first place. You have to manually sit there, find the song/spot it plays in, record it while it plays. Never mind there might be sound effects or other noise ruining the pure music.
I know when I did the new leaf's, finding a spot not near water or the train. Recording each of the hourly music for like 2-3 mins HOPING that an animal just doesn't waltz on by, making footsteps sounds. Nights were the worse, with the flies and misquotes buzzing. Oh man I didn't even get the snow or rain hourly music. Since rain is random and snow would require me to skip to winter (I was in june and playing legit, not gonna skip.) Yes I actually woke up during the 1-8 am to get the am music.

Boy wasn't that fun. Took forever to do. Also hidden music in the game files not found in the actual game.
Sorry ramblings.

My point is, there's alot of reasons why line-recording is bad. For those of us who want the 'pixel-perfect' approach to music, there's no other alternative then the actual game source rips and flac music.

dada_
08-28-2014, 03:45 PM
Would you happen to still have a recording of the train music at the very beginning? As far as I can tell, that and the club music is missing. The train music would be a shame to not have though since it's so prominent.

I've started a topic on another forum asking about what those last few sound effects are. :) Now I'm going to fix up those hourly music tracks... will have another update soon!

edit:

It's just my opinion on song variations. Personally I don't like the second song of Easter, just the first part. T.I.Y mart is another one (song for plant side, song for furniture side).

You are right. I actually didn't think much of it, I just deleted them since the ones including the sound effects seemed "proper". But it's no problem to simply include those as well. The TIY Mart thing is interesting, I think I only had one version of that? I really shouldn't have deleted the original WAV files :)
If I'm right, those variations all had "SUR" in the filename. If you or robotortoise1 could reupload those... as well as the TIY Mart variation and any other you think I might've missed, that'd be great. I swear it'll be the last time you need to reupload anything :)

edit: hourly tracks fixed. If I'm not mistaken, all that needs to be done now is: 1) add the variation (SUR) songs, e.g. for carnivale. 2) find out what those 5 last unknown SFX tracks are. 3) write info file crediting everyone involved and package it properly.

yet another edit: the only track that's still a mystery is 0x4ADA20.BCWAV. all others are accounted for.

edit: that last mystery track has been identified, it's part of the tree planting ceremony. I thought I already had that track tagged, but it's in two parts. :) So with that, I've got all I need to finish up... will post update tomorrow.

Glad you found out :) For anyone who happens to stumble upon this and wants to convert .bcstm files, you can do so easily using foobar2000's foo_input_vgmstream (http://www.foobar2000.org/components/view/foo_input_vgmstream) component.

edit: btw, work has been killing me, so I've not done any work yet.

Also, I got a full dump of Pokmon X/Y. Unfortunately, this is one of the few games that doesn't have lossless audio. It's got pre-encoded .aac files at VBR ~128kbps. So the official soundtrack release has higher quality .m4a files (or lossless if you get the CD, I guess). :/ Still, the official soundtrack is missing 3 tracks: the wifi connection track, and two "happy birthday" songs—the latter due to copyright I'm guessing.

Now, some tracks have added SFX, I'll see if there's any way to isolate or even remove that...highly unlikely though...

Any tips or tricks would be wonderful.

You would have to look into the tracks with a tool such as Audacity. In the case of Animal Crossing New Leaf, several had sound effects as extra tracks in the file. Basically, normally a song would have only two tracks: left speaker and right speaker. In cases where there's sound effects in ACNL, they were extra tracks alongside the left/right, which the game basically fades from 0% to 100% volume depending on what's going on in the game. So if you walk away from something the sound effect track might be faded out to zero.

So you'd need to go in and remove the other tracks and then save it as a new wav file. Sometimes there's multiple extra tracks, and you need to make several files. For example, the Mabel/Sable/Labelle shop in ACNL had both their tracks combined into one file (4 tracks total: left/right for the tailor shop, and left/right for the accessories shop—the game fades between the two based on your location in the building), so I had to go in and extract the right tracks and save it as two wav files.

edit: of course it might be different for your game. Also, you'd have to do this before you convert the files, since converters usually merge tracks how they see fit. You should still have the extra tracks after conversion to WAV.

You're a handy guy! do I need another plug-in for audacity?

I tried importing it as "Raw Data" the sound was...unpleasant, so that's what I'm assuming.

dada_
09-10-2014, 01:34 PM
You would import it into Audacity after converting the files to WAV. When I did ACNL the tracks were actually already converted to WAV, so it was easy for me. But if you convert them, then they will be editable in Audacity.

You just told me to do this before converting them....

How do you extract the tracks, in audacity? or do you use some other program?

Doesn't conversion just make it all into one big file?

Is it okay to send me a screenshot of the extra files on it, just to see if mine looks the same.

I dumped it as .wav but I think I'm doing this very wrong, either that or the sound was already mixed to begin with.

Sorry, I meant before converting them from WAV to something else, even if it's lossless like Flac. Audacity can't edit bcstm files directly.

I open it in audacity and it's only one, I'm starting to think it was included from the start.

I actually think this file only has 2 channels, and there's nothing else to do with it... :(

But just to be sure I've posited the question to some people who are directly involved in hacking the 3DS. Don't know if they'll respond (it's an IRC channel) but I'll let you know if I find out more. However, here's what the vgmstream binary had to say:

M:\>vgmstream\test.exe "STRM_STRM_FIELD06_RC_LASTBOSS_32.bcstm"
decoding STRM_STRM_FIELD06_RC_LASTBOSS_32.bcstm
sample rate 32728 Hz
channels: 2
stream total samples: 9304821 (284.3077 seconds)
encoding: Gamecube "DSP" 4-bit ADPCM
layout: interleave with short last block
interleave: 0x2000 bytes
last block interleave: 0x1c0 bytes
metadata from: Nintendo 3DS CSTM Header
samples to play: 9304821 (284.3077 seconds)

I'm inclined to think it doesn't have more than 2 channels if test.exe says so.

edit: unrelated, but if anyone is using vgmstream's test.exe to convert files and you want to mass convert an entire directory, you can use this .bat file I just wrote (http://pastebin.com/SRxEnZWE)

Do you have a link to the bcstm?

True, but I don't really worry about compression until the end of the process, and until then I need to keep them in a usable lossless format. I'll worry about more efficient compression later. (They are ADPCM compressed. (https://dpaste.de/32nr/raw)) The bcstm files are about 20% of the flacs' size, but of course they're untagged. If you want the soundtrack then I'd say it's best to wait for the tagged version to be done and properly compressed, but if you really want to then I can upload the raw files.

I always do :)

In any case, since no one has come forward to help I've finished things up myself. The last few tracks might not have 100% accurate names but if that's so I'll hear about it someday.
The tracks have been encoded at lame-v2 mp3, which is very high quality but still relatively small (slightly bigger than the original bcstm files). This seems like an acceptable quality/filesize tradeoff to me. Flac is out of the question since the tracks already had lossy compression.

Hi there.
Yeah, the MP3 files weren't doing too well. Actually the files themselves were technically OK, but they were encoded at 32khz (since the source material is not much different). Some MP3 software, like iTunes, does not like that, and plays them back very poorly. Other music applications don't have this problem. That's why I never noticed it until other people pointed it out to me.

So, to get around this problem I've made a new version: Animal Crossing New Leaf OST (2012) [3DS] [mp3-v0][v2].zip (https://mega.co.nz/#!egM1GKSZ!HmUKEss6baoFgvvjGBRzj8FmuYEEtCnQk5mQh3H Z1sE) (510.9 MB)

This one has been upscaled to 44.1khz, which is reported to work in iTunes as well.

While we're all on the subject of gamerips, what I really wish I had was a rip of the tracks from Conception II since the CD that came with the game was not satisfactory for me. Sure, Vita rips are almost impossible, but since it's on the 3DS as well, perhaps it can be done? Cuz there's some tracks from that game that I wish I had in my collection but I can't rip music like everyone else can, plus I didn't buy a physical copy of the game in the first place.

Unfortunately the static seems to be in there in the original version too, it's not a matter of a mistake during editing. But come to think of it, this was one track I wasn't too sure about whether it was actually being used as-is or not. Might be that it's used but at a low volume and only during the short period after you exit the train and walk through the station.

Well, it's just that (like I mentioned earlier on this thread) there's an RPG on the 3DS that's also on the Vita, but 3DS recordings are more reliable. I'd do them myself, but I don't know how.

The game in question is Conception II: Children of the Seven Stars. Personally, I really wish I had an actual full OST to that game, but no such thing exists because not every track that I've found was recorded on YouTube. There is for the first game and a sampler for the second game, but that's about it.

There might be some place where you can ask for someone to rip this game. Also...it's possible that it's technically not possible to rip. Finally, it might be worth searching the Japanese Amazon or some place for an OST of the Japanese version of the game. In Japan, soundtracks for games are much more popular to buy, so a lot more of them are released. Could be that it's been released on CD. I could help you with this if you want.

Tiamat

Well, it is possible since one can mute the voices and SFX, leaving only the music.

Besides, as far as I know, there was never an official OST release for the second game.

You happen to have any ideas as to who would be willing to do this?

dada_
12-16-2014, 11:34 PM
Well, it is possible since one can mute the voices and SFX, leaving only the music.
Well, when I'm talking about whether it is possible or not, I'm referring to ripping the sound files directly from the decrypted cartridge. That's how you get the nicest and cleanest recordings, and that's how the ACNL one was made. You can rip the music itself too by recording it from the audio jack, but the quality just isn't as good.

Unfortunately I don't know who would be willing to do it. I know that a number of people from Project Pokmon can do this, though.

Tiamat
12-17-2014, 12:02 AM
Perhaps.

*sigh* Then again I doubt people would be interested in that game's OST in the first place. I know many of the tracks are remixes of tracks from the first game, but even so I still like it.

If I could, I would resort to using the audio jack, but sadly the audio jack on my PC's tower is rather...flimsy, for lack of a better word.

I mean, they're fantastic. I wish they had been released in CD, because they look like they were made in full studio and not by computer. Pretty sure even if it was ripped inside the cartridge it'd still sound with compressed noise. :T

Also, why didn't you ever made a FULL not WIP of PMD: GTI in FLAC? I know you said the source was not loseless, but for archival reasons I always like FLAC.

Hi there, unfortunately I can't really rip new games. For one thing I don't have that game, but I also can't rip. I can only tag the files that other people rip and convert them to a normal format.

Also, the PMD:GTI one was the final version, but I didn't use Flac for it because there just wasn't really any point. As I recall, it was about 5x bigger and the sound quality is just as bad because it's lossy music anyway. So with the quality I saved the files, there should be virtually no difference.

I'm nearly done. Just adding the last surround sound tracks. I've written a small info file (https://dpaste.de/DF1p/raw), anyone know if I forgot anything or forgot to credit anyone?

edit: version 2 of the soundtrack. includes all title fixes, the previously missing tracks, includes the no-sfx versions of a few tracks, some reorganization. TIY was split into the proper main/garden sections. includes artwork and info file.

Animal Crossing New Leaf OST (2012) [3DS] [flac-l8][v2].zip https://mega.co.nz/#!fhlwTT5a!wP2TS2V2sSmxnG_sQbtoxVkwHuiaZlmlleTfmpG _fsU (911.2 MB)

Please have a look and let me know if anything else needs to be fixed.

Can you re-up this? the v1 flac/v0 version is still avaible. This thread kinda sidetracked, unless there's a v3+ version anywhere?

The ACNL files got taken down by Mega due to a DMCA takedown request today. I'm thinking I could put up a torrent for these files maybe.

Hi Dada, is there another valid link for the New Leaf OST? These ones have been pulled down as of 4 months ago apparently. :/

Seems the torrent is still alive, I'll upload it here for you people, but only the MP3 version since I lost my cable for my hard drive and I don't have any room on my lappy.
