the soundtrack consists of recordings of several blues styles popular at that time ranging from the piedmont finger-style guitar playing of etta baker to the jump blues of big joe turner plus some new recordings by musicians who also act in this hbo production,like mos def,robert bradley and macy gray.
the juxtaposition of the old and new recordings is daring but not unbearable.
