I'd never heard of The Dark Crystal before, but I've just watched the trailer, and now the first 10 minutes of the film on YouTube - it looks awesome! I love films like that! It's that just me or only few people explore animated movie outside of the American industry catalogue !!!
I grew up with Disney, Croatian (The Elm-Chanted Forest, The Magician's Hat, Professor Balthazar), Czech (Krtek, A je to!) and Polish (Reksio) animated films. But the most memorable music, which I listen to on a regular basis, is the one I listed.

Being from Poland, I was also considering Polish and Czech animations, but these are mostly unknown (I think) outside Eastern Europe. Music is sadly unreleased and I think it will never be released. Polish composers are great (even music for kids was beautiful), you mentioned Reksio, but also Bolek i Lolek, Miś Kolargol, Baltazar Gąbka, Miś Uszatek (very popular in ... Japan!) and many more had wonderful music.

Also Czech animations had lovely music Krtek and A je to! were I supposed most popular, but also Rumcajs, Křem�lek and Vochomůrka, Vodn�k Čes�lko, O makov� panence a mot�lu Emanuelovi.
And don't forget Russian animation, but here music was not so prominent, as far as I can remember.

Somehow I still prefer our Eastern music to Disney. Well, but that's just me. Ech, memories...

Yes, I have to say, I really have no experience of the old Disney classics, so I was surprised at the results (although The Lion King was predictable). I'm glad HTTYD came in 2nd. I'll have to give Lion King a listen at some point. :) And yes, WALL-E deserves a higher spot, but 6th isn't bad. I was annoyed it didn't come in at least 5th so that I could do a logo for it. :)

Well deserved! He is probably the best Disney composer of them all. Sure, there are a couple of composers who did only 1 or 2 score's for Disney and they were amazing (Goldsmith's Mulan), but he made MANY!! He is synonymous with Disney in my opinion!

I have to say, I am becoming more and more blown away by the sheer quality of Mancina's Planes: Fire and Rescue. It is simply superb - it just gets better and better throughout the running time, building to an utterly thrilling final 20 minutes. I sincerely hope the sessions for this one leak soon. And I haven't even seen the film yet!

My god if anyone can get the soundtrack to the animated film "TWICE UPON A TIME" directed by John Corty (A george lucas production) Id be eternally grateful. It has a wonderful score with some great songs.

8m19 An Arguement / You're Mufasa's Boy / Remember. A little over 2 min into the cue there's a duduk that plays the main theme of the film. It's when Rafiki is singing and throwing the rocks at Simba. That segment right there is my absolute favorite piece of film music. Ever.

But NOT the version off The Legacy Collection. Some moron at Disney or RCP decided to remove the duduk, therefore it's not the film mix. I was heartbroken upon discovering this and it's why I never bought it.

Just listened to those two cues recommended by Mr Gold. Very nice. I can see why it's a favourite. But I think I'll definitely appreciate it more when I've seen the film. Am I right in guessing the 11 minute mark in "The Rightful King" is the end of the film where the screen cuts to black before the beginning of the credits?

Yes it is sull. It is the fight of pride rock/simba vs scar/scar dies/the rain that puts out the fire/simba accention to king and the new cub.
Then the sing busa is played for the credits until the elton john song.

Personally, I'd avoid the Legacy Collection and stick with the leaked complete score - there were some really weird mixing decisions with the official release that replaced some of the ethnic instruments and choral bits with weird-sounding samples.

8m19 An Arguement / You're Mufasa's Boy / Remember. A little over 2 min into the cue there's a duduk that plays the main theme of the film.

Or, to be precise, one of the main themes. That motif for Simba sort of shares the spot for "main" material with Mufasa's theme, which serves as a prominent idea representing both his father and the position he must fill for his subjects. It makes the ending cue all the more satisfying when we open with one final rendition of Mufasa's theme and then it segues(with a reference to Zimmer and Mancina's previous work, Millennium) into the triumphant variant of Simba's, signifying him finally taking his rightful place.

I always liked the thematic complexity within TLK's score. The film has the standard run time for most of the traditionally animated Disney features, and yet it still manages to pack in around a dozen reoccurring motifs for a number of characters and situations. Some are utilized more than others, but are still leitmotifs all the same.

I'm shamefully behind on many animated films, but a few come to mind: Mark Macina's "Brother Bear", Gregson-Williams' "Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas", James Newton Howard's "Atlantis: The Lost Empire". First "Shrek", too. Newman's "Ice Age". And of course two of my absolute, all-time favorites I really couldn't live without: "Batman: The Animated Series" and "Batman: Mask of the Phantasm".

I was heartbroken upon discovering this and it's why I never bought it.

Foolish me - I bought it unheard and was incredibly disappointed.

Then there are the scores where one might fancy a particularly striking musical idea, but doesn't really have an entire body of work to gush over (Aladdin comes to mind, where "One Jump Ahead" becomes a really endearing leitmotif for the titular character, but there isn't an official complete score release to get all the juiciness out of it).

Spirit is my holy grail, as you all know.

The HTTYD franchise is awesome, particularly the first one. Can't wait for another entire Dragons score for the final instalment of the trilogy!

Goodness that's hard. For general listening I'd go with older classic Disney soundtracks to be honest, often more for the vocal tracks rather than for the isolated scores . Not especially keen on some of the modern ones though. In the order that they popped into my mind:

Frozen (I know "Let It Go" has been battered to death, but I do like the music anyway)

Mary Poppins (well it has animated sections, does that count?)
