This was one of three of my first film scores I purchased... back in high school. Still have it. A unique score, unique packaging, unique LP. Wish I had bought the "Wildfire Key" that was also available at the theater.

Wish I could have invested more time in the restoration... but youngsters today can catch a glimpse of what it looked like... and how many years it has taken for it to appear on compact disc.

Just something fun for a movie that still holds up after so many years. ;-)

Well done for your efforts Phideas1!

I attempted to scan my copy as well a while ago, but my scanner wasn't up to it and neither was my image stitching programme. I tried many times but just gave up in the end. In addition, the album cover is a bitch to scan too what with all the silvery parts flaring all the time. :(

Kudos to you! :)

It needed to be scanned in Photoshop as partial images, then rotated appropriately and matched as a variety of layers before flattening. After which the faded blacks returned to the original quality. The silver, fancy kaleidoscope 'petals' cover could use more work. But this is enough to give the general idea.

Years ago I had a professional transfer this LP to CD before the Intrada release, and he found it a nightmare since his software detected ALL the sound as defect errors (not music) and also the LP itself, being cut into six sides, destroyed its integrity.

It is nice to have this 'sonic atmosphere' of a score available after decades.... an unusual and yet totally appropriate background to this great film.

Those reputations are well earned,my friend.

As to this movie,I agree with Phideas that it is a great film. I first saw it the same year I graduating high school in 1971. It was at a local drive inn theater, with my girl friend at the time and I sitting in my 1963 Impala SS 409.

Ah,the good old days!

There was obviously a misunderstanding here, so there's no need to be nasty about it.

I understand the shape as I have seen this film many times. My remark still stands as it is very unusual notwithstanding for a vinyl record.

When I had the LP remastered to CD, it was very difficult because first the music was not music and caused the noise reduction program to misfire and second the cutting of the LP ruined its quality as a disc. But it was very much a publicity ploy and cause to pay attention to when the tone arm would accidentally repeat play.

Oh boy oh boy oh boy! Another release from my favourite label.
I don't know how I missed this one. Admittedly not one of my favourite soundtracks, though, I am really interested in seeing what magic you've worked with it.
I got the "official" release of this one in the late 70s or early 80s, via an ad in Starlog magazine. I don't know if many people here can remember the days when sf soundtracks could be counted on the fingers of both hands, but there was a time when this was a very rare and special occasion indeed. I parenthesized "official" because the soundtrack came on a tape cassette from Gil Melle himself. So thank you, ArtBis, for bumping this thread, and of course, again, thank you, Spectre8750, for your magic.

Hmmm, it finally occurred to me that the name Spectre8750 rings bells. So excuse me for a while while I see if I can kick-start this decrepit memory into action. It'll come to me...
