So I never played one single FF game...ever...I am curious now since I see it on Itunes for Ipad though. I love fantasy sword fighting games. I love medieval games. I always loved the Baldurs Gate series and Neverwinter, Icewind, Lord of the rings games, Age of Empires etc...etc...More modern I guess is games like Dark Souls (I've only just begun that also), Dragon Age, Dragons Dogma is nice. I like games where I can control a sword or a bow or an axe and go out and reck a stuff for justice. I remember playing Fire Emblem a little for game boy and that was ok and I jut found that I have FF tactics advanced for gameboy. I want to try out one that will keep my interest though and possibly get me into the series...

My main question is...if I were going to start playing FF now...where should I start?

Hmmm... If you want an easy introduction to the series, with a chapter which doesn't require too much effort on your part, pick VIII for a start: the beginning part will likely drag a bit, but you don't even need to train/grind-EXP. for your characters.

Really. I was going to say start with either FF III or FFIV. Both have great stories and a variety of mechanics that seen in later games.

If you like the traditional sword and sorcery style games, then I'd suggest starting with Final Fantasy Tactics on the PlayStation. Has the same medieval feel to it, similar to the games you mentioned. It is a strategy RPG though, so it plays differently than a standard RPG.

Actually if your going with Tactics, the iPad version has a complete new translation of the text making the story much more clear. Also has new anime vids and rebalanced jobs. I think it, along with the psp version is the definitive version.
