I swear it's the hardest FF i played. But it's cool since i like a challenge. There's lots of complicated stuff like Junction and GF system. (Having to always have 100 of each spell is time-consuming)

Everyone give your opinions here as it was fun/hard for me i wanna hear what it was like for you:)

Durendal

I'd hardly call this the hardest FF. Doing nothing but summoning GFs all the time will get you past 3/4 of the game.

Junctioning wasn't that complicated, just time consuming, and putting in lots of hours does not mean the game is hard.

The opening fmv got me so excited about this game when I first put it in my playstation, I can't remember being more excited about playing a game than I was about FF8. Too bad it all went downhill from there.

what bad taste you have! i <3 ff8. and you still dont like dolph, either ;_;

it definitely wasnt the hardest. i died the most in 7 or x. i hardly ever perished in 8. and i never died in 9, so 9 gets my vote (plus it was made to be super easy).

Bad taste? I still enjoyed the game, it just wasn't the most bestest uber rocking game ever that the opening movie led me to believe :p

One of these days you and I are going to get together and watch every Dolph movie ever made, then I will be proven right once and for all

The only actual hard part of FFVIII I can remember is fighting Diablos when you first get that lamp.

I've changed my mind about Dolph, we'd be great friends, both of us are mentally challenged after all

I found the game very easy. After a couple of times through I can out my stats up pretty high. After I leave Balamb for Timber Squall has nearly 3000 hp. his strength is well over 100. I never even summon a GF.

I thought X was alot harder.

Personally, I don't think any of the final fantasys were hard.... maybe the weapons in final fantasy 7, but that's just about it. I always seemed to have my characters up at the perfect level and had good enough equipment. FFX-2 is the easiest if you're not trying to hit for a 100% score... trying to do that without the game FAQs is a bit challenging.

Definitely the hardest of the Playstation era FF games.
Some of the old nintendo ones were ridiculously tough.
FF8 can be very hard if you make the wrong decisions about leveling up and dont utilize your GFs. Make sure you are getting stronger faster than your enemies. Find cactuars and get Item Refinement. Also, its probably the hardest when it comes to knowing where to go without help from a strategy guide or walkthrough. I know I was stumped about where to go in many places, not so much by the actual fighting.

Well I found VIII difficult only in the game where I remained low leveled to increase my stats later with cactuar. Even though I'm low leveled the game is still one of the easier ones. My Squall (at level 9 and right after Timber) Has well over 3000HP and is in the 100's with his Strength. (Same with Zell and Rinoa except for Rinoa she has over 100 magic not strength) The game is easy it all depends on junctioning. See the only way I have those stats is because I'm a crazy card player and have a full stock of Pains, Meltdowns, Tornados, Quakes, Deaths, and even waters.

FF8 isn't hard at all! You can just whiz through disc 1 and 2 by summoning GFs non-stop (it's so cool how you can use it as much as you want without wasting any of that blast MP =P) and whiz through disc 3 and 4 by belting everything with limit breaks. That's no fun, but that was how I beat the game twice in three months =P You want hard, play FFTA *shudders*

Good luck on your next FF8 game, Terra Fire. BTW, FF8 is not hard at all, and the junction system is really simple. I finished FF8, and I didn't use a GF a SINGLE TIME. FF8 is not really that hard once you get the hang of it.
Terra Fire, a little advice for FF8: get as many cards as possible. You can refine magic, items and also materials for new weapons with the right GF abilities. I had tons of cards nad I had no problems with items or magic. Hope you listen to my advice - it's gonna make your life a lot easier. ^_^

I have very little concept of how hard ff games are. This is because of the insane amount of leveling up I do. I usually have Squall at level 25 before the field exam. Plus, I get 100 tornadoes for his str stat from abyss worm cards. So he has attack over 100 before the field exam. Really all you have to do to make FFVIII way too easy is learn how to junction stuff. In my opinion, FFI was the hardest just because you had to level up at every city, even when you're not playing with all thieves.

I don't think it was really that hard. If anything, it would be easier, because you can't be "weak." Since the monsters level up with you, it's really not possible to be weak. Also, GFs, if using them enough times, could wipe out any bosses. That was easy too, because there were no limitations on using them.

I found FFVIII to be the perfect difficulty level. It was challenging and interesting. I couldn't stand X--there weren't any side quests... and everything was just too.. elementary? The graphics were amaizing! But I just couldn't take it anymore. I quit ten a few hours into the game. I hate that it was horrible. I've even tried replaying it.. but still there's the lack of interest! However; Final Fantasy VIII will prevail!
I have a question: Is VII anything at all like VIII? Is it just as good? Is it better (like I've been told--unbelievably!)? Is it worth playing at all? Thanks!

Omega Weapon... Not even going to start. Also final battle was hard, especially when she had that move that brought all your health down to 1.

8 WAS the hardest.

definitly.
the first time thru, it was so hard that i could literally draw the "Game Over" screen by heart. i wasn't really good at the junction system, and i could barely beat the monsters. for example:
Ruby Dragon= instant game over.
a group of 3 Imps= instant game over.
an Iron Giant= instant game over.
T- Rexuar= instant game over
I couldn't even beat Shpinxuar, the first boss in Ultemecia Castle. i started the game over, i sucked that bad.
but the second time, i did a LOT better. i still died alot, but knew how to junction right. I even beat Ultima Weapon.
I'm now on my third way thru, at the part where u meet Quistis at the meeting center, and Squall is on lvl. 40, and i still die every once in a while. (Damn T- Rexuars!)
This is the time when i master FF8 once and for all. Maybe Omega Weapon will help me get re- aquainted with the "Game Over" screen...

No way.

Final Fantasy VIII might be mildly challenging at best, in respect of getting used to the junctioning, menus, commands, and so on, but past that its pretty simple. Even with hard bosses, most times I just held tapped x for attack and never bothered with magic. The trick is, knowing leveling up will actually cause enemies to level up with you. The best way to simply avoid this, is to maximize AP while minimizing exp, and getting strong exotic spells to junction. This causes enemies to have low levels while a person has extraordinary stats.

One of the hardest Final Fantasy games is easily Final Fantasty Tactics. You want a challenge, this is the real game to play.

Whoever said FF8 was the first to have the enemies level up with you was an idiot, Tactics did it first. And Tactics remains the most difficult FF of any of the PSX releases, bar none.

How can i get those "strong" and "exotic" spells when the monsters that i'm fighting are at low levels? I found that if u level up, then the monsters level up, and then as the monsters level up, they have better spells to draw from. For example, i could never get quake from T- Rexuar if i get minimum exp, not leveling up? The monster won't level up, so that spell won't be available, only some thundara. the same for the blue flyin bird outside of Deling City, Thrusuvius (where i can draw tornado from) and some other monsters.

The Joker
11-26-2004, 10:01 PM
Its rather simple:

You get them from you ability magic refine and drawing points. It can be time consuming, but its rather easy. You can simply steal items from an enemy without killing them, you can refine low magic to medium, medium to high, and so on down the line.

You can find a ton of these spells on a certain island on FF8, I forget whats it called. It has stuff like meteor, ultima, etc. Then, you take into account the use of cards to refine items as well. Further consider, does FF8 not have a level up and level down command? So that you could selectively level up a monster, steal its magic, and then run if you feel like it?

All of these are long process, but they are not that difficult.

FFVIII wasn't that hard... once you've got used to (or had someone explain {the system} enough times!!) the junctioning, and drawing magic from anywhere and everywhere!!! mind you... i think junctioning's easier than the Sphere Grid (which i HATE!!!!!) in FFX... but that might only be because FFVIII's the first in the series that i played.

I think so long as you stack levels in certain places, and don't try and rush through the game (examples being up to Vegnagun in X-2 with only 37% completion!!!!!!!!!!! and up to Sin in FFX without any 3rd level spells etc... yes, i DO keep meaning to re-start and do it properly, but in my defence, i did both those files in less than 2 weeks simultaneously!!) none of the games (not counting 1-6) are particularly difficult.

the first final fantasy I played was FF8 .. Now if you don't remember then play it again because wasn't it the first one with tutorials and weren't they awfully boring if you played it again ? So to say that the junction system was hard ... then you didn't pay attention, I got it from the first second ...
then I played FF9, now that was EASY ..
I did FF7 too, he's a little harder than FF8
Now I'm playing FF6 .. He hasn't been too hard for me yet, I'm in the changed world already ..

Overall : FF6-FF9 : FF7 is the hardest

also that the enemies level up with you but i kinda like that becuase then you dont have to search for a place to get good expierence when u get to higher levels.
oh yea, that too......that was a god thing and a bad thing cuz then they aren't too easy *no experience* or too hard *game over*

the juction at first was hard but it's actually easy, and all the stuff in there are easy, all the bosses of course, well... maybe except for omega weapon...
but all in all, it's easy.

ultimecia is not hard, the battle is easy, but long
i just finish her battle for like 10 - 20 minutes.

I'd say yes, ff8 is the hardest compared to all of them but it's my fave and it wasn't that hard so long as you dont compare it to the other ffs

i thought ffIX was hard as shit. i never got into it, and i sucked. FFVIII is a piece of crumb cake compared to IX or even VII. even the fight with omega weapon was very possible, as i beat him w/o using any heros/holy wars/invincible moon on my second try. i was surprised, too, that no one could put up a good fight after i beat ultimecia 10 times, but there you go.

I loved this game. I thought it was the best Final Fantasy.

DuckyOnIce --- please don't go digging for old threads, especially to say things aren't even particularly related to the topic anyway. Also, please try to include more substance to your posts, instead of posting simple one-line declaratives for every message.

Thanks, but for anyone else, take further opinions of your general feelings of the game to the thread "What Makes FFVIII Stand / Fall" at the top. This thread is only to discuss the relative difficulty or easiness of the game.
