i was just wondering what everybody thought of the upcoming FFXII, and how they're taking out random battles, and making it more like a mix between an online and offline RPG?

Well personally I can't wait to get FF12 and since the battle system with FF11 was so cool the battle system on FF12 will be good. Although I am quite comfy with the ATB from other titles. But still we all know FF12 is going to rock.

So, you are saying that since the battle system with the most recent Final Fantasy was good, that the next one is automatically going to be good as well? That's pretty dumb.

Let me rephrase that for you:

You believe that FFXII is going to rock, and you only say that we all know it's going to rock just so that you can sound smart.

Also, from what I have seen so far of the game, I have yet to be impressed with it.

Final Fantasy XII looks interesting... up until this point, I had assumed that Final Fantasy XI was out of phase with the series, but FF12's is using RTB (real-time battle, as opposed to ATB [active-time battle] which was used in previous games) as well.

At first I had my misgivings regarding AI controlled computer players, but after playing FF11 and Star Ocean: Till the End of Time, i realized it makes it a much more exciting experience - it's no less tactical than other RPGs, and is infact more complex, because of the way positioning affects battles as well.

I'm looking forward to FF12 - but i've got a feeling it's going to be the 'FF9' of the PlayStation2 FF trilogy - it's coming late in the PlayStation2's cycle, which means that we're going to be seeing the first hints of PlayStation3 games - so it will be most likely underappreciated, but still a good game.

FF12 looks pretty cool.. but that's all we can say right up to this point. "It looks cool." We'll just have to wait until the game comes out in February... that's when it's being released, right?

@Smokey: What he was saying is the battle system in XII is the same or similar to the one in XI (i.e. RTB with no random encounters over ATB random encounters), not that the system in XI meant the one in XII would rock.

Anyway....
It looks interesting. X showed that Square could at least appreciate, if not create, a good story, and XI showed the potential for huge, detailed worlds.

I don't know. Maybe it'll be good, maybe not.

damn you kids and yur new waves. FF is being destroyed by this RTB system. HELLO...MCFLY? XI ruined the series what a horrible game! Now i can see the stupid enemies comin at me?!?! that aint good, #1 there will be alot of posts from guys and gals sayin i aint strong enough to beat so and so. DUH STUPID you should have been fighting instead of avoiding. I for one am guilty with a capital T of trying to avbid battles. I would certainly be more pisssed off if i could avoid then be stuck later because i did. Bring back ATB make the battles random and Quite PHUCKING with FF.

Cheese goes well with whine.

If you don't like the way it looks, get over it and just don't play it. Also learn to spell properly.

Then it's your own damn fault if you're not strong enough. If you're that desperate to continue the story, go watch a movie. Or even better, read a book.

Do you want it to go back to the good old classics like the super-awesome FFVII?

personally i have only played ffXI once, so i can't say much about it, but i don't know if i like being able to avoid battles, but i did like the System on the MMORPG's (ffXI and DAoC) I don't know how well it will work with an offline game though. Soo pretty much i am undecided. don't get me wrong though, i am way excited for FFXII!! :)

I'm really exicited about FFXII due to the new battle system. Lately I've been getting more and more used to real-time battles (a la Star Ocean3 TOT) so the RTB system will be a welcome change for me. THe story being centered on war is also a greeat interest to me.

Same here, cant wait for the game! ^_^ Several reviews say that the battle system is good and different, and that there are characters who can use different kinds of weapons. the environment too,(based on the pics i've seen) is breathtaking.

They're going for the realistic look now. Looking at the battles, it doesn't seem too like RTB, I read it was something like Dimension Time Battle (DTB), which is unique system never used before (I think). But it's meant to be similar to RTB.

It looks like a big game. It's meant to emphasize on volume. I'm hoping to like it, but some reviews haven't been too positive.

Here's a question? How come there isn't a single mention of FFII on the Square-Enix Official Website? How do we know the game itself isn't an elaborate hoax concocted by a combonation of well informed liars, and the internet rumor mill. Come to think of it, the whole evolution of the game thus far could have been a result of the rumor mill.

I personally think the game really exists, I've seen no convincing evidence to it's existence. Just a thought.

did you see Rissa's link? It's obvious that the game exists. Its nonexistence is out of the question.

ahh it's ovious there gone to make ff12 or they will proberly go bankrupt

Zachron

I clicked the link, and the link, like all the other links I saw was to a web site that was in no way linked to the Square-Enix Corporation. . . And can't you see a little sarcasm. Frankly I honestly don't care whether or not the game is really being made. If they are making it, then I'd like to play it. I'm just saying, I haven't seen any convincing evidence. The only real evidence that the game is really being made, is Square-Enix's tenacity when it comes to making games, and the inevitability that the game will eventually be made.

I'm not asking for people to argue that it does exist. I'm asking for someone to show a link to a website that is acutally affiliated with the Square-Enix Corporation that gives something, anything, even if it's just a picture of Ashe picking her nose, to verify that Square-Enix is actually making the game. This isn't a matter of questioning the existence of the game. What rather, I'm questioning is the reliability of news sites to accurately provide information. And the question I pose is, should the latest rumor spreading around a news site be taken as truth, especially when different news sites have in the recent past sent contradictory information about this game? Sometimes information has even ben fabricated by the news sites because they have not received anything but the same teasers everyone else got, and they had to have something to make sales. Now the integritiy of the internet news industry is hardly beyond reproach, and numerous rumors have already been started as a means to confuse readers and undermine the game's sales. I'm just saying, that if it did turn out that the game is just an elaborate hoax to increase magazine sales, then I'd just laugh my ass off. Then Square-Enix would either find themselves the plaintiffs or the defendants in a class-action international law suit. Knowing this, if the game did start out as a hoax, then naturally they would have to start producing a real game, and the game would have to be a good one, so no one would think they just slapped something together to save their rears. Conclusion. If the game is real, we can expect it to come out soon. If the game was originally a hoax, we can still expect the game to come out soon.

sorry, but i find the idea that square enix not making the game would be ridiculous. and i don't quite understand what you're questioning. no other company would dare to intrude on squaresoft and square enix's copywritten work. for, let's say, Sierra to make FFXIII would be a breach of copyright, from my understanding.

here (http://www.square-haven.com/games/ps2/ffxii/) is a link that lists commentaries about the truancy and lack of information that Square Enix has apologized for. i hope it clears it up for you somewhat.

My only concern is the lack or focus on a love story >< I play FF for its deep story driven approaches and developing relationships play a huge part in that. Be it a sad or happy ending......look at how the love story in FF7 alone influenced its popularity....
