Um....ESPN NFL 2K5 is a bloody good football game holy hell. The graphics particularly the pad definement and jersey wrinkles and shading/lighting make me weep, it's got "authentic ESPN commentary" where the commentators are unbelievably better than Madden and it also has very small little broadcast things such as the voices on injuries and stuff that just makes me say "Wow."

As for the gameplay, the fact that you can either tap X to sprint or hold it to turn yourself into a wrecking ball and the fact that you can actually break tackles realistically (unlike Madden) is great as is the camera view/camera zooms and swivels in actual gameplay. One downfall is the frequent interceptions but besides that the passing game is very crisp as well as the running game.

Also, The Crib is an awesome addition and provides "fueling" for you to keep playing the game and the VIP system took EA Sports Bio and made it loads better.

Anyone else ever played this game?

I find sports games (except for rare gems like SSX, and of course, all racing games) to be inane and boring... just like the thing itself.

How anyone can find gridiron interesting is beyond me - AFL is the only way to go, and even the AFL games are crap :(

AFL as in Arena Football League? There are games for that? O_o

And ok since you like racing games, have you played the new Nascar: Chase for the Cup 2005 game? That is fucking awesome too.

No, as in Australian Football League, you silly, silly man.

Oh, and Nascar sucks too. If I want to race around a V8 around a giant oval, i'll take my Ford XR8 onto Super Speedway in Gran Turismo 3. Or, i'll play V8 Supercars 2, which is a game based on our equivalent to NASCAR, which is much more interesting.

TRY AGAIN.

Have you played the game because there's a lot more to it than that.

There's modifieds and trucks and hobby stocks and street races and all sorts of awesome shit. And that's just what you have for racing options.

Generally speaking, I'm not a big sports game fan. Good "extreme sports" games, ala SSX are fun, as are the sports games that aren't especially serious, like the street games, but I can't fathom how anyone could get into the standard sports type games, even if they are a fan of the sport. I like hockey, but lord knows every hockey game I've ever played has bored me completely.

Haha good ol' Street...where would I be in life without my NBA Street Vol. 2 copy and multitap? :swoon:

As for standard sports games, I play them and normally I'm not that excited about them but this game is just really, really good. Also, THPS PWN'S YOU ALL!!!!1111!111!!!1

OK, two games I actually agree with you on - NBA Street Vol. 2 is less like a Basketball game, and more like some trippy experience that one must live through before they die. It's a virtual hallucinagen.

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater is also a worthwhile diversion, just because the control system is so intuitive - Treyarch's Spider-Man 2 is better though. And honestly, there are many similarities.

I heard you could customize your guy dealie in Tiger Wood's Golf Games. Hot Shots Golf seems to be a favorite over here.

Never played either but yeah, on Tiger Woods you can make your own courses with weather and stuff (to the point where it is like arcade mode)

Also, wtf you talkin about Spider-Man 2 controls being the same as THPS? I don't see the comparison at all :(

Speaking of Spider-Man 2, that game was in fact MUCH better than the original and the original itself was pretty decent but some things I don't like on that game......the side-missions where you talk to people all around town are very predictable and you'll find yourself doing the exact same mission after about 4 or 5 others. Also, a lot of the buildings and such just seem a bit bland and lacking detail. Other than that though I love how the game takes a "serious" note from the movies but still makes it comical and semi-cheesy.

Ok, for starters, Treyarch is the group that's responsible for the THPS conversions to the Xbox - so they've had a lot of experience with it.

Spider-Man 2 is very much based on scoring points to purchase upgrades to improve your character. You score these points via combat combos - much like the combos in THPS. There is a large environment with many diverse missions, that you can take at any time.

The combo controls, like THPS, are very intuitive, and make a game that is easy to learn but difficult to master.

Who cares about all that, everyone knows the most fun in Spiderman is Wallsprinting up the Empire State Building, Charge Jumping off the top and falling ALL THE WAY TO THE GROUND AND WEBZIPPING AT THE LAST INSTANT.

I kind of hoped it would be more fun just to not web-zip away. Maybe I'd get this really awesome splat noise or something.

But yeah. Falling off the empire state building = not too gratifying.

Well, there's always a bunch of people near the bottom that get bowled aside when I webzip away at the bottom of that huge drop, and lots of "Hey, watch it!"s and such.

And occasionally, I webzip right into the path of a car--which takes a good chunk of health at that speed. :D

And yeah, I've let him just fall that far before, but no satisfying splat sound. Just a light crunch and fall over after standing up again. :(

What's that all about?

Probably because I don't feel some need to justify my masculinity by prancing around on a field in short shorts?

And I actually like some sports just fine - the Olympics is a great display of human achievement, but without the grandstanding of other sports.

Except for the American sprinters, but we all know what happened to G.O.A.T. boy.

I really don't like many sports games, because I could just watch them on television. The only ones I really get into are the ones from Nintendo. They make them more fun and exciting to play, so those are the only sports games I ever play.

Only sports games I buy are from the Pro Evolution Soccer series. Even so, I'm not sure if I'm investing in PES4.
