It ain't complete because these songs were ripped from the game's website.
But then again, no one knows how to properly extract music from a Wii U Game Disc so it will take a LOOONG time until a proper rip surfaces.

No, there are worse things out there. High or low audio quality is a subjective preference, not an objective determinant. As for the composers, that is simply the only source available at this time. Maybe it's a mistake on my part, but there's no way of knowing that unless they release official information before the 30th. Besides, my upload is simply a compilation of early-released music, not the official soundtrack; whether the information is correct or not, this is meant to tide everyone over in the meantime. Pet peeves aside, there's no harm in that.

What relase date official OST?

The Ultimate Koopa
05-06-2014, 03:55 PM
Currently, there is no official OST confirmed. But I'm seeing many clues that an OST is likely to be released.

Firstly, it's recorded with a live orchestra (for most of the music). Therefore the music is so good that they CAN'T not release an OST.

Secondly, they posted something on facebook about the music, with a link to watch the live medley of 3 tracks from the Nintendo Direct.

Sure these may seem very very vague, but it could be subtle hints.

Anyway, the music is awesome, as I said. Why wouldn't they release an OST?

Hi, I don't know if this will help as an idea for how good a quality the already uploaded tracks are... but I'm planning my own rip straight from the GamePad thanks to replays having the option of music only. Here is Cloudtop Cruise, so see if the quality as a 320 rip is any clearer:

The terminology was a little tricky, because while it wasn't an "original" soundtrack, it wasn't an "official" one either (as far as it being a CD goes), so I wasn't sure what to label it. Maybe just "Mario Kart 8 Soundtrack"? Regardless, thank you for the suggestion. It's fixed. =3

Actually, you don't even need to set the length at all. Even if it's set to 30 seconds, after the 30 second highlights reel, it just keeps repeating the reel, however, the music just plays constantly.

I downloaded 1080p videos of the tracks and then converted them into High Quality MP3s. Which means I have to go through and retag everything/find the right links/yadada. I don't know why, but that seems to keep the 1080p quality. I'll let other people be the judge of that. Figured I'd just give it off while people wait.

Akashi San
06-05-2014, 07:03 PM
Up-converting doesn't increase quality. Since YouTube audio is lossy to begin with, your transcoding degraded the quality even further.

Not that I don't appreciate your work, but it's not better than the YouTube playlist.

a lot of people overestimate Nintendo's willingness to release OSTs. yes they did it for SMG1 and 2, and 3D World, but name another full length OST they've done in recent years? Pokemon and Nintendo Club sound samplers don't count.

The CD releases are directly connected to the budget of the scores. So the two Galaxies and 3D World got CDs, Skyward Sword got the anniversary CD double-banked into its orchestra sessions... I'm telling you - if they spend a lot of money on the music they tend to make the most out of it (don't forget that Club Nintendo is funded by a subsidy on game purchases, so they can technically advance music budget from that cash pool by co-producing the CD soundtracks). The funding for the live music in Mario Kart 8 will have been boosted by an advance from the Club Nintendo kitty.

It's deemed less important to release synthetic music on CD in a completist fashion, because there's much less financial incentive to do so, hence the compilations. They're a different beast, really.

I really wouldn't worry though, the Mario Kart 8 double CD will be here before you know it, even if only in Japan. :)

With Mario Kart TV, you could select to watch a replay with "music only" and change the length to "full." So in theory, just go REALLY slow (finish a race in 5 minutes or so), record your MKTV replay via capture device, just extract music and done!

I say "in theory" because I haven't personally tested this yet. I'll see what I can do, but if someone else wants to try, feel free.

I mean, what you're doing here is great. Sure, it seems rather crazy but by letting this music out to the masses you're letting people hear wonderful sounds. I love music, and I can't imagine a world without it. The MK8 music is truly inspiring to me as I want to master some of the instatements that are in most of the songs, and by listening I can further expand my musical knowledge as I tend to learn by my listening with my ears.
