First, sorry if I made any mistakes on my English. Please point them out right here if you would like. Thank you! I'm Chinese and I've been trying to do better.

This music is a Webrip from a Chinese video site. Same label as the web site shows. No other information.

I'm not sure about it (the video was uploaded 23 days ago) and I must say I barely know a thing about this composer.
But I would like to consider it one of Alexandre’s score work.

So have a listen and tell me about it. :)

This could be real.......if it's so this cue sounds very interesting.......but the sound quality is extremley awful.......for a first impression ok but for a good listening experience? no way..........XD

Doesn't sound like him. Other than the brass writing (Desplat mentioned that the score will have lots of brass). The rest it doesn't sound like what the score is gonna be. Especially since the score will be much more Japanese sounding than the previous Godzilla scores.

Also, even if it's real, you can tell that it's several cues mixed into one (for example, the first cue fades out at 1:18).

Doesn't sound like real orchestra at the start. I would say this is not Desplat's score... at least not his final score.

Amanda

We know it will be "Japanese sounding"? The film doesn't look to actually take place entirely IN Japan....?

I don't think so, Desplat is more orchestral and this sounds like a demo from a Zimmer score

FilmScore1978
04-08-2014, 03:54 PM
That doesn't sound anything like Zimmer, it actually has melodies.

I think it sounds very orchestral but, the quality is so bad that it gives the whole file a digitized sound. To my ears though, I hear more orchestra in that track then electronics. It definitely sounds like something Desplat may have composed, sounds similar to Rise of the Guardians to me. Desplat is quickly growing on me, especially after Monuments Men, which is my favorite score of the year so far, probably the last few years.

Really not sure about this.
It does NOT sound like LIVE orchestra ALL THE WAY THROUGH.
If this is a Demo or so - Desplat can write in various styles so I personally can not judge by that.

Either way, in a little more than a month or so we'll know for sure. :)

it is set partially in Japan btw...

Amanda
04-08-2014, 05:14 PM
To be fair, the only NON Japanese sounding score was the 98 release, since all of the others were, you know, Japanese productions....:D

Brandon O'Brian
04-08-2014, 06:28 PM
Yeah, this can't be real. I do know the orchestra is supposed to be massive, and that the music is in tone with Mr. Ifukube's music. We won't know much until the film is released in May.

caball
04-08-2014, 09:54 PM
I believe it's fake all the way trough. No live intrument attached, the ethnic sound, promised by Desplat is at least unevident as the electric violin. And, first of all, Desplat tends to talk about his G-score as about something very inspirited by Ifukube works and styles, and there is none of those... Shame.

Then this cue definitiveley is not from the actual Godzilla-Score.... as Brandon said Alexandre Desplat assembled a massive orchestra with lots of brass and japanese instrumentation...this also was quoted by Conrad Pope (one of the orchestrators) on his Facebook-Site...and there is really nothing of that to be heared in this cue........I think we all must be patient to wait for the release of the real score.......

I agree with you in a way. Just I really can not be touched by a full orchestral score, yet I think that Arnold's 1998 Godzilla score is great.

Harry Potter, Twilight, all I know about the composer.... Not a fan of full orchestra.

You guys must know that Zimmer is much much more famous than any others among Hollyword composers in China.
I been “selling” Brian Tyler for years among Chinese film music forums. Now he's got his credits and fans(I'm a big one). BTW, Tyler's most well-known score is F&F / Battle LA.

And, believe it or not, it seems that the most welcomed Hollywood score in 2013 is Oblivion. I learn it from a vote on a Chinese film music site.

Perhaps because a synth score like that is more of a rarity in areas of the world still excelling in orchestral score? How can orchestral score "not touch you" but a synth one can? All synth does is replicate an orchestral mostly?

Real orchestra at least - could be a motiv or even the theme for Godzilla - let's wait for more.

Yea. A minute is not even a taste. Could just be general ambiance or transitional. Or, could even have been cooked up for the site. Are we sure they are actually using Desplat's score even?

I can't say... I thnik Titanic and LOTR are great scores. And as I said, David Arnold's orchestral score for Godzilla(1998) is very good, also his work on Independence Day.
I guess what I mean was that there are less and less, good or not so, orchestral scores nowadays...to me...

PS:I gotta say I'm not that in John Williams' so called masterpieces....

Amanda
04-10-2014, 05:15 AM
But Williams is hardly the only orchestral composer, even today. I....of course love a lot of his stuff, but others not as much. I am not suggesting you should, just curious how the real thing does not work when a replicated one does? Either way I am aware that there are many that dislike the older scores in favor of newer works that they feel are masterpieces. It boggles me, but I accept. I do see that as an age generational thing more often than not though (though I am also aware it has been discussed way too often lately).
