So Square announced another FF7 title, dirge of Cerberus, which stars Vincent, and that's pretty much all we know about this.
It's part of "Compilation of Final Fantasy VII", along with Before Crises and Advent Children.
I forgot what this means. Will they put it all into one box and sell it to people? I'd like that.

I am still torn between "Do we really need even more FF7 games, can't we have something fresh and new instead?" and "Whhhhaahhhh it's Vincent, and he looks sexy!!!"

Kind of mixed feelings on this one:

On one hand, it just looks like SE is milking the FF7 name for all it's worth; but on the other, Vincent was one of those characters that--if taken advantage of in FF7--would've added a whole hell of a lot more depth to the story.

But yeah, Vincent was my favorite character, and should this come out in the US, I'll probably buy it.

But Before Crisis and Advent Children are highly unlikely as things I'd buy, just so you know.

I see this as only for the sole purpose of more money-milking for FFVII.

I would also have loved to see more about Vincent in the game, but for some reason, Square chose to leave a lot out. Now, it seems like, that they are analyzing every square inch of FFVII, and making a game or movie about the smallest thing that was missing.

This saddens me. :(

I'm not quite sure on this one. I suppose i cant pass judgement until a bit more information on it is released. Needless to say it's a bit unexpected :-\

As far as I read, there've been rumours for quite some time... And a few weeks ago, or so, a magazine did mention that there'd be a Vincent-focused game of some sort.

Interesting thing is that not even the genre has been announced yet. Hehe, I do wonder what kind of game this is.

Yeah well, they keep on trademarking titles, that's probably because they keep on making games with those titles.

Anyway, there's also a remake of Romancing SaGa coming, and an online game named "Fantasy Earth".
Along with Radiata Stories... they seem to be doing a lot, hm.

We will know more at the end of this month, after the TGS.

I must agree. Square Enix is definetly milking FFVII for all it's worth. However, this does look like it has some major potential. Could Square-Enix be trying to tap into action games with Dirge of Cerebus? I suppose we won't know for a while, but I will definetly buy this game, even if I have to import it from Japan. However, I do feel that with all of this attention and prestige surrounding the game, Square could treat it's fans to a remake, featuring overhauled graphics, sound, and gameplay. If they'd want to do it on the PS3, I'd wait for that.

Vincient was always the cool calm guy. Liked him and FFVII wasn't too shabby either. This game could suck balls, on the otherhand if they keep alot of stuff from FFVII it could actually be really cool. IE materia.

I think they should be after, judging by the look of Vincent and maybe his particular undead powers that remind me Reziel of Soul Reaver.

FF DoC plays one year after FF AC, so this means three years after FF VII. :)

I agree wit u ppl about it going to be a good game, but ya got to draw the line somewhere or SE's just gonna milk this thing dry, and then try for more. I think 2 things:

1. The FF saga is changing (fortunately), with FF12 no more random encounters etc; the saga won't die so easily.
2. I think that FF7 was great for the locations, the atmosphere and the ambientation:
the world of FF7 deserves to be continued, even with new games or movies, because it can be a huge source of inspiration.

The bad thing is: "Will those works be great works?"

Handy games, movie, new game.... and they all belong to FF-VII. :shock:

On the one side I am happy too, but on the other side I am a little scared, that everything with FF will loose its cult. I mean, if there is only a little of something, and people like it, it is great. If a company starts acting like they just try to make money out of everything, is terrible. To many things at the same time is not good for the fans, because they are overloaded. They pick a little here, a little there, but they never get the whole thing. :(

I believe more people like FFIX than FFVIII. All I know is that I couldn't stand FFVIII.

Let's imagine like DOC will be(in gameplay):

1. It will be VERY difficult that DOC won't be a clone of Devil May CRy:

A protagonist with a red cape, gun-skilled, that has dark powers to make good actions.... Sounds like Dante...

However, Vincent will use other weapons? Swords, etc...?

His guns maybe will have materia slots... It will be good, summoning magic and eons like in Kingdom Hearts, not only firing with guns.

Maybe there will be a sniper rifle, or particular weapons like that.
I hope that the gameplay will have more variety than Devil May Cry.

Will we see the other characters of FF7...?

Legacy of Kain Defiance
Metal Gear Solid (I saw stealth sections too)

i found vincent quite a misterious charactor in 7, and i quite liked that about him. but if we find a bit more about him in DOC i wouldnt really mind as long as his personalaty dosent chand=ge dramaticly. for example at the end of the game if vincent came out acting like selphie form 8 then i would be quite dissapointed.

Square Enix, smelling money, not only gave us a sequel in beautiful movie form (All of Square Pictures movies have been beautiful - Final Fantasy: TSW, Final Flight of the Osiris and now Advent Children), a mobile game where you can create your own materia (that we'll probably never see over here :() and a game expanding one of the most mysterious and unexplained characters of FF7.

Just because Final Fantasy X-2 was pure fan-service did not make it a bad game. Sure, it might have been too J-Pop for some people's tastes, but we knew that from the first trailer - Dirge of Cerberus is so far looking as dark and brooding as a game about Vincent should be.

Perhaps you should have some trust in the production values of the company that gave you FF7 in the first place.

It looks like a cool game based on the scans. I just hope it's not as disappointing as ffx-2 because i didnt enjoy that game that much...

the way i see it if they made X-2, they must of had a pretty good story to continue with and if VII was the best storyline ever then bring on Dirge

Everyone compares this game to Devil May Cry! That's all I hear lately, "Ooh, this game will suck because it's just like Devil May Cry, and Dante could beat Vincent hands down..."

I, however, have high hopes for this game. It's nice that Square is going in a different direction for this game than what they did to FFX-2. If all you play is RPGs (like me), then having an action game based on FFVII is all that it takes to keep me shut up.

Okay! I know you guys are mad, that Square-Enix is trying to milk FF7 for all that it is worth, but in all honesty. If you had a controling share in the corporation that owned the FF7 trademark, you'd be trying to milk it for all it's worth.

Now as for the game. We will only know once it comes over, and we get to play it ourselves. Frankly, I wouldn't mind playing a first person shoot-em-up with Vincent. I'd just love to be able to run around in Gigas form, hacking things apart with a chainsaw. Y'know what, it'll probably suck if it isn't an action game or a first person shoot-em-up. I don't see why this is a problem. Plus, you live in England. All you're probably gonna see for a while is a bootleg version of Advent Children. Good luck trying to complain about four FFVII spinoffs in the stores around there.

The idea for the game isn't bad, but man I hate it how we're getting three sequels to FFVII here in America- it's a bit much, but Japan also gets Before Crisis, can't you hear them saying they've had enough? ...Not really, seeing as how Japan loves FF. I have to say that this is the best video game idea for awhile, one cute mysterious guy kicking ass who's from FFVII, the one game that got me hooked on RPGs, with the one guy who made me love the "mysterious guy with a gun" stereotype.

But just releasing it next to Advent Children and Crisis Core makes it seem like Square is going a bit far with FFVII.

In my own opinion they really should have done something fresh here. The movie is a sequel, why do they need a game as well? Doesn't make sense to me to do this when they could be using their great minds to create other amazing games. Sure this game could be a great game, but make the game without telling it from FFVII's world.

Instead of trying to make all of this FFVII stuff they don't have to do, why don't they re-make FFVII into the FULL version....They left out so many parts

Well ya no- I finished FF7 wanting MORE MORE MORE I mean I became so obsessed with cloud and they gang I was gonna buy the Buster Sword! SO this crisis core will keep me occupied with psp. I can watch advent children. I can play on the go with before crisis, and I can play this! Sure it may be a lot but I am obsessed with this storyline and everyone says it- this final fantasy is the heart of the series and deserves so much. Besides I like vincent!

I am so so so addicted to FFVII its unreal, but i don't play many action games. Love RPGs due to the immersion in the story. Who here can't say they didn't get so involved with the story that they shook in fear at jenova's theme, ot the scary music that played when sephiroth burned down the manor in clouds home town! i've got the soundtrack and when that first note sounds i get goosebumps all over|!!! i hope the new film and games make me feel the same way, to some degree, if they come to the uk.... sniff

i think its more square is kicking around a bunch of new ideas, i mean there have been 12 games in the past that had the same gameplay (give or take a minor detail or two)... but lately it seems theyre taking past games and making sequels with significant gameplay changes to the traditional final fantasy series. x2 for example was nonlinear, and 12 although it isnt a sequel, does destroy the idea of random battles... square is playing around with a bunch of ideas to find a new unique way to keep the ff series alive-- im sure this new ff7 game will just be a "labrat" parsay, to portray how society accepts the new styles it will have in it. and what better game to make another sequel of than ff7? it was the most popular game of the series and to make a sequel from another game wouldnt promise the same profits/purchases.

Eh, it's got potential. But I think it was better to leave Vincent a mystery. It kills the coolness of the dark and sarene character if you tell his past.

I have a question. On Dirge of cerberus can you Play as cloud? Because I found a Image of cloud form Dirge of Cerberus, He was holding a gun with the buster sword on his back. Hopefully he can use the buster sword.

I say we play their spinoff first and hope it won't be the silly direction of FFX-2. After we play/watch whatever FF7-based item is next, we'll know if Square wants to make a legitament sequel or not.

Personally, I can't wait for this game to come out. Vincent is my favourite Final Fantasy character and Final Fantasy VII was my favourite of the Final Fantasy games. However, I am more excited about Final Fantasy: Advent Children being released.

It would be good if you could play as Cloud and/or Vincent.

I think its strange that people think this is a bad move for Square Enix, i mean...it won't be an RPG but give it a chance! I always Liked Final Fantasy VII For its story line...aaaaaand the fact that it was an RPG...but mainly cause of the story line of it all! =)

I also don't think they crossed the line by making a movie, and a game continuations..@[email protected] of it a 3 part movie...like "Back to the Future"..only 2 of the movies are games...

The compilation is probably good but i'm sure it will not be as good as the original final fantasy, y would prefer to see a remake of FFVII for PSP and FFVIII and IX too!

I think DC looks like it will have substance, i realy don`t think it will be another money spinning idea. Nomura said that because a lot of FFVII`s original fans have grown up, he wanted to make a game that appeals to them.

So Square announced another FF7 title, dirge of Cerberus, which stars Vincent, and that's pretty much all we know about this.
It's part of "Compilation of Final Fantasy VII", along with Before Crises and Advent Children.
I forgot what this means. Will they put it all into one box and sell it to people? I'd like that.

I am still torn between "Do we really need even more FF7 games, can't we have something fresh and new instead?" and "Whhhhaahhhh it's Vincent, and he looks sexy!!!"

I'm not going to bother reading the whole thread so I'll just give what I know about it. The game is going to take place after AC so watch the darned movie before you play this. Second, it's going to be a shooter, probably 3rd person. Looks real good, if you ask me. As for SE miling the FF7 for all it's worth, they really are just giving the fans what they want, more of the game they love. Speaking of which people are expecting a FF7 remake for the PS3, which, needless to say, will be frickin sweet!

In a recent interview Nomura has stated that development of DC is in it`s closing stages and it should go on sale around winter, this year. Although it could be set back to March although it`s a lot sooner than expected.

Very true Ndi. Although in Japan it has been covered in many magazines, Famitsu for instance. But i think it`s time that some magazines in the USA and Europe should report on it.

I`m actualy pretty pretty underwhelmed about the interest in "theories" about FFVII: DC around here. But yes, i think it looks like Zack a lot but i`d say it`s probably a clone or some sort of interpretation.

I think that any of these sequels can be ignored, and the original is all you need. Personally I think it's all in the money: if they release a PSP only game they can get more people to buy a PSP, or a cell phone for Before Crisis. Shit, why not just release them all on PS2 or 3? They probably have signed a deal with Sony "Hey, we can get the kids to buy a PSP because they are all ff addicts, give us a share of the profits." Or a deal with Virgin Mobile "Hey, we can get kids to buy a cell phone because they are ff addicts, give us a share or the profits." What about those of us who don't have the money for a psp or a cell? And as for this one, if it's a shooter there is NO way I'm getting it just because it's THE COMPILATION OF FF7. If it's an RPG, I'll think about it. I am a fan of Vincent, so we'll see.

hmm well yeah i guess you are right, im looking forward to the PSP release, gunna get it for sure, play it on my bros psp. I want all the classic ones, but I dunno where to find em well, i dunno if you already know of these, but you can get emulated versions of the games, they are only about 10mb each or something, and you can save your data and everything. im buying FFX-2 for xmas, and cant be bothered with 9, tbh it doesnt look very good, im sure someone will kick my ass for saying that though :P

IX is probably this sites least favourite and its mine too. But IX is still a very good game.
As for X-2, its pretty good aswell, but not as good as X.
Now I'm gonna give you some very useful advice..... Buy the official walkthrough guide. I played it without it, and to be honest, it was one of the worst games i've ever played. But with it, its a very good game

Yep thats right. Dirge Of Cerebus: FFVII, is online multiplayer, meaning its the next game POL (the system that hosts FFXI) will feature. Makes me happy that i bought FFXI for PS2 and not PC :P

ok... i got this game a few days ago, the story is alil confusing, like they changing the whole ff7 story to fit the game but whatever. multiplayer WAS cut out of the NA release........... the gmae is pretty solid tho, and extrmely fun and adictive, just wish it had multiplayer.

no, they didnt miss up the original story, infact this is a GOOD eddicion to it, something was missin...no , they couldve put it in the original FF7 but not as an action, but as the r.p.G game, but remember, its Vincent story not cloud, and vincent was a side character in the original game.
