Hey everyone! I now have available for you all, "I See Fire" and "Beyond the Forest" in 24/48 FLAC 7.1 surround sound straight from the DTS-HD MA 7.1 encode on the Blu-Ray!

Just FYI, there will be no makeshift instrumental version of "I See Fire" this time around because the vocals are in every channel pretty solid and not just echoes. The 7.1 mix is pretty good though considering that there's just a guitar, vocals, and a violin...

Basically, the only changes from the album versions of the two songs "I See Fire" and "Beyond the Forest" are some volume differences in the vocals, and a 5 second musical intro to "Beyond the Forest". "I See Fire" actually sounds quite different in a pleasing way if you listen to it on a surround sound system. The vocals are more natural and brought out and the harmonized vocals are put more toward the back of the mix.

I have also included links to stereo versions in both FLAC lossless and 320kbps MP3 for those of you who want it on your iPhone or just don't have a 5.1 or 7.1 surround system. I have tweaked the stereo versions to match the volumes on the soundtrack version of the songs so you can implement them into the official soundtrack without huge volume changes and just replace the original album pieces!

Enjoy!

Thanks so much, JCH! I'm a big fan of your work going back to the first Hobbit film, and I'm always looking forward to whatever you might have for us.

Thanks, is the 7.1 mix better than the AUJ one (none of that awful "blurring" effect?)?

@Feleel Yes! The 7.1 mix is much better done on this one. If I took all 8 channels and mixed it down to 2 it doesn't have that tinny sound to it anymore! You can watch the film in stereo and it sound perfectly normal now. I'm not sure why the tinny sound even was in the first film (obviously it's because of a delay issue but I mean I'm not sure why they let it through to home video). Part of the sound designer's job is to listen to your mix on multiple systems to make sure it sounds good on ANY sound system.

Unfortunately, the 7.1 mix is more heavy in the surrounds so it will be harder to pull out any music from this mix. That's why I can't get an instrumental version of "I See Fire", the mix is much more immersive.
